AG Jeans are a market leader in the jeans industry, known for their durability and comfort. They recommend washing new jeans on their own for the first 3-5 wears to prevent dimension-preserving whiskers and fading. AG Jeans can shrink by using alternative methods, but they hold their size and have “memory” in them, making them fit well.
The brand is known for its contributions to the industry, and their jeans are comfortable to wear and snug in the right places after a wash or two. They are recommended for those looking for a perfectly distressed and authentic looking light washed pair of skinny jeans. Normal jeans are usually washed and treated to prevent fade as well as raws, but denim will fade under certain conditions like wash frequencies.
The AG jeans are soft, flattering, and comfortable, with a gorgeous wash and distressing. They only need to be washed once or twice a month (or every 10 wears) to stay looking fresh and lasting longer. The jeans are recommended to go a size down to a size 29 for an 8 as they may initially be tight but will stretch with wear. The reason these jeans work for them and their slightly chunky thighs is the 98 cotton/2 polyurethane blend and the weight of the denim.
To maintain the quality of AG Jeans, it is advised to wear them religiously and forgo washing for as long as possible. When washing, it is dry clean all the way, as the chemical may pill over time. The viscose nature of the jeans may cause pilling over time.

Does washing machine damage jeans?
To prolong the life of your denim jeans, use a gentle machine-washing program at 30ºC and avoid handwashing. Empty pockets, zip up the fly, and turn the jeans inside-out to preserve color. Wash in a laundry bag to protect the fabric. Pretreat stains before washing, use a color-preserving detergent, especially for dark clothes, and avoid using fabric softener. Hang dry in a drying cabinet or rack, never tumble, and steam the jeans for optimal fit and softness. Avoid using fabric softener and avoid using fabric softener on dark jeans.
Does pilling mean bad quality?
Pilling does not necessarily indicate poor quality in fabrics. Factors like fiber composition, construction, and finish significantly influence the fabric’s tendency to pill. Even high-quality, luxurious fabrics can pill over time due to their soft texture. Pilling is not entirely preventable, but minimizing it can be achieved by choosing the right fabric with higher rub counts and tighter weaves. Fabrics like microfiber, leather, and some synthetics are less prone to pilling.
Is it bad to wash jeans inside out?
To maintain the quality of your jeans, follow these steps:
Wash jeans inside out and by themselves to protect the fibers on the outside from friction and detergent exposure. If you must wash jeans with other clothes, try with similarly colored jeans or clothing.
Hang jeans up to air dry or use a no heat cycle to prevent shrinking, fading, or yellowing of denim. If using a dryer, select a low or no heat cycle and use dryer balls to keep the jeans tumbling.
Remove the jeans while they’re still slightly damp, stretch the seams, and hang them up to finish drying. Once completely dry, hang or fold them to store in a drawer or on a shelf.
Should you wash real denim?
It is recommended that denim be washed every 10-12 wears, although this frequency may vary depending on factors such as sweating, spills, heavy-duty use, and humidity. The decision regarding the optimal frequency for laundering is ultimately at the discretion of the individual.
How to wash ag jeans?
Cold water is a more efficient method for washing jeans, as it reduces energy usage by 75-90 and outperforms warmer temperatures when washing darker colors. It also helps remove blood or sweat, reduce shrinkage, and minimize wrinkles. To conserve water and prevent fading, use mild detergent with delicate and small load settings. Separate denim from lighter garments and leave out fabric softener. If using a dryer, avoid overloading the machine to ensure even drying and less energy consumption. Stop the dryer halfway through the cycle and air dry to finish. If drying another set of clothes, place them immediately after the first load to recycle heat and reduce energy footprint.
Does washing cause pilling?
A washing machine does not cause pilling on its own, but it can speed up or worsen it. To reduce pilling, use smart tactics on laundry day, such as turning clothes inside out, fastening zippers, sorting by type, and using cold, gentle cycles. Remove lint and fuzz from clothes before washing, using a lint brush, fabric shaver, or shaking them out. Turn garments inside out to prevent rubbing against other garments.
Why are my jeans pilling on the inside?
Pills, or small, firm balls of lint, are common on clothing due to normal wear and tear. These balls are formed when broken clothing fibers become tangled and attract loose micro-threads during the wash cycle. Over time, these threads clump together, forming the characteristic lint ball. However, it is possible to prevent pilling and remove these pills from clothing. The best way to prevent pilling is to avoid wearing new clothes with looser, shorter fibers, as it starts before you even bring new clothing home.
Do jeans get ruined in the wash?
Nicole Russo, a private stylist and founder of Let’s Get You, suggests that less washing jeans is better as it breaks down the fabric and makes the jeans look more worn with each wash. The type of denim also determines how the jeans should be washed, so it’s important to pay attention to the care tag. Venk Modur, a celebrity fashion stylist, recommends washing classic denim with cold water and air-drying after approximately five wears.
Blended denim, which is mixed with Spandex, Lycra, or poly-cotton fibers, should be washed as soon as they start to lose their shape. Raw denim and sanforized denim should be dry cleaned for three to four months before the first dry clean. To preserve the life of outstanding jeans, follow these tips:
- Avoid excessive washing: Wash jeans with cold water and air-dry after approximately five wears. Avoid putting the jeans through a beating, as each cycle can break down the fabric.

Washing jeans with other items can cause indigo bleeding, so it’s best to turn them inside out to prevent excessive bleeding. Use a denim-friendly detergent and cycle settings for dry cleaning to prevent bleeding and give a more even fade. However, this exposes the dirtiest part of the jeans to water and detergent. Hand washing is recommended as it’s gentler on the fibers and helps prevent excessive water temperature. Denim bleeds blue blood, so it’s best to hand wash jeans to avoid damaging lighter colors. Hands are also good thermometers, so they can help prevent hot water from causing damage.
How do you wash pure denim jeans?
To prevent shrinking or bleeding in jeans, use cold water and wash separately or with similar-colored denim. Hand wash new jeans by folding or rolling them before squeezing out the leftover water. Hang them to dry. Raw denim can shrink up to 10 after washing, so buy a size up or two from your regular waist size.
