What’S Written On The Outside Walls Of Masjid Al-Aqsa?

The al-Aqsa Mosque, located in Jerusalem, is a symbol of resistance and monotheism, and is the third holiest mosque in the world. It stands near the Dome of the Rock on Al-Haram al-Sharif, which is known to Jews as the Wailing Wall. The construction of the Dome of the Rock has been confirmed by a Kufic inscription on its mosaic.

The al Buraq Wall, also known as the Western Wall of Masjid al Aqsa, is the location where Prophet Muhammad PBUH tied his heavenly conveyance, the Buraq, on the night journey of al Isra and Mi’raj. The mosque’s boundaries and area have not changed over the centuries, with its walls forming an irregular semi-circular shape. The inscriptions on the mosaics contain numerous Qur’anic verses, including the phrase “There is no god but God. Muhammad is the messenger of God”.

The al-Aqsa Mosque is generally associated with the Day of Judgment, and its entrance contains an inscription of the school’s founder’s name and the year of construction. The glazed tiles were made in Turkey, and its Arabic inscription tells of the Night Journey of Muhammad as described in the Qur’an (Surah 17).

The study provides an analysis of the process of creating the general shape of the ‘Holy’ within the sacred architecture of the al-Aqsa Mosque and its reflection in the general. The mosque is known for its unique architecture and construction, with its walls forming an irregular semi-circular shape.

The Nuba inscription, an early Islamic text found in a mosque near Hebron, identifies the territory of Nuba as an endowment to the Rock of Bayt al-Maqdis and the al-Aqsa Mosque. This suggests that early Muslims were aware of the Temple Mount’s significance as the site of the Jewish Temple and viewed the Dome of the Rock as a symbolic reestablishment of this sacred space.

The inscription also states that the territory, Nuba, and its boundaries are an endowment to the Rock of Bayt al-Maqdis and the al-Aqsa Mosque, as dedicated by the Commander of the Faithful, ̒Umar iben al-Khattab for the sake of Allah the Almighty.

What are notes in wall Jerusalem?

The Western Wall is a sacred site in Judaism, where over a million prayer notes or wishes are placed annually. These notes are based on the Midrashic teaching that the Divine Presence remains stationary, and the Kabbalistic teaching that prayers ascend to Heaven through the Temple Mount, which the Western Wall abuts. The notes can be written in various languages, formats, and lengths, including poems and Biblical verses.

They are written on various paper types and inks. Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, the Rabbi of the Western Wall, receives hundreds of letters addressed to “God, Jerusalem” and folds them and places them in the Wall.

The passages also mention Muḥammad as the messenger of God, and the Prophet is blessed by God and His angels. Why are the inscriptions of the qur an on the walls of the Dome of the Rock important?

The Dome of the Rock inscriptions are a significant historical moment in the evolution of early Muslim identity. Completion of the inscriptions marked the first act of ʿAbd al-Malik, who was first proclaimed caliph in Syria in 685 CE and later ruled a unified Islamic empire in 692 after suppressing a rebellion against the Umayyad dynasty. One of his first acts to mark this victory was the completion of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.

The Dome of the Rock is an important document, with its octagonal design, extensive inscriptions, and location around a sacred stone on the Temple Mount. The building is not technically a mosque but a structure around a large stone that the Islamic tradition links to the Prophet’s night journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and Quran 17:1’s reference to a night journey by God’s servant.

Many theories have been put forward as to the purpose of the Dome of the Rock, including its purpose to establish Jerusalem as an alternative pilgrimage site to Mecca, and its connection to the destroyed Jewish temple. The underlying intent seems to have been to assert ownership of the Abrahamic legacy, according to the Islamic theory of embracing/correcting/completing the Judaic and Christian tradition.

What is the inscription around the Dome of the Rock?

The Dome of the Rocks, located in Jerusalem, was completed in AH 72 (691/2 CE) by Abbasid caliph Al-Ma’mun. The dome’s decoration was initially Umayyad, consisting of marble and mosaics. However, 16th-century Ottoman sultan Suleyman the Magnificent replaced it with Ottoman tile decoration, using various styles and techniques. The tiles were resembling Iznik tiles produced for the Ottoman capital. The original tiles were replaced in the 1960s with Italian copies.

Surah Ya-Sin, the ‘Heart of the Quran’, was commissioned in the 16th century by Suleiman the Magnificent. Surah 17, Al-Isra, which tells the story of the Isra or Night Journey, is inscribed above this. The original tiles were replaced in the 1960s with faithful copies produced in Italy.

  • I went to Jerusalem in late 2018. I visited the al-Aqsa complex and prayed in both the al-Aqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock. It was one of those moments in life when you exquisitely feel the completeness and that life is so beautiful because I’ve had the chance and able to see this holy place. And if God’s willing, I will come for a visit again. Insya Allah!

  • the Temple mt. was the site of the 1st Holy jewish temple destroyed the 586 b.c. (e) and the 2nd Jewish holy Temple destroyed by the romans in the year 70 of the 1st centyry a.d./c.e.) some jews remainede in jerusalem. the exiled prayed daily of returning to jerusalem. islam was born in the 7th century in the hijaz (present day saudi arabia). yathrib ( medina) there had three tribes of religious jews- farmers of date palms and merchants. muhamed learned from them. then all the jewish men were beheaded and the women and children converted to islam. all the jewish property- houses and businesses were confiscated by the muslims. arabs attacked jerusalem. aware that the Temple mt. was the site of the 1st and 2nd Jewish holy temples the arabs built mosque on it. knowing that the western wall was the only thing left of the destroyed jewish Holy Temple arab jourdan denied jews access to pray near it. in 1967 several armies of the surrounding arab countries attacked israel planning to destroy it. G-d and the israel defense forces prevented that from happening. the old city including the western wall was liberated. that israeli administration made the decision to allow the jourdanians to maintain control of the Temple mt. muslims only had free access to go to the Temple mt. jews were forbidden to pray there. as a result of the 1967 war jews settled into biblical judea and samaria ( wrongfully called the occupied west bank.) in hebron in 1929 arabs murdered 69 jewish students who were there praying.

