  • While I understand why some would not like the “Magic X” shape in the shower pan, it serves a useful function to ensure that the water drain properly and especially when using the Kerdi drain system. I think people should look at Stud Pack’s article on the “Magic X” to explain why it is very useful. I have been looking forward to a article drop by you, and man, oh man, have you delivered yet another beautiful bathroom remodel that have me drooling.

  • Nice looking during a home tour but a maintenance/cleaning nightmare. Free standing tub is going to get very gross behind it against the wall. Niches as have been installed here will likewise be a pain to keep clean. Toilet, same. Also, you’ve removed closet storage for towels etc. completely and put it in the hallway…wtf. Like I said, looks nice but not especially practical design unless you have hired cleaning help.

  • I grew up in 63 mobile home. My parents brought it brand new. Mobile home depreciate bad.. my both died and mobile got demolished.. it was nightmare, the rotten wood, and mold behind the shower. The electric was a whole other story.. I still have a love mobile home.. sometime cosmetic isn’t the answer..

  • My wife and i really enjoy perusal your articles and have gained alot of confidence in our choice to go with a manufactured home. Purchasing a manufactured home will allow us to have it paid off in 10 years as apposed to having a 30 year mortgage. I do want to ask how much your 1980s trailer cost without the land and how much the tow delivery was as well thank you

  • I just moved into a 1980 Hilltop single wide in really good condition. right now, painting inside of kitchen cabinets. gonna paint inside everywhere. One concern…. I want to get the tub removed and replace with a shower. The tub appears to be steel with a false front. It’s about 27″ x 54″ with a false front. I want to replace it with a fiber glass shower enclosure, 32 x 48, or there about. What kind of pain is it to get that tub out? Is it super heavy??? I will call a handy man if we can get the damn thing out. No hurry, just planning. Carol

  • My boyfriend and I just purchased a mobile home & I’m 5 months pregnant at the moment. It needs a bit of work, but what I noticed needed immediate attention is the bathroom. I often smell odd smells from the drains/toilet plumbing I’m guessing because I smell poop sometimes (gross I know could be the smell everything pregnancy nose) & also found out very quickly that our bathroom sink doesn’t turn on at all. (Any suggestions on if we should just gut out the old sink & replace it?) Also have a walk in shower that I would love to turn into a tub/shower eventually. We’re 23 & on a tight budget, any advice would be helpful!

  • We have a 2004 mobile home. One bathroom works perfect, three people use it.. My 85 year old mom has the master bathroom. We have a garden unused tub. We have had an ongoing problem with the toilet. My mom wears diapers, and uses the toilet very little compared to the smaller bathroom. We replaced the toilet about 4 years ago because it never worked right. Flushing is still a problem. Three months ago a plumber charged $750, snaked the pipe and found no clog yet the toilet was flushing when he was done. Now same problem. When we flush the toilet it appears to be flushing toward the garden tub and not to the septic. It’s a low flow toilet so it’s not backing up into the garden tub. There is no roof vent pipe. There is a vent under the bathroom sink, does this control the toilet? I’ve read a toilet will not work without a vent.

  • So happy to find your articles! I also have a mobile home and I love it, too! Had to laugh when I saw your original bathroom sinks; they were exactly the same as mine! I’ve been slowly doing improvements to my home, and since it’s just me doing the work (with a few exceptions) I haven’t replaced the bathroom sinks yet. I just finished painting the exterior, with help from my daughter. I have a doublewide, so it took approximately 3 days, but it turned out so good. Got the paint on sale, so it only cost $104. perusal for deals like that allow me to do improvements, which I’m sure you can appreciate. Keep the articles coming, I’m really enjoying them!

  • We had those exact same plastic sinks, and replaced them with the same stuff you did. Luckily both bathrooms and kitchen sink had standard rough opening and everything just dropped in. My neighbor has a 70’s mobile home, and I changed her kitchen sink, and it really opened up a can of worms, due to odd rough opening sizes. Anyway good article and content!

  • How do I find someone to trust to install new bathroom fixtures, etc. ? I have a gross original tub/shower that will cave in eventually because it is from the 1980’s. You are incredible giving info and this went by so fast. I hope you can have time to answer questions. I’m in Mesa, Az. So far cannot find qualified/worthy remodels for my manufactured home.

  • Ohmygosh! This was very helpful. But I have a question! Woukd you be willing to do a article on how you removed the casing to your bathtub and installed the tiles? I noticed in your article it showed your tub and it had tile! I cannot find ANYTHING on ripping out the ugly plastic surround in our bathroom and its so frustrating! 😭😭 I just want something that isnt YELLOW and tub/tile reno kits that you can get at home dept and lowes can’t be used on plastic tubs amd surrounds! Please help!
