Is hair bleach damage reversible?

Porous hair is damaged by heat, causing it to dry out and need moisture. Sensitised hair, on the other hand, is damaged by internal structure, causing it to become brittle and snapping. Bleach can cause irreversible damage, which can be removed. It is not possible to go from black to blonde hair in one sitting, as it is almost impossible. Hairdressers usually advise doing it in stages, and the maximum number of times you can bleach your hair in one session is always one. It is nearly impossible to achieve a safe transition from black to white or blonde safely with one bleaching session.

Can you fix badly bleached hair?

After a bleaching disaster, it is recommended to dye your hair a darker colour to resolve the issue. This is especially beneficial if your hair was initially dark and has turned orange, yellow, or green. Going back to your natural dark hair colour is better than hiding it under a hat for weeks. It is recommended to go to a salon to understand the complexities of dyeing bleached hair, as bleaching strips it of its natural pigments, causing it to react differently to dye.

Dye may come out darker than expected, and you may need to use a protein filler. Consult your stylist to choose the right color and products for you. If using an at-home kit, ensure you are happy with the color and read the instructions carefully.

How do you rehydrate damaged bleached hair?

Hair cuticle rebuilding can be achieved using various products to restore gloss and shine. Olive oil, coconut oil, argan oil, almond oil, DIY hair masks, rice water rinse, and heat styling are some options to help hydrate hair after bleaching. It is important to avoid heat styling as it can further dry hair. Hair lightening products often contain bleach, which is a simple and fast method to remove pigment from hair strands. However, bleach breaks apart hair proteins, leaving hair strands lighter and weaker after washing. To maintain hair health, use oils, hair masks, and conditioners, and avoid heat styling.

How long does it take hair to recover from bleach damage?

Bleach-damaged hair can take up to two weeks to heal, depending on the severity of the damage. If the damage is severe, it may require a month of care before the hair starts to feel smooth and shiny again. While bleaching hair can be a beautiful and healthy option, it requires extra care to maintain its appearance. If you’re considering going blonde, it’s essential to increase your hair health routine and seek professional help if possible. Bleaching is an intensive process that can be difficult to manage, so it’s best to leave it to professionals for better results and advice on managing the damage.

How do I get my bleached hair back in good condition?

Bleached hair can look healthy, silky, and shiny by regular shampooing and conditioning, using a leave-in conditioner for styling, keeping heated styling to a minimum, and using Restore and Shine Hair Masque every week to maximize moisture. A leave-in conditioner spray can be applied between washes to maintain hair’s moisture balance. Bleaching hair opens up the Cuticle, the outer layer of the hair, which is responsible for protecting the inner layer and retaining moisture.

This disrupts the Cuticle and its moisture balance, causing the hair to look dry and dull. To improve hair health and shine, it is essential to address the moisture levels in the hair by using products like Restore and Shine Hair Masque, Restore and Shine Hair Masque, and leave-in conditioner spray. By doing so, bleached hair can look healthier, silkier, and more shiny.

How to restore your hair after bleaching it?

Bleach damage to hair can be repaired by using heat protectant, applying a restorative hair bond treatment, following proper brushing protocols, going for regular trims, and treating your tresses to high-quality products. While bleaching can help achieve ideal blonde hair shades or create a blank canvas for other vibrant hues, over time, bleach damage can leave your blonde hair dry and dull. To restore your hair’s health with living proof, follow these steps: use heat protectant, apply a restorative hair bond treatment, follow proper brushing protocols, go for regular trims, and treat your tresses to high-quality products.

  • It is beyond painful when someone else destroys your hair. I had waist length thick vergin hair. I have red hair. And the lady suggested I have a Henna treatment. Long story short. It turned my hair green. She said no problem I’ll just put a bleach pack on your hair and it will remove the green. Needless to say it fried my long hair into what looked like wet cotton. When she started blowing it out it snapped off. I walked out of that Salon with a short pixie cut. This happened to me when I was 18 years old. And it was so traumatic that I taught myself how to do everything related to my hair, myself. Now the only time I go into a Salon is to get a trim.