  • Well I’m an American Christian of Muslim ancestry and I have never been permitted to worship there. Jordan (which is the east bank of Palestine) illegally annexed Jerusalem in 1950 and destroyed every synagogue in the city. The Jews voted for peace and coexistence with the Palestinians prior to Independence but the Palestinians rejected peace and chose continuous war. But Allah has given victory to the Jews and brought them back to their land and as both the Bible and Quran say. So it is clear that Allah had rewarded those who chose peace over hatred!! I see no reason for a 2nd palestinian state when it would be only used to kill or drive out every Jew in the Holyland.

  • UGHH I was hoping for a nice history documentary and got blasted with bias ….ruined the article. If you want to turn this into politics, name the article “the pro palestinian politics of al aqsa mosque”…not “the history” of it. Believe it or not, some of us don’t care about the politics and just want to learn the history without bias.

  • 4:12 – The Pact of Umar wasn’t one of the “most beautiful interfaith agreements”, why are you trying to deceive the viewer? It is literally an agreement making non-Muslims second and third class citizen, subservient and beneath Muslims in every way, instead of murder and expulsion Here are the literal points of this “beautiful” agreement: Prohibition against building new churches, places of worship, monasteries, or a new cell. (Hence it was also forbidden to build new synagogues. It is known that new synagogues were only built after the occupation of Islam, for example in Jerusalem and Ramle. A similar law, prohibiting the building of new synagogues, existed in the Byzantines, and was therefore not new for all Jews. It was new for the Christians.) Prohibition against rebuilding destroyed churches, by day or night, in their own neighbourhoods or those situated in Muslim quarters. The places of worship of non-Muslims must be lower in elevation than the lowest mosque in town. The houses of non-Muslims must not be taller in elevation than the houses of Muslims. Prohibition against hanging a cross on the outside of Churches. Muslims should be allowed to enter Churches (for shelter) at any time, both day and night. Obliging the call to prayer by a bell or a kind of Gong (Nakos) to be low in volume. Prohibition against Christians and Jews raising their voices at prayer times. Prohibition against teaching non-Muslim children the Qur’an. Christians forbidden to publicly display their religion, or to be seen with Christian books or symbols in public, on the roads or in the markets of the Muslims.

  • Built in late 7th Century!? Israel was there in thousands BC!!! The Muslim conquest of Israel in 635 and they are saying they own the place? So the Muslims conquered Israel and they do not want Israel to repossess her heritage!!! Who is the real victim of war and barbarism!? Israel!!! Anyway the hard truth is Al Aqsa mosque is as good as gone. Why!? Divinely ordained by God Almighty!!!

  • The first Jewish Temple was built around 1000 BCE and the second Temple was destroyed 1,700 years later in 70 CE, which was five hundred years before Muhammed was born. This is the single most important spot in the world for the Jews whose history there predates all other nations and religions by far and yet are somehow not allowed to respectfully pray there? I hope one day this sacred spot can be shared among all people. Anyone who comes in peace from any religion, culture or heritage should be allowed to pray here. Also, it would be nice for the Waqf to allow excavations, imagine all the most stunning artifacts on earth waiting to be discovered from Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Roman and all other eras in between. Come on my Muslim brothers and sisters, sharing is caring 😉

  • Do the Muslim brothers here in this thread know that the site of the two mosques were original temple compound as directed by Adonai? Why did you built your mosque on a piece of land that was designated for the God of the Jewish people? There was alot of free land where you could put up worship centre’s but no you wanted to desecrate the Holy of Holies! Anyway as Christians Jesus said our bodies are the true temple of God…

  • After reading many “funny” comments, so I gather and try to relate to them. I’m from Indonesia, so basically it’s like this: thousands of years ago, Indonesia used to be a Hindu and Buddhist land, then slowly we’re now the biggest Muslim country in the world, mosques are built on top of used to be “Hindu and Buddhist” land, does it mean Hindu and Buddhist people from around the world can come and claim the land as birthright? 😅 That’s Israel logic.

  • Such a one sided view of the issue .. I wish to ask every Muslim out there .. put aside your religious views for a minute and think of the issue of the other side’s perspective . How would you guys feel if tomorrow someone creates a new religion and says that Mecca is my holy site, we need to demolish the Kaaba and create a new religious compound . Would that be justified ? Would you people agree ? . Its a well known fact that Judaism predates Islam and the site has been held holy by the Jews for more than a millennium before Islam. How could you invalidate the Jews’ claim to the site ?

  • 5:57 They intentionally glossed and skipped over the part where Jordan invaded and illegally annexed the West Bank and Egypt invaded and illegally annexed Gaza from 1948-1967 and they were both involved in massacring Palestinians who didn’t heed their Ultimatums to evacuate the territories before they launched their invasions. They shouldn’t ignore the fact that Egypt and Jordan both played a major part in the Nakba, and were NOT fighting in the war to liberate Palestinians, but to conquer the territory and horde It all for themselves to prop up the statuses of their nation’s importance over possession of the historical religious sites in the territory.

  • Interesting, but mildly biased. The site was the location of the second Jewish temple, until 70CE, although little is known about the first temple (other than the information in the Jewish bible). It is also important to note that after 1967 Jews visited the site often, but not religious Jews, as some religious rabbis believe it is forbidden. Although still held by many rabbis, this position has started to erode, and now there are many religious Jews visiting the site. That is the main change. As they are not just visiting, but also aspiring to pray there (something Israel has so far did not allow), it is seen by Palestinians as a break from the status quo. The Palestinians have made the site a national symbol, and are using it as a way to rally support to their cause from Muslim countries. It certainly looks like we are heading into another war in the region, as both sides will use the site as their banner.

