Manually locking your garage door can provide increased security, weatherproofing, convenience, and peace of mind. To do this, you need to find the manual lock handle, which is usually located next to the door handle inside the garage. T-handle locks are a popular choice for manual garage doors, installed on the outside of the door and require a key to operate. When locked, the T-handle prevents the door from opening.
To lock the garage door from the outside, you need to install three products: a side lock (SK7115), an exterior handle, and a tie. If your trolley has a pair of holes, you can make a garage door lock with the release and a small plastic zip tie. The smallest tie will be strong enough to resist the tug of a door.
There are also “sliding bolts” that are purely internal and can take a padlock. Some garage doors can take a padlock, and some can be locked with a key. To lock the slide lock from the outside, you need to install a lock handle with the spindle inserted into the square hole next to the operating door.
There are four ways to lock a garage door manually: insert the key into the lock on the exterior, turn the key to engage the locking mechanism, check the lock inside, use zip ties, padlocks, or a side lock. Chain locks can be secured by sliding the end of the chain through a hole in the garage door and then using a padlock.
Installing a slide lock, adding an external heavy-duty garage door lock, and using a door Defender can help secure your garage from the outside. Some models may include a lock cylinder on the garagedoor, which can be inserted and the lock should come out.