  • All excellent tips (guy who’s super enthusiastic about his own long hair here) May I also recommend putting a cheap shower cap over the hair mask and either using a heated cap or a warm towel over the top. Helps it really, really work. I also use olaplex 3 maybe once or twice a month, just to keep everything in tip top shape.

  • Unbelievable that a salon would A) ruin your beautiful hair and the B) laugh at it! 🤦🏻‍♀️ They should be shut down! 🤬 Disgusting! Your hair is so beautiful! 🥰 I’m so glad you learned so much from such an awful experience, and now your sharing that knowledge! Such an amazing thing to do! 🥰 You are truly just amazing! ❤

  • I used to have super long hair (below my bum) and I made an impulsive decision to bleach it in quarantine. Then kept bleaching for a year. Half of my hair fell off one day after overlapping old bleached sections with new bleached sections. I completely stopped bleaching after that tragic incident and now it’s been 1.5 years so I have shoulder length virgin hair again and whatever remains from the previous bleaching applications below that.. in comparison to the bleached parts, virgin hair feels soooo much softer and thicker and dries immediately after a shower when the bleached hair needs like 8 hours. I don’t think I’ll never bleach my hair again after this, it was super traumatising and for a whole year I was in fear that I’d lose my all of my hair… As whatever still remained was slowly falling off after every shower and brushing. I think this is something that people who bleach their hair (especially for the first time) should be aware of as hair loss is extremely common. And from my experience, you can’t bring that back to life no matter what you do (I did everything you mentioned on the article). I’ve just waited until it grew out.

  • This really inspires me. I’ve always had long thick hair all of my life. I’ve been blonde for around 7 years now and have been on the verge of a mental breakdown from my hair loss after getting my top roots done followed by the underneath a few weeks later.. I think it was a combination of that and one evening of using a hair dryer which certainly didn’t help my already compromised hair. You’re hair looks great I really hope I can formulate similar results by continuing to take the steps! I can’t believe those hairstylists said that to you.. I swear, I fel like sometimes these people are out to get you & your hair 😭

  • I had a bad experience with a hair stylist. I asked for a dark brown and she gave me black. Like jet black hair. I was not happy and when I asked if we could go lighter she was rude and didn’t answer me for months. My now hair stylist is great and does a wonderful job of getting me back to dirty blonde. She walks me through everything and makes me feel comfortable.

  • I’ve dyed my hair pink for over a year now, I love it. I always get compliments on it and it makes me feel pretty. I know you shouldn’t attach value to hair, but I feel special with it. That being said the damage the bleach causes is starting to take its toll. I’m gonna give myself a year following your tips.

  • I’ve been trying to grow my hair back for months now after a hairdresser at my fave salon gave me the WORST haircut I have ever had 🙁 absolutely horrendous… never going back. I feel like my hair is screwed now so here I am looking for EVERY tip I can! Thank you for this article! It was extremely helpful and it’s relieving seeing your transformation to remind me that I am not completely screwed over😅

  • An excellent line of products are made by John Friedas, my own head is shaved, but I used the sealing and anti frizz on my super white dog and even wool sweaters. It gives an excellent texture and in Montréal during winter it protected my dog from that toxic gray slush and salt…which can actually cause them cancer…Easily. Hoping your latest article is good news, I’m actually a scaredy cat 🙀 There are also excellent products for grooming horses… Honest! Your mane will be show quality 😁

  • Thank you so much! I’m gonna do what you said! Feel relieved it’s savable! My mum told me to brush from the bottom! So true! Also, what do you think about coconut oil? My sisters swears by it. You know you said about letting it dry naturally, mine was only bleached the other day, and when I’ve washed it, the most fragile bit (at the back) feels so weak and soft and sticky almost that I want to hair dry it just so it isn’t so vulnerable, and when I’ve left it to air dry it just seems to stay wet 😢 do I just wait longer? I’ve gone from really long thick black hair (box dyed for years) to my natural auburn colour, bleaching was the only way, and I just, like you, don’t want to lose the lovely long shiny hair!! I’ll defo get the hair mask, it’s a 10 and a shampoo brush when I get paid! 🥰

  • I had long bleached highlighted hair and the same thing happened to me, honestly caught the hair dresser trying to add bleach to all of my hair instead of my roots, she done this so many times to me, I ran out of the hair dressers so upset, I took a breath and went back in I was so frustrated the same girl kept trying to fry my hair off. I asked her to have a look at my hair it feels like it’s getting really damaged can she wash it out. And she looked at me and said can’t you do it yourself? What the he’ll type of response is that!!!!! I refused to pay… now my hair is so short I’m tryna grow it back, it’s been 3 years it such a slow journey. How long did it take you to grow your hair back?

