How To Take Down The Tundra’S Inside Seat Belt Panel?

To remove a seatbelt from a Toyota Tundra, use a fork tool to remove the interior mid-panels and slide them back in the trim before reinstalling. When removing a panel locked in with plastic clips, treat it like a bandaid and rip it off quickly. The clips stay locked into the trim pieces better when removed quickly.

For a double Cab model, secure the child restraint system using a seat belt or lower anchors. Remove the head restraints of the center and left rear seats. Failure to do so will prevent the seat belt from operating properly.

If you need to remove your seat belt retractor or pre-tensioner, follow this step-by-step video. If your car has been in an accident, we can repair your seat belt.

To release the rear center seatbelt, pull the boot free from one side and compress it as small as possible. Thread a wire coat hanger through the speaker wire and pull it. Disconnect the battery, remove the “oh sh*t” handle, unbolt the seat belt anchor near the floor, pull up the step trim, and half pull off the panels.

Remove the bolt and front seat outer belt floor anchor. Remove the quarter trim and remove the belt hole cover. Remove the scuff plates (a couple screws) front and rear, then pull them out towards the center of the truck.

In a 1999 4Runner SR5 Auto – 4WD swapped, take a razor blade and carefully pop the SRS badge off, remove the 10mm bolt underneath it, and pull the plastic C pillar panel off.

  • Do you have to disconnect the battery before you undo the airbag clip on the seat belt? I have to replace the seat belt height adjuster on the passenger side of my 2014 Sequoia. I bought an OEM part and found you on you tube. I am not sure if I need to even mess with the air bag plug. I think I just need to pop off the panels and unbolt the seat belt and fed it into the new seat belt height adjustor. I think…any advice?

  • I took the rear seat out of my 2019 Toyota Hiace Crew (without disconnecting the battery). I have a dash warning “airbag system malfunction”. Is there a way to “dongle” or short the seat belt sensor harness (only to the rear seat). I believe I have to get toyota to clear the codes of the malfunction. I want the seat permanently out or at least the option to have it out for camping AND have my front airbags working.

  • 2008 Camry. Leaving a comment in case anyone needs it. First of all, thank you for this article! It saved me a lot of trouble. I wasn’t able to get the top to dislocate like yours. I think that’s a difference in the manufacturing/design. However, after 15 minutes of finagling, I was able to get the sides loose enough I could shine a flashlight in and see the seatbelt, grab it with my needle-nose pliers, and pull it down. One pull was enough to unfold it. The casing doesn’t fit back as tightly as before, but I DON’T CARE. Thank you again.

  • Thank you so, so much for this article. Knowing where the hooks were was absolutely key. To note, for anyone else, my belt was so stuck, I couldn’t even untwist it with needle-nosers until I applied some graphite lube: but that did the trick! The repair was very quick, nevertheless. You have done the world a service.

  • Thank you for making this article. I fixed it in about 10 minutes on my 2007 Camry XLE. I do want to add that you should remove the bottom panel (that touches the carpet) first. Start on the left side of it where you’ll find a rubber trim. Once the bottom trim comes out it’s much easier to remove the top. The top snaps to the lower piece and there is a snap at the top of it.