  • It was the Jews 3000 years ago, under King David, that discovered the sanctity of Jerusalem. Ever since then, Jerusalem has been the focus all Jews all over the world. Jews pray three times everyday toward the Temple Mount. Jew were praying toward the Temple Mount when Muhammad was an idol worshipper in Mecca. If not for Jews being there first, no one in the world would about care about that once little village. Al-Quds. What does it mean in Arabic? Nothing! Al-Quds is Hebrew ha-Qodesh, which means ‘the Holy.” Yerashalaim ha-Qodesh.

  • I’m from neighbouring Jordan. I believe both Jews and Muslims should share this site without any violence or interruption of prayers. Judaism was the first Abrahamic religion, Islam is the third and last Abrahamic religion. Both sides have their historical and religious moments there, so there should be an agreement to settle this once and for all, both can pray there, Muslims and Jews can actually pray together at the same time, since we both share almost the same religions, apart from Christianity.

  • When things are not in control the authority should not permit any one from either religions. Else justify both religions by dividing equally. Creating tensions damaging brotherhood is not at all called humanity and those who support violence are the pure culprits. Allah talah will punish those personalities in hell.

  • I am so sorry, but this is not what muslim holliest mosque’s story is supposed to be. Haram mosque and Nabawi mosque bring joyfull memories and tranquility to their visitors. But Al-aqsa’s story gives us heartache, anger, regret, bloodshed. Sooner or later, I think we have to let It go, but one important memory stand still forever. Our prophet ascended to heaven from there.

  • As muslims, we need to reinstate the caliphate for the ummah. The OIC should spawn the caliphate and share power equally with rotating leadership. Only with organization of the ummah can we truly reinstate palestinian statehood. If we are selfish and biased, we will lose Palestine. This’ll cause a ripple effect and autonomy of Muslim states that’ll have untold consequences.

  • Could you throw more light on few questions or doubts? 1) why the very exact location which was so holy and of utmost religious imporance to jews chosen by the then muslim leadership to built a mosque over there…. 2) didnt prophet or other people in the muslim leadership already know about importance of that very exact loaction for jews…. 3) or was it that area or location was completely abondoned by jews in that period and there were no people available to tell or no signs available that reflected significance of that very exact location for the jews..and hence the muslim leadership was not aware of it and chose that place to be made religiously significant for muslim 4- or that location was deliberately chosen by someone part of muslim leadership at that time in order to undermine and discredit jews of claims to that location Any body who is knowledgable plz throw more light on it

  • Assalamu alaikum, after knowing what is happening around the world with people of gaza and Palestine, I want to ask if anyone can say perusal documentaries like national geographic websites series featuring Morgan Freeman on the story of God, is misleading? As a muslim wanting to know more information about the past history related with al aqsa masjid and muslims jews and christians where can we try to learn more from authentic sources?

  • There are a lot of important historical facts left out. For instance, the current situation at the site in Hebron is a compromise in which the Jews and Muslims split the building for almost the entire year. For ten days, the Jewish side is opened to Muslims (and closed to Jews) and for a different 10 days, the Muslim side is opened to Jews and closed to Muslims. It is worth noting that “neither side is happy” but it is a compromise that works remarkably well, and the 10 days for each group are coordinated such that worshippers of each religion are granted full access on relevant respective holidays. Another note: Muslims see Jewish prayer on the Al Aqsa compouns as an affront to the holiness of the site, which is why they describe Jewish presence as “settlers storming hte compound.” This was the language used at the UN emergency session on the subject recently. They were describing a group of Jews *walking around*. The incendiary rhetoric is a prerequisite to violence.

  • if jews were allowed to praye in judaism holiest site-temple mount, which used to be the location of the jewish temple hundreds of years before of mohammad’s birth, without being attacked by islamist or pan arab mobs, and the muslim wakf guaranteed their safety,no israeli policeman would have “raided” al aqsa or temple mount yard. and if you want to talk about attacks on places of worshipby muslims and pan arabs and palestinians, way before ibrahimi mosque attack in 1994,why not. vienna and paris and rome and istanbul and algiers and syria and hebron and shafrir synagogue attacks just to mention few…as for “respecting other’s holy places”-read about ottoman ban on jews on praying in abrahams grave,in nabi samuel(aside from the long standing ban on jews visiting temple mount),the concersion of hagia sofia to a nosque, where yunus mosque and yaakoubi mosque were built…

  • I am Jewish. I love all people whatever their beliefs and religions are from. The temple Mount is a place for all. It is the most holy place for all. However when there people throwing stones from there or anywhere in the world to harm others there must be security measures swiftly put into place this is what the IDF did. Which has saved many Israeli and Palestine worshippers lives. And enabled and facilitated 100 000s of worshippers ability to pray in peace.

  • 1948: Israel was declared a state, then the war happened. Israel’s capture of territory following the 1967 war was NOT in violation of international law. This article is biased and has some misinformation (perhaps deliberately). It should be noted that Hamas is an internationally recognized terrorist group and Israel’s acts have always been in reaction to Hamas terrorist acts. “Occupation” is also a false, leading term, since there has never been an Arab state called “Palestine”. Prior to 1964 if anyone was called a Palestinian, the world knew that person was Jewish from the area the Romans renamed to Palestine (now Israel and some surrounding areas).