  • Thank you for this… loved it💗💗💗 Only thing is the silk pillow case, just in case you didn’t know… please use a vegan silk/satin pillowcase because the way they boil those beautiful silkworms alive so that they are forced to open their cocoons (where they get the silk) is so horrendous and such an immense amount of suffering until they die, is really not worth it. I certainly could not contribute to that after I saw it. They are so sensitive and close their cocoons when frightened. Just wanted you to know in case you didn’t 🥲

  • My hair looks like your after 😢 I decided a month ago that I’m done with bleach because the last time I bleached it, about 6 weeks ago, they made me sign a piece of paper saying I won’t come after them if my hair breaks. I SHOULD HAVE WALKED THEN but I didn’t and they broke the hell out of my hair. Starting my journey now.

  • My hair was really fried, all the products I used ment more washing which made the problem worse. I got kinami7 hair butter which kept my hair soft and the ends didn’t frizz or get crunchy. I just reapplied each night to my ends and by morning they didn’t get crunchy or tangled. No silk pillow case, cool air to dry because when it was wet it was stringy, no braids because that pulls the hair that is weak.

  • My hair is half a thick as it used to be and I’ve only been blonde 2 years I invested in fanola fiber fix bonder mask and the botugen mask aphogee two step protein treatment also biotin supplements my hair is starting to look better I’ve been trimming it every time I do my roots and I’m ahead of the breakage but think all of products have helped me stay blonde thanks for your suggestions on hair care products think I’ll get its a 10 leave in

  • hi!! i’m going through a similar situation. my last salon visit completely fried my hair and it’s about half as thick as it used to be ): i’m wondering if you cut it short after that one picture of your damaged hair was taken? or did you just nourish it back to health? i’m really trying to get long blonde healthy hair but i think the thinning might be bad enough to the point where i need to just cut off all damage and start again

  • I went from brunette to blond and I looove the color but hate the damage. I used to just use shampoo and conditioner, then brush my hair, blow dry it and I’m done. Now I use, normal shampoo, purple shampoo, purple conditioner, hydrating mask, smoothing cream, leave in conditioner and detangler and i still can’t brush it. I lost a lot of hair too from trying to brush through it and now it feels like I have half my hair left. It’s so frustrating! Anyway. I think I didn’t leave the mask on for long enough (just 15mins) so I’ll try to leave it on for longer. And will try some of the other techniques.

  • Girl we share the same experience, I cried hysterically because my hair was falling out like on chemo after a bleaching in a salon😩😩My hair was thin but I had a lot of it and it was all my pride before this accident😩7 years later they are finally saved and regrowed but this experience learned me a sad lesson😞

  • i have almost 3 feet of super healthy hair – here’s what i do. it’s never touched heat tools or dye, EVER. not even once. I wash it every other day, deep condition it every time. blow dry only the roots if my head is cold, and let the rest air dry. it doesn’t tangle easily, so i only brush it after showers when it’s damp and very conditioned. wear it down mostly and sleep with it down. never tried protective hairstyles/silk pillowcases. if you have the discipline to never curl/straighten it you will have the HEALTHIEST HAIR.

  • People can have healthy hair even if it’s bleached blonde. They need to use hair masks, leave in conditioner spray, k18 and/or Olaplex. Always use heat protection spray when using heat tools. Use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Use a microfiber towel, sleep on a silk or satin pillow case. Only use cloth scrunchies and not the tight hair ties. Use swim shampoo to remove chlorine. Regular shampoo doesn’t remove it from hair. Get routine hair cuts. I’m a licensed cosmetologist. Also her hair is gorgeous!!! 😍

  • I’m honestly so mentally connected with my hair. My hair before is my hair in my pfp. Went to a salon yesterday and now my hair are fried, white and my bangs are yellow and i was so sad and desperate that icutted it off to my shoulders and all day i felt like vomiting from sadness. Now i will have to deal with it somehow until i change colour

  • My hair is a bit longer than yours. I never use hair driers period.Only schampoo without sulphates. Of course brush from ends, otherwise you compact any tangles. Washing twice a week is enough for long hair. Also use John Frida silicone drops for ends after every wash, hair doesn’t tangle as bad if you do. And cut ends often to prevent split ends.

