Trump Slashed The Interior Department’S Budget?

President Trump has proposed a $12.8 billion fiscal year budget for the Department of the Interior, which is expected to lose $1.6 billion under his proposed budget. The budget would trim $1.5 billion or 12% from the current budget, which includes the National Park Service. Trump’s proposed budget would cut funding to the Department of Interior by 11.7 percent. The bill would provide $14.7 billion for the Interior, which is roughly what the department received in the comparable fiscal 2023 appropriation. There is steady funding for programs with strong environmental agencies.

The budget also seeks a 5.6% cut to the Energy Department and a 12% decrease for the Interior Department. It also slashes funding for Secretary of State Rex. The Interior Department would take a 14 cut under Trump’s proposed budget, including nearly a third to an agency that manages water and power. The budget would be cut by 13 percent, or $2 billion from the current year. Funds to acquire land for conservation would be eliminated.

The Trump administration is seeking to cut the Department of Agriculture’s discretionary budget by $3.5 billion, or 15%. The plan would cut the Commerce Department by 37%, the Education Department by 8%, the Energy Department by 8%, and the Department of the Interior. The budget proposes to eliminate funding introduced in 2016 for grants to Appalachian National Parks. The total budget, totaling $18 billion in current authority for the Department of the Interior, makes critical, targeted investments in the American environment.