  • Allah clearly states in the Quran that the holy land belongs to the Jews!: “When Moses said to his people, “O my people, remember God’s blessings upon you, when He placed prophets among you, and made you kings, and gave you what He never gave any other people.” “O my people, enter the Holy Land which God has assigned for you, and do not turn back, lest you return as losers.” (Quran 5, 20-21)

  • ” Glorified (and exalted) is He (Allah) (above all that they associate with him) who took his slave (Muhammad pbuh) for a journey by night from Masjid al Haram (at Makkah) to Masjid al Aqsa (Jeruslem), the neighbourhood that we have blessed, in order that we might show him of our ayat (proof, signs, evidences etc) verily He is the all-Hearer, all-Seer. (Qur’an 17:1)

  • Very well presented it. Liked it. But you shuld remember, this place YHWH gave to Jacobs (current israelis jews). Even the Christians church and al aqsa mosque built by destroy ing the temple ideally shuld not be the. It makes sense for the jews to reclaim it back.yes, the method deployed by israelis is very bad. Condemn it. Urge the Muslims to give it back peacefully.

  • And We decreed for the Children of Israel in the Book: ‘You shall corrupt the land twice, and you shall ascend exceedingly highAnd when the promise of the first came, We sent against you Our worshipers, those of great might, and they went through the habitations, and the promise was accomplished. Then, We gave the turn back to you to prevail over them, and We helped you with wealth and children, and made you the greater host. If you do good, it shall be for your own souls; but if you do evil it is likewise. ‘ And when the second promise came (We sent them against you), to sadden your faces and to enter the Mosque(aqsa) as they entered it the first time, they utterly destroyed whatever they came across. isra 4-6

  • The ongoing oppression of Palestinians by the Israeli government is a cruel and egregious injustice, and it is vital that the international community does not remain silent in the face of this injustice. We must continue to speak up and lend our support to the Palestinian people until they are able to secure the rights, freedoms, and justice that they deserve. Don’t give up hope, your cause and cries for justice will not go unheard. 🇵🇸❤️

  • R.W. Hamilton, director of the British Mandate Antiquities Department, carried out the only archaeological excavation ever undertaken at the Temple Mount’s Aqsa Mosque by the British Mandate in 1938, the excavations found a Byzantine mosaic floor underneath the foundations of the mosque that was either the remains of a church or a monastery. R.W. Hamilton also found a paving slab under the floor bearing the image of a centaur (a creature from Greek mythology) dated to the 3rd century CE that related to pagan religious construction on the Temple Mount during the Roman Period (135–325 CE). These archeological findings prove Muhammads claim Al asqa was built 40 years after the Kaaba (Sahih al-Bukhari 3366) and the Islamic narrative that Al asqa was built by Adam or Abraham as completely and comprehensively false.

  • G-d gave a portion of the Holy Land to the children of Ishmael. Based on Zohar Shemot 32A —— (R. Hiyya then says) Woe is to the time that Ishmael was born into the world and was circumcised. What did G‑d do (to appease Ishmael)? He distanced the children of Ishmael from supernal cleaving and gave them (only) a portion below in the Holy Land on account of their circumcision. And in the future, the children of Ishmael are destined to rule over the Holy Land for a long time when it is empty from anything, like their circumcision which is empty and imperfect. And they will prevent the children of Israel from returning to their place until the reward for the merit of the children of Ishmael reaches completion. The children of Ishmael (i.e. the Arab nations) will cause great wars in the world and the children of Edom will gather against them and wage war against them, one on the sea, one on the dry land, and one near Jerusalem. And they (the children of Edom) will rule over them (the children of Ishmael), but the Holy Land will not be given over to the children of Edom. (The children of Edom is the Christian West, for Edom is Rome (see Num. 24:19, Rashi) and Rome signifies Greece-Rome and the Roman Catholic Church, the foundations of Western Civilization) ————– It had already been prophesied in the Bible that the descendants of Ishmael/Arabs shall administer the Temple Mount/Jerusalem. Isaiah 60:7 “All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory.

  • Well, funfact: The “Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem” was fake. The prophet of Islam, Muhammad died in 632 ad, while the supposed “Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem” was built in 705 ad. How come did Muhammad visit a mosque that hasn’t been built yet? Heck, even Jerusalem was still in the Byzantine’s hands! The real Al-aqsa mosque according to early islamic sources actually located in near Ji’iranna, on the road between Mecca and Ta’af. The reason there’s other “Al-aqsa mosque in Alquds (Jerusalem) was because: In 682 ad, the Umayyads of Damascus were barred from making pilgrimage (“hajj”) to Mecca, and consequently had to choose somewhere else to go. They chose Jerusalem, and rewrote the story in the Koran; they moved al-Aqsa to Jerusalem and added in the myth of Mohammed’s night-time journey.

  • Just imagine if the Palestinians could get over there greed and allow everyone, no matter what religion or race, to experience the glory of god at the most holy place on earth. None of this death and destruction would be happening, would have happened. Pray for peace and acceptance for all, denying the glory of god on the most holy site on all of the earth is a mortal sin.

  • This place is no connection with arab Palestine people’s because islamic religion is not come from Palestine people’s, Islam tells the lies story of Muhammad israq mikraj without any evidence and witnesess because during Muhammad life period travel night journey 620 there Was no mosque at Jews Holly site, how come Muhammad go to the place that no mosque there, only 695/700 AD muslims invaded Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa mosque was built by islamic empire there.