  • Thanks for an encouraging article…I’ve been doing my best for nearly a year now to heal my damaged hair & i also do most of what you’ve done. My curls & volume are FINALLY coming back. Altho i do feel like my hair will never get long again, your article has helped me realize, i need to keep being patient & keep pampering it !! Thank you !!

  • Your hair looks INCREDIBLE now!!! I have hope for myself now lol. One question- after that pic from before where it was super damaged, did you have to cut all the damaged/split ends off? Or did you just start healing it as best you could and maybe give little trims along the way? Asking because I have hair down to my mid-back that a hair salon recently fried- the popular consensus is if I want it healthy I have to cut all the damage off or it’ll just keep splitting and getting worse, which is horrifying to me because I’d have to cut an entire foot off up to my shoulders then, and I’ve tried to get it that long for years.

  • So glad I saw your article bc I was having a bad day for same reasons, feeling like it’s doomed! Now I have hope again. One question – hope you see this, I have curly hair so if I use the shampoo brush you think it’ll be okay? For shampoo? Also I am curious why you should wash out rosemary oil… if its not pure like the brand you suggested?

  • soon as you recommended that hair mask, i paused the article, looked it up, and ordered it within 5 mins LMAO i’ve been religiously oiling my hair before i wash it EVERYTIME without fail for literally YEARS and never knew that it only helped retain moisture!!!! feel like a muppet now lol but thankyou thankyou

  • your hair looks so good, but i hope you’re deep cleansing in between cause you use a hell load of silicones and poly fatty oils which I’d say it’s like the make-up of the hair, you’re not seeing your natural hair, but a covered version of it! Also, none of these products are valid for Curly Method (if anyone was wondering). Again, you can definitely have beautiful hair and minimize breakage with silicones, but don’t let them build up or it’ll fire back!!

  • So after bleaching my hair, I lost at least 50% of it – so it’s very thin now. My understanding and experience since has been that the hair follicles died off and can never come back as stylists have said. So I will always have thin hair (whereas it used to be extremely thick). Yours looks fuller again – did your thickness come back too?

  • I bleached my hair three times the last 2 months. The third time just today. For the first two I used Garnier and it was nice. It didn’t break my hair. It was still smooth. But it didn’t give me the color I wanted. So, I switched to a different brand that I have used years ago (It went well that time) but this time I used aluminium foil to cover my hair. After few minutes I heard hissing sound and then I touched the foil 😢 it was so hot. I took it off but I only washed my hair 20 minutes after that. When washing, my hair felt smooth, it didn’t show any issue. But when it’s dry 😭 my hair started to break. I was going to dye it pastel colors by the end of September but I don’t know if it’s wise to do it. Do you think oiling my hair for the next two weeks will make it ready for a hairdye? Anyone has the same experience? (I only bleached the bottom half of my hair, I don’t really want to chop it off though)

  • Beef tallow hair & body butter is the best as it has been used for thousands of years, it’s inexpensive, you can make the body & hair butter yourself, and it has a unique blend of vitamins, mins, proteins, and antioxidants you won’t find in anything else, AND it’s far better than any hair care or face care products that can cause endocrine issues and essentially poison your skin & hair with filler products. Trust me.

  • If my hair air dried as nice as yours, I wouldn’t use heat either. Mine takes hours to dry naturally and then is totally unruly. I blow dry on low heat and that works for me really well. And YES to silk pillowcase. I tried a satin one at first to save money, but my face stuck to it all night. Switched to silk and no problem now.