  • The fact about the prophet of the Quran they lied about what God permitted multiple wives marriage is a sin DONT GOD of heaven didn’t permit multiple wives marriage Please look at meteorite spacerocks that’s what’s inside Mecca block covered in black cloth adorned with silver They put oil on the stuff? That’s what muslims have been praying to I pray to GOD they see the light🙌 AMEN

  • This is crazy. There should be nothing holly or special with the Jewish Temple/wall nor with the Al Aqsa Complex/mosques. The whole earth belongs to God/Allah and wherever an able-body muslim is oppressed, he/she should migrate to another place to safely follow the rules of God during his life_ this is from the Quran (Surah Nisa, Ayat. 97-100). The only thing special about the complex is its history and its cultural aspects. But, Islam has come to free us from tribalism, culturalism, and the Quran clearly scolds people who do not think for themselves and blindly mimic the beliefs of their fathers/ancestors. Judaism was a true faith from Allah as we muslims believe. However, the jewish people committed aggressions on the land and misinterpreted the message of God for their worldy gains or out if the ignorance/temprations that they were afflicted with for having gone astray from the Right Path. However, we believe that Islam was revealed to correct those aggressions by Jews and Christians. And yet, we see muslims still giving in to such attachments to pieces of land or buildings or historic features.l

  • This commentary misrepresents a number of historical and archaeological facts. The Dome of the Rock was built over the rock where the biblical and the Herodian Temple of Jerusalem once stood. The saga that Muhammad was riding to a distant city via the night is mentionned in the Quran but without reference to Jerusalem proper. This was invented much later, probably even after the construction of the Dome at the end of the 7th century and the Al Aqsa Mosque, which was constructed some 90 years after Muhammad’s death according to written testimony. Roman and Byzantine columns are deployed as spolias for the construction of the Dome, but also Byzantine, i.e. Christian artisans worked for it, and the Crusaders created important extensions to the Al Aqsa Mosque – so much for their Islamic origins. Why are Arab people unable to report the facts and admit, that Abd al Malik and his followers just wanted to supersede Judaism and Christianity?

  • I don’t remember Christians or Jews ever building a worship site on top of a muslim Holy site. The lack of respect is incredible. What’s next? Hagia Sofia was converted to a mosque. Do muslims want to build a mosque on top of the Vatican? The site under the Dome of the Rock belongs to the Jews, the third temple will be built there.

  • Arab propaganda with so many inaccuracies that itcreally should ne taken off Youtube until corrected. Some inaccuracie; Mosque of Omar is in the Christian Quarter Israrl sits on less than 1/3 of British Mandate of Palestine. Al Aqsa has a copper dome and is not the original building completed in 705 There are too many wring statements to list them all here.

  • The greeks raised a temple for Zeus in that place so they should claim it as a sacred placed too?. I am sorry my arab friends, 3000 years of history are against your claims. That place, Jerusalem was founded by the israelites 3000 years ago. King David created the old Jerusalem walls, the pools, the tunnels in the guihon springs, the cisterns, his son Salomon bought those megalithic stones of the temple mount, then after exiles in Babylonian and Persian empires the Israelites restored the walls of old Jerusalem. Israelites were expelled by the Roman empire in 70 AD. Suleiman later in 1500 AD, blocked the gates of the temple mount, gates were israelites used to enter the temple mount. Israelites kept thier cultural heritage, language and identification as nation since then (70 AD) and after 2600 years Israel is back again a nation, fulfilling what it was prophecied by Daniel 2600 years ago.

  • The history doen’t start in the 7th century . The jew king David starts the area . His son king solomon (the jew king again ) built the first temple . Temple in heberew is ” bait ha-mikdash ” that the Arabs drive the name ” bait al-maqdis ” in thier languge . After the first temple distracted by Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon, the Jews built the second temple . But the second temple distracted again by Romans and they thier church . In the 7th century Omar Al-kahtab conquer the area, distracted the church and built the Al-Aska mosque . The neighbouring Arabs starts to come to the area . But there were no state by the name of palastine until the first world war and this name is not known to regular people . The Britsh doesn’t want that the Jews come to Israel and they call this area palastine by the name of thier historian emeny . The meaning of palastine (polshim) in heberew is invader . The jews give that name to the people that migrates from Greece to the Gaza area of now.

  • You are talking nonsense when was it built ? by whom ? Why ? This is the octagonal church that the arab invenders / khalid turned into mosque . It was the place where Jesus stood trial . Your mind is short and paid to be narrow . Messenger of islam respected the Torah and sworn on it and moreover he never set foot to Israel, land of the people of book ; quran . Got it

  • If your ancestral homes are being invaded for decades, your men, women, kids being killed and imprisoned..your toens being bombed..you would be surprised to know what you are capable of when you are fighting with the belief there is no other way or hope.when you have only 2 choices to die while fighting or die like a coward. God bless palestine 🇵🇸 and its people❤

  • Abraham was a refugee from Babylon with most of his sons Issac and Jacob were in Egypt for 400 years at time Joseph was minister of the king of Egypt. 1500 BC Moses took Israelites from Egypt to than the promised land but they refused to enter the land. God then gave Moses two promises of return for repentance. The first return was during David and Solomon 1000BC and that ended with exodus to Babylon by buchadnazzer in 500 Bc The second return is this return 1921 by British mandate of Palestine. According to the studies the 100 years if the Jews second return stay had expired. Jacob bought a land from canaanites to bury Abraham as they had no land of own. The land was for the canaanites who are Palestinian. Prophet Muhammad was taken to the heavens from the dom rock 621 AD and there was revealed to his the story of the two promises of Jews to which the first was by David and Solomon.

  • The sanctity of the place was never respective both sides. It so sad that it became a place for riot and displacement of people instead of prayer and worship. Praying and hoping leaders of these country will do their job properly and come up with solution that both side should be respected and can freely practice their respective beliefs without the fear of being attack or eruption of riot. 😢😢😢

  • You must understand the following. Before the 1948 war of Israeli independence the Land of Israel was occupied by the British Empire. The 1948 war was with the British Empire. The Arabs were never in the picture. All of the sudden the Arabs are claiming the Land of Israel. Historicly speaking the Arabs never had anything to do with the Land of Israel. Before the Roman Empire invaded Israel 2000 years ago, the land of Israel was called Israel not Mecca. It is about time you guy’s learn History.

  • Romans 10:9 King James Version 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved John 3:16 King James Version 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

  • There are a lot of standing places in different religions to meditate and praise God. As fellow human being we respect every belief no matter how many concrete walls they build. The important thing is here we know from the beginning that the place where the strong pole is built was originally owned by the origin country. May ALMIGHTY GOD end conflict and put PEACE, LOVE within our hearts, 💕 💞 ♥️ ♥️

  • Bismillah Rahman Rahim this is holy site for all muslims who do not have wepons to worship the one unseen sovereign most high creator of the universe and respect this holy site in full sincerity and devotion given thanks and praise for the goodness and mercy for the believers as our prophet Muhammad pbuh and his progeny. Following Koran and Ahlulbayt we muslims bow down in worship of one unseen sovereign Allah the giver and take of life and has the power of resurrection to give life again and gives paradise to the faithful.

  • Not only prophet Muhammad pbuh descended to heaven that’s where ibraheem pbuh was yaqub isa was born there to Christians call him Jesus lol he’s not a god he’s a messenger of god same as Moses aka musa Jospeh yusuf David dawud solomon sulieman you get it they just changed up our religions and names of our prophets. But they couldn’t do that to the last and final fixture of prophets given the last testament the Quran witch you can never change you can go ahead and try is memorised by hundreds of millions of Muslims even little kids old as age 6 no other prophets can say that except from muhammad pbuh that was one of his miracles given by god that he’s the last and final fixture all prophets are descendants and progency of each other muhammad pbuh has hundreds of miracles like halving the moon and putting it back together Yh that’s awesome but what’s way more better is that he’s followers which is us were he’s ummah he’s followers memorised the book and never changed it no one can change it same way they did with the Torah given to Moses and the injeel given to Jesus even if hundreds of millions try to change the Quran they can’t is a miracle you get caught out by one letter wrong that comes out of your mouth is memorised these zionist are just jealous that we are the truth and Abraham Jesus Moses jacob Adam Noah enoch jonah pbuh them all and many other prophets are Muslim and prayed like us an submit to one lord only they worship Allah and Christians know Jesus came to confirm Moses was a true prophet after people stopped believing got in the devils traps and started worshiping idols Christians know the book of Moses and Jews to they know it was changed up that’s not gods book any more after all isn’t it.

  • The Jerusalem as whole was called the city of David, the land from the red sea to the river euphrates belong to the Israeli people, people who came in later cannot claim right to live here, everything belong to the Israeli people whom God gave the land, the learned scholar of Islam, from Kuwait acknowledged this, the solution is to deport the Palestinians to the Jordan, Syria, Egypt Saudi Arabia, Libya, the United nations should assist in this.

  • I understand that the whole conflict of this war is religion let the arab let the jew rebuild their ancient themple… The Muslims ve Mecca he Jews and Christians ve Jerusalem.. and you will see peace all over the world again.. I know the Muslims wouldn’t like Christians claiming Mecca.. It’s still surprised me how Mohamed ascended to heaven when we told he got poisoned ..

  • Al-aqsa Mosque must be ruled by muslims. 1.this area is the place which all prophets across.and it is only muslims who believe all prophets. 2. When muslim ruled this area they ruled peacfully.and let everyone pray here.but now day by day jews occupie all area and dont let muslims pray.every Ramadan we can see it.

  • This was so helpful to people like me who are perusal from far away. Trying to understand how they got to this place. It is very complicated, and has happened over years and years. I like that you stay neutral so we can understand both sides. I really like Sandra’s voice and her manner of presentation.

  • It is great to hear this explained in a short documentary. Sandra Gathmann’s voice is calm, clear, concerned but peaceful. A welcome change from other voices that attempt to convey the same story, but with emotional tones that are agitated or distorted by the deep and persistent traumas experienced by so many in the region.

  • The Israeli and Hamas conflict underscores the tragic consequences that can arise when religious differences lead to violence and division. In the pursuit of lasting peace, it’s essential to transcend religious divides and prioritize the well-being of all people, regardless of their beliefs. Embracing secular values, such as human rights, equality, and diplomacy, can pave the way for a more peaceful and inclusive future where conflicts are resolved through dialogue and cooperation rather than religious affiliations. Art, as a powerful medium, can guide our morality by fostering empathy, promoting tolerance, and inspiring us to envision a world where humanity’s shared values and aspirations unite us rather than divide us. Literature, in particular, has the unique ability to create open-minded perspectives by exposing us to diverse viewpoints, cultures, and ideas, which can ultimately lead to greater understanding and empathy among individuals and communities. Curiosity, not a belief in a deity, is the key to a fulfilling and meaningful life, driving us to explore, learn, and connect with the world around us in our shared human journey towards peace and enlightenment.

  • Viewers say it’s balanced presentation, but I see a story and a theory of one faith and slightly more about another. however it’s a good explanation on the current status and future. feel sorry for the people living in this region. “Becoming a slave of your own invention is the worst punishment for the humankind”.

  • Thank you Aljazeera and their newscasters. I knew a bit about the intersection of religions in that area of Jerusalem, explained but a friend of mine, but this article made it so much clear. I hope harmony among the three religions is truly restored since we must respect each other’s religions, beliefs and traditions. Please, peace and respect to everyone. Good job on this article documentary!

  • Learning of the current Gaza war has led me in need of much education. Finding your article at this time makes it even more vital to hear a complex issue presented clearly: you make sense of Jerusalem’s centrality to three major religions. But how is it possible that such steps, leading to the most egregious attacks on prayer in what should be a safe and respected religious site at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, should pass us by? And how is one surprised that one day an eruption occurs, when freedom to pray and work and be is near buried?