  • I have been trying to go blonde for a long time no one does it right I’ve been over processed I brought my hair back and now everytime a stylist puts on any highlight it looks damaged now I just want to repair and my question is I need to balance it out it has dark lowlights n bleach on the front do you think I should just put on a brunette or don’t do anything until I can go blonde any help I’d love and for your information unite mask is wonderful

  • I got my hair bleached and then dyed to purple on half of my head and I wan to go blonde now and I know my natural hair on one side will handle it but I don’t know about the other side, any tips? Should I even do it? (My hair is dark brown, its took 2 bleach rounds to go to full blond on that one side)

  • I don’t used heat on my hair unless I dye my hair 3x a year only. So drying my hair is only air drying only. It’s saved my hair. Also, I braid my hair at night ( lower pony tail only ). If I do it higher it just going to annoy me and my scalp. Plus comb my hair with wide tooth comb from the bottom up so my hair is safe.

  • My long-time stylist damaged my hair in July 2023. She has been my stylist since I was in 10th grade and I have always had the same thing done every 4 months a relaxer touch up and trim, and I would trim my own hair in between usually 8 weeks after each visit. Now back in July I went in for my regular relaxer touch-up and trim, and for some reason, she pulled the relaxer through the full length of my hair, and when she was done she had cut my hair about 4-5 inches instead of the normal half-inch trim. I didn’t notice until I got home that my hair was damaged and thin. I went in with thick healthy waist-length hair and left with it mid-back and damaged, fast forward to today and my hair is now shoulder length and damaged, I cut as much as I could myself without sacrificing all of my length. I have done weekly protein using Aphoghee and Olaplex followed by a moisturizing deep conditioner. How long did it take you to recover from the damage? I am 7 months post damage, and I the only time I use heat is every four months at the salon. It was so heartbreaking, as I have trusted this woman for years, and she has always been honest and helpful when it came to my hair. I have canceled all my future appointments and will never set foot in a salon even for a trim. Please ladies tell me how long did it take to get back to healthy hair? I really do not want to cut my hair into a bob, it took 3-4 years to grow my hair out from my last short cut, and I loved my long hair. Why would my stylist do this to me?

  • Hiii :), I am very happy to see your hair changes, do you recommend sleeping with heatless curls? I do it every night to give my hair shape after the damage it has suffered but I don’t know if it hurts my hair. I have been thinking about darkening my hair so I don’t bleach it again and let it recover, or do you think that could damage it more? thank youuu

  • I recently starting doing these things and started also go to a high end saloon. I get highlights about every 2.5-3.5 months, I went the last time end of august and got my next apppointmet 19.dec. Also started using all Olaplex and bought a silk pillowcase etc. Oh and yeh i do the same before bed, I put some olaplex oil in the ends and put it in a loos bun and secure it with a crocodile clip…huge difference.

  • I highly recommend investing in a good quality leave in conditioner too! R+Co has an amazing one called sun catcher. Mind you, this brand is pretty pricy. But they have a large variety of products (like over 200 products on their website). I don’t use their most expensive line. But I love love love their products, and a little dime size is more than enough! I ended up getting a free sample size of Sun Catcher, which is about 1oz, and it’s not even halfway gone, and I got it about three months ago. I pretty much use it every day.

  • Hii great tips. I wonder what was your previous hair color. Because mine was level 4 and now I wanna get it to level 8, medium blonde. I just don’t know if that’d be so hard on my hair. Some people have really healthy looking blondes but they usually don’t start from a dark hair color like mine so I’m hesitant

  • Hi one thing to say has been amazing is solgar skin hair and nails vitamins. I noticed a difference big time! I’m in process of sorting my frazzled hair.. I thought it was falling out but now I realise how the bleach has ruined it even though I’ve only bleached it once last year and had braids before that. Thanks for the tips I am determined to get my hair healthy again! 🥰

  • The only way air drying can cause any damage is if you wash your hair every day before you go to bed and your hair is wet for hours and hours and days upon days on end. Then Maybe there is hydro fatigue. It is for some people to feel better about themselves for heat styling. I’ll bet money if you take a group of people heat styling and another with air drying the heat stylers hair will be far more busted. They don’t tell you the whole story when they make these claims.

  • I am trying to grow back my hair for about 8 years now. But still short and thin hair. I also do everything she says in the article and i take multiple hairpills everyday. My lenghts are broken and they wont grow any longer than above my shoulders. And it is so thin you can look through it. I only lighten my roots every 2 or 3 months. I dont understand what is going wrong.