  • I must explicitly state that this is not a comment made in a disrespectful manner or with negative meaning, to anyone of any faith. Your faith is your personal and spiritual existence. I understand that and value it for the artistic and humanitarian values it has brought, whichever faith you may follow. I am simply intrigued, being of a more socio-economic orientation, that such persistent hostility and inter-generational trauma can be generated by ancient concepts with little relevance to life today.

  • Someone should please answer my curiosity. On this article they said prophet Mohammed made a night journey to the furthest mosque which is in Jerusalem. From articles that I’ve read, prophet Mohammed died 632 AD, but the first Muslim prayer house that was built on the complex was constructed around 640 AD. So which mosque was the Quran talking about?

  • Actually a nice explanation. Some facts are missing, but still good. I admit. The Israeli magav forces are not storming wirhout a reason or just for fun…. Al-Aqsa is actually not mentioned in the Quran – the far Mosque would actually have been in Istanbul and not Jerusalem. Israel became more religious in the past 30 years. Thats why temple mount gets more attention from the israeli people. In 1967 israel was much less religious – thats why the agreement with Jordan was made.

  • Sometimes, I always question myself “does isreal has no Remorse nor compassion after what happend to their kind in 1939?? And they do the same thing for almost 80 years now?” This is always a question that has not really an answer. Every single ramadan in Palestine it feels like Palestinians are afraid of their own holy month because they know whats going to happen. And its heartbreaking. It feels like a clockwork for the isreal militairy. I just hope Palestine keeps fighting of what has taken away from them. Not just their land but family and friends and citizens. Let this be a Historical evidence to hear their voices.

  • They conveniently forgot to mention that the 6 days war was started by the Arab nations surrounding Israel and was a surprise attack. The Arabs were defeated and Israel pushed it’s bordered out to grant them more distance between where potential artillery could be placed and Jerusalem. This is critical in understanding why Israel took possession of the West Bank and Gaza.

  • I don’t agree the conflict is not about the Al Aqsa mosque Muslim pray outside of the 🕌 facing Mecca and turning their backs to the rock where Mohammad was taken during a dream. It’s about pride and feeling powerful. Power gives sens of self to people, not the right way in my opinion to feel good but it is what it is.

  • So, she said it was the 3rd holiest site for Muslim, that means they have 2 more holy sites besides this third one. She said it’s the Jews number 1, most holy site. In fairness, why should one have 3 or more sites . It is unbelievable to me that people are not allowed to Pray on that site. Is there any common sense in this?

  • You need not fight. You only watch. Those nations who are against Israel, will fight each other, while Israel watches. Read> 2 Chronicles 20 He said, “Listen carefully, all (you people of) Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat. The Lord says this to you: ‘Be not afraid or dismayed at this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Go down against them tomorrow. Behold, they will come up by the ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the river valley, in front of the Wilderness of Jeruel. You need not fight in this battle; take your positions, stand and witness the salvation of the Lord who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.’” Amplified Bible (AMP) #,..,

  • From my perspective, sitting here in Seattle, it’s easy for me to feel confused when some Jews accuse some Palestinians of racism, considering the DNA research. The Palestinians probably share more genetic connection with the people who first carried the Arc of the Covenant than those who returned after the diaspora. I mean, if the person cited in this article is making a point, it’s not the one he probably thinks that he’s making.

  • Now understand. Until the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ. From 1948. Nobody could defeat Israel. Amos 9 :14-15 The Restoration of Israel 14 “Also I shall bring back the exiles of My people Israel, And they will rebuild the deserted and ruined cities and inhabit them: They will also plant vineyards and drink their wine, And make gardens and eat their fruit. 15 “I will also plant them on their land, And they shall never again be uprooted from their land Which I have given them,” Says the Lord your God. Zechariah 12 :3 Jerusalem to Be Attacked 3 And in that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will come and be gathered against it. The 1967 Six-Day War Israel defeated the Arab armies, gained territory four times its original size, and became the preeminent military power in the region. ()(),.,.,.,..,,.,.

  • It is incredible that the Jewish claim to the temple mount as a matter of history and heritage is barely even mentioned. What is even worse is that the Quran doesn’t mention Al-Aqsa as being in Jerusalem even more egregious is that this particular mosque was built long after the death of Muhammad. How he came to ascend to heaven from a mosque which was non-existent is just amazing, such delusions have lead to very unnecessary deaths😭😭😭

  • When there are two religions that focus on outer show during worship, instead of the inner relationship with God and conduct of oneself, such conflicts will always happen. I am glad that Jesus Christ came to teach us that what matters is in our hearts, it is about love for each other, and not just following the Old Testament law, and outer show during worship like the Pharisees did. As a Christian, I can stand and pray in that Temple and communicate with God, without anyone around me knowing that I did it. I hope that these two religions can seek peace, not revenge.

  • Typical of how Al Jazeera tries to manipulate truth. First, downplay the fact that the mosque was built on top of the temple. This is typical – in India we see several (estimates are 40,000 with a 3 prominently embroiled in legal battles) mosques built by followers of Islam on top of Hindu temples. Then Al Jazeera downplays that Arabs attacked Israel in 1967, and lost, which is why Israel ended up occupying that temple / mosque. Yes, we do know that Al Jazeera is owned by those who promote Islam. But they are terribly biased.

  • Jesus spread out the Jewish from Israel to all nations do to what they did to him 2023 years ago. Now they’re trying to reclaim it. Which is fine. Jesus said one day I will give you back your land. You will all return back to your land. However when you take possession of the land 100%, judgement day shell come. This is in the Bible.

  • That building is actually a byzantine christian church, (see a similarly designed ( floor plan building ) dedicated to Worship Mary that was destroyed), during its 11 renovations Muslim characters were placed on the outside but inside it is all about Jesus. Christian wrote the proto Quaran, a Saducees became a christian converted by the priest Gabriel, after some time they went to mecca and added to it and removed Jesus and placed Rasul or prophet. Muhamed is a title and was once conferred to as Jesus.