  • I have been caring for my hair at home for years: treatment, cuts and dye jobs at home. I detest hair salons with passion. Save once, I never had a good cut. Strand and allergy tests were never offered. I went in for a dye job so I can be a ginger bottle girl and ended up with red highlights in my black natural hair. Just a waste of money.

  • Yes! The bruising from the bottom up is great. My sister has super think hair and I’m always telling her to brush from the bottom. If you grab hair and hold it, brush the bottom portion, it doesn’t pull at your scalp and removes all the hairs we lose anyway. Then just make your way up. Great tip if you have a tender scalp and for kids too!

  • My stylist freaking FRIED my hair. She didn’t tell me; sent me out of the salon with wet hair loaded with ‘an expensive mask’ like she was doing me a favor. My hair literally was like angel hair pasta. Stretchy and rubbery and just mush. I literally took her a bag full of my hair. She still didn’t acknowledge she fried my hair. It was so disappointing as I have had such strong healthy hair. Letting it grow out and trimming as I can.

  • I grew out my hair just fine, I got rid of heat and dyeing, I got regular cuts. I still have some 5/6cm left of bleach at the ends but that will get cut off too, someday. Everything just needs time. My hair was really dry and damaged and nothing would repair it. I am never gonna touch hair dye or bleach ever again, it’s not worth it. Healthy hair is the best.

  • Few tips…instead of bleach use a Hi Lift color. Use pure oils…jojoba, argan, avocado oils 100% organic no silicones. Reduce heat styling…use rollers instead of heat. Deep condition hair once a week. Use lukewarm water to shampoo. Shampoo the correct way…gently massage the scalp focusing on the scalp area and don’t manipulate the midshaft/ends just let the shampoo rinse through it gently. Think of baby hair and how beautiful and healthy it is. The less stuff you do to your hair the more shiny silky and healthy it will be. Bottom line…Don’t abuse it or you will lose it!

  • I used to get highlights every month, wash my hair every day and dry and style it every day. I couldn’t grow my hair at all, my bangs never grew past the tip of my nose. I started lightening every few months, stopped using straighteners, only dry my hair with a hair dryer when I have to go out for an event, only wash it every 3 to 4 days. I couldn’t believe the results. My hair grew so much ❤

  • Good tips there, however the “argan oils” she recommended contain a very small percentage of argan oil if you look at the ingredients list – mostly cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone, which are silicones and basically just smooth the hair. Most pharmacies should have pure or near 100% argan oil available.

  • Omg!!! I have been wondering and wondering why my hair just won’t grow any longer and while perusal this a giant 💡 appeared above my head! Makes so much sense when described this way. I have this article saved (along with about 12 of yours!) and I will be perusal it to keep myself reminded… Thank you Sylvia!! I’m living for your articles rn!

  • Im listening to you lady i just bleached my hair I somehow got it to a few tones lighter than a normal person would normally be able to but that’s because I’ve been taking care of my dark hair my whole life it’s not damaged now but it’s just like slightly dyer than it used to be however, that’s amazing. That’s good news but I’m gonna listen to everything you say because you have the perfect hair. 😍

  • I got my hair permed yesterday and the chemicals fried up, burnt and broke off my hair like crazy. Lesson learned. Not going to mess with my natural beautiful hair ever again. Hair dresser appointment for Friday has been made with a professional so she can cut it off and give me a smaller cut so I can restart my hair. Thanks to my kids telling me “mom it’s hair don’t worry it will regrow. Maybe it’s time for a new cut. Change is always good”. That really helped me feel so much better.

  • I just started using some great products by Redken. A hair bonding concentrate, hair bonding shampoo and conditioner. Wow. Remarkable products!!!! It made my hair go from super dry and brittle to looking much healthier. I know I still have to be careful but right now I’m rejoicing that it’s not all coming out. I highly recommend it to everyone!

  • Whenever I take a break from hair dye and bleach I like to take a break that’s at least as long as the duration of when I have it died. I have been letting my hair rest for 2 years now and was thinking of dying again this year and wanted to look for ways how to improve it even more before that. My hair doesn’t have severe damage it’s mostly just at the tips, perusal the article I felt very relieved to hear that I have been doing some things correctly and will invest in a better oil and cream 😊

  • I cut my hair into a bob when I was 13, and started bleaching it myself 🥲 back and forth from black to blonde with Walmart dyes like every 2 months, ever since then my hair has never been passed my clavicle. Now that I’m almost 29, about 6 months ago I quit using everything, heat and extensions lol finally leaving it alone to let it grow back down to my tailbone lol

  • Just got a few inches taken off of my hair bc the ends were the most broken part of my hair and it looks so much better. I’ve been struggling with breakage as a platinum and i used to head style my hair a lot and would blow dry from super wet bc my hair is wavy so i wanted to get it straight but I’ve been trying to heat style less and use better products… so hopefully in 6 months or so I’ll have a bit more length and healthier hair 😂😂😂

  • All I have to say is I’m so thankful to hear about so much advice around the internet. I just want to say while perusal this, to all perusal or just here. ALL of y’all are beautiful people. If you feel like your not beautiful that is a lie, and why put yourself on their standards. Be different than others, be YOU. That’s what makes you special and don’t let them take your uniqueness away. God made all y’all beautiful. Keep trying to keep your head up. We’re all Kings and queens. 👑❤💎

  • Have you tried The ApHogee line? I really would like to try this line out….. please do a tutorial on the ApHogee line your advice, opinion means a lot. Your are an amazing, honest and love how you teach not just tslk. You are appreciated very much by many of my friends and family out here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada ❣️😘

  • A hair stylist literally fried my hair, it’s mush. She tried to play it off by acting normal and she started from roots and brushed down taking literally half of my hair with her. I’m completely devastated. I had long beautiful hair and I’m so depressed. It’s been 7 weeks and I’m still depressed. I started using olaplex 3 and the hair perfector. My identity is reflective of my long Latin hair and I’m devastated, I have half my hair left and it’s dead.

  • Thank you. perusal your article as I have gone from brown hair to blonde as I’m going gray and wanting to blend it in now. In lockdown, I’ve bleached and box dye blonde and now starting to grow it long again . my hair did start to go dry on the ends I’m using oils. perusal your articles are helping. I look forward to your next articles.

  • I completely fried my long hair 3 years ago. Went from platinum to a 3N over the whole head. Hated it and bleached it back to platinum over the course of 4 days. Olaplex couldn’t even help me. The breakage was uncontrollable. Fast forward to a year ago my hair was healthy again. No bleach or color for 2 years only to realize my hair was growing in white. With a few darker hair here and there, I’d like the tone different though. Do I have to bleach to change the tone or can you tone grey/white hair? Your argan oil for blondes just links to Macy’s FYI

  • The number one thing you can do to heal your hair is to quit the heat styling. There are plenty of ways you can style without heat. I usually braid my hair in two braids and let it air dry. When I take out the braids I get lovely waves. 🥰 you can also use foam rollers or rag curlers. I have a root color and bleached highlights on mid-back long hair, and since I quit heat-styling my hair looks gorgeous. I went 5 months before I got more highlights and my stylist said I didn’t even need a haircut. She showed me the back of my hair and you could still see the haircut was intact from 6 months ago no breakage. I use Lanza’s Healing Oil on my hair and I love it.

  • I went to a hair dresser and told her to test my hair she told me oh no need for that you got lots of hair and is very healthy. Big mistake, i took her word for it and went ahead and did for the first time a suppose spiral which it never happened and my hair started to fall off in chunks as soon as she rinse my hair . I have lost 50% of my hair 🥺😫

  • Hi Silvia, I have been following you since you first started your website and I have been a big fan of yours! I was in SF but moved back to my home state after Covid. Well anyway, I have a question for you. I am trying to add light honey brown low lights to some platinum extensions. I tried 7 N but it’s too grey. What would you suggest? I was considering 9 NG or 9 NGV Madison Reed, what do you suggest and what have you used to color your extensions? Thank you for helping me! I know that you you are super sweet and probably super busy with your new precious little baby! She is so beautiful, by the way!!! Congratulations!!!❤️

  • Love being a blonde hated that dried out fried scarecrow hair I used to have. For years I used to fight against my natural curls and blow dry and flat iron them 😢. Until 2 years ago…………………..Today I’m no longer blow drying from wet to completely dry the minute I step out of the shower. Today I let my hair air dry until it’s about. 70-80% dry. I have kicked that flat iron out to the curb and finally embraced my natural curls. My hair has grown so long and I haven’t a concern about damaging my hair with bleach any longer.