  • Watching this after the 7Oct2023 attack by Hamas. Hamas killed around 1000+ Israelis by rocket attacks and militant attacks. Hamas has taken some 100 hostages (Israeli + people of Russia, USA, China and other nations) back to Gaza. In retaliation the Israeli Airforce has bombed Hamas locations in Gaza. This has killed around 1500 innocent citizens in Gaza. Israel has cutoff food water electricity medicine supply to Gaza strip and blocked any way to leave Gaza. So Gaza people can’t leave the bombing area, can’t get any food, can’t leave because Isarel has shut any way for them to leave, even the crossing with Egypt has been stopped by Israel. So in short Gaza people will starve and die if they survive in hospitals and and not killed in Israeli Airstrikes also. Wow so humane. And Bravo to Hamas who is advising Gaza civilians to sacrifice themselves in Airstrikes by not leaving the houses which are bombed. Wow, stupidity and massacre on both sides. Amazing. West well done. Hamas well done, you have created doomsday for the Palestinians for which you say you are fighting. Isarel is also not clean. 75 years of occupation, tyranny and apartheid, and you expect nothing to happen, well you should understand that every bullet you shoot and every Palestinian blooddrop shed will increase the anger. The ending of the article emphasises how Israel slowly increased its occupation and tyranny on the Palestinians without any repercussions. Now after the attack you see the repercussions. The world can ignore things for their personal benefits, but the ones who are oppressed and don’t get any solution by political ways sometimes go to look for solutions by violence.

  • It is quite confusing, She admitted that Jews build the temple but then later She said Israel occupied Palestine’s territory in east Jerusalem, so it should be the territory of Israel since the beginning, right? So it means Jewish has released their land after 800 years of occupation by Muslim rulers but it’s not completely free since the Palestinians said the land belongs to them? In the end, she is just playing with the words and said Isreal occupied Palestine’s territory and doesn’t want to admit the sovereignty of Israel. The question is who occupies who since from the beginning the land belongs to the Jews and Isreal.😂😂😂

  • If you trace the source of freemasons to King Solomon, he had the power and ability to command other beings such as djinns to work for him and build magnificent buildings. Hence these djinns are known as the freemasons. Some of the most difficult stonemasonry structures especially in the medieval times were built by these same ‘freemasons’ because at the time would have been deemed impossible to be built by humans. After King Solomon’s death, the djinns who used to be under his control and especially the evil ones are now trying to use this Freemason society to deceive ppl by using an elaborate excuse to destroy the al-aqsa mosque and start building the third temple for the antichrist. The way they start to do this is by getting a way to establish the state of Israel (Star of David is a masonic symbol). Hence the ongoing genocide. Note that Zionism was formed out of freemasonry. Zionism is NOT Judaism.

  • Typical one sided propaganda by Al Jazeera. The Jews were slaughtered & forcibly removed from Jerusalem by the evil Romans; they didn’t just leave & tell everyone else to move in. It’s reassuring that we already know what the outcome is going to be while the whole world is so focused on 1 piece of land & trying to bring about peace. Can’t wait for that next major event that’s going to happen.

  • If this was CNN Fox or the News Agency owned by the antagonists you will see Fake News or a situation that was a a strategy to provoke Hamas. The mention of “Hamas’ has been drilled by these News agencies for decades to get the world to favour Israel and to ignore what Israel did for years and the US were enslaved by Israel for reasons that were kept hidden from the world.

  • I blame ” World Leaders ” throughout history and their expansionist ideals of subjugating their lesser developed neighbours because they have a superior military. They use false narratives to justify their agendas of expansionism and are prepared to commit genocide to achieve their goals. How easily they whip up national collective will and invade sovereign nations and impose their version of truth to the detriment of their neighbour’s identity, language, customs, etc. These agendas are varied, land grab, oil wealth, etc.

  • As an Indonesian muslim we all told by our oarents that this is ocupation from the start, so from the start 1948 till now and forever will alaways be supporting palestinian by our generation. We also build INDONESIAN HOSPITAL where no our goverment involve. Pure funding from muslim society. And were ready to defend al aqsa Insya Allah.

  • Now I understand the antisemitism sentiments of the past. Don’t get me wrong, I do not condone the holocaust. I simply understand that when a specific race thinks of themselves as superior than others and trifle on other people’s rights, of course you’d expect negative sentiments against that race. Palestine has been Palestine even before Israel was established. The Jews were immigrants settling in Palestine after WWI. They were just given the courtesy to move to Palestine bec of the holocaust. How would you feel if you help a friend in need and let him stay in your house, only to occupy your house and kick you out after a while?

  • You missed the bit about ‘the Arabs’ (Palestine, Egypt and Syria) tried to exterminate Israel in 1967. They lost and Israel took control of territory. There are consequences for starting a war, and there are consequences when you lose. 1000s of years of history this is the case, including WW1 and WW2. Ask Germany, Japan and Turkey. If you cant accept the consequences, dont start a war and try to exterminate another State. Israel has every right to occupy Palestinian territory. Anyway, Israel handed Gaza back in 2005 and by 2008 it was turned into a terrorist training camp. Here we are in 2023.

  • The Prophecy is that God will gather the 12 Tribes of Israel back to their Original Homeland promised to Patriarch Abraham and shown to Prophet Moses… and not by any Men (Zionist Jews) or any Nations (UK, USA, France, etc.) or any Agreement (Balfour Declaration of 1917 A.D.) will decide to put back the Jews to their Homeland… that will be the TASK of God through His Son Christ Jesus’ return… The Descendant (Israelite Jews, and not the Zionist Jews) of Abraham will become a NATION again after Christ Jesus’ return… Facts and Truth, Biblically speaking… Amen.