  • 2 days ago a hairstylist fried my hair and burnt my skull. She did a bleach wash and then highlights wich were not even the same color they looked horrible and I couldn’t even run my fingers through my hair and it all breaks off I’m depressed and crying so today I decided to die my hair black and bought sulfate free shampoo and conditioner my hair is a lot softer but it’s breaking off. She did cut off the ends and brushed it very harshly that 4 highlits broke off now I look like alfalfa from little rascals 😂

  • Thank you so much! This article was really helpful! I really want to dye my hair blonde tomorrow but I’m having second thoughts and it’s 12:03 at night right now lol, my hair’s already been dyed bright red 3 times so that worries me that my hair could really react to the bleach they’ll have to use, it shouldn’t do but hey, you do what you gotta do to silence the screams of second thoughts

  • Biggest issue I have is I bleached my hair to pits, then dyed it back to black and now I still have blonde hair problems. It dosen’t ever wanna dry properly with a blowdryer. It is always wet in some places, it gets tangled and never wants to be smooth after brushing. Awful!! I regret every desicion while I was blonde 😭

  • I have been struggling with my hair for over a year now also have struggled with hair loss about 3 months after I had Covid which made my hair even worse. I suffer from dry and brittle hair it’s so weak and has lost basically all density from Covid and over bleaching my hair. This has totally killed my self esteem. I haven’t dyed or bleached my hair and almost a year now. I’ve tried several different hair products I get to trims regularly and my hair is so short and feels like it hasn’t even grown an inch it’s been over a year and nothing. I am so desperate to fix my hair ☹️ Im even considering shaving it all off at this point. I just want my hair back 😢🥺😩

  • I swear I listened to every word spoken but I literally can’t stop looking at your make up. I’m 55 now and really haven’t ever learned how to apply make up properly. I love the shades of eye shadow and lip stick? Looks like you are wearing a chap stick. I know this article is a year old but can someone point me into the direction of these colors to aim for? My hair now is salt and pepper and I definitely have blue veins showing on my wrists (cool tone?). I want this no make up make up look so bad

  • I have an underdye and I love it, I’ve had it for 6 months and I have been retouching it once a month, professionally. The issue is that bleach has cause some of my hair to break and when I put my hair up in a ponytail, you could see the short hair that has broken off because of the damage. Like I said, I love the style and I don’t want to stop bleaching it. What do I do to prevent more hair at the nape of my neck from breaking?

  • Thanks beautiful, you’re the best when it comes to hair care advice. I’m almost at my desired level of blonde, I’ve had two full head and two half head of foils done since we come out of lockdown and when I was there two weeks ago I asked for a trim. Purely for the reason you said, I knew it had been at least eight weeks and my hair has stopped breaking. I definitely need to invest in an argan oil, maybe my serum has it, I’ll double check before I buy more hair products! #productjunkie xxx

  • Any advice for dry fried over processed hair plus oily scalp? I have no clue what to do anymore! I’ve tried everything. I have stopped bleaching but the oil and super dry ends are driving me crazy, I feel like someone needs to invent half control oil and half hydrating for for ends 🤦🏻‍♀️please help.

  • My hairdresser cut a layer all around my crown area. I have very fine hair and it’s curly. I look like I have 2 different hair cuts when it blow it out straight. The length is healthy. But the layer looks frail at the ends and very blunt. And it’s 4″ shorter than my length. It even looks a bit see through in the front of my hair by my face. I’m so upset. I just trimmed the length 1/4″ as it’s been 3 months since she did this to me. Any suggestions? I don’t want to cut off my hair or cut that layer any shorter than it already is. Please let me know!! I’m even piling the layer ends and clipping it up or I’ll leave it natural up in the bun. I do blow it out once or twice a week. Please let me know any suggestions Thank you 🙏🏼 😊
