  • Not to rain on the parade here, but if the person (or couple) has any meaningful source of income other than SS, then 50% or in most cases 85% of SS income is taxable. As an e.g., I have a fed pension at $5k per month, and a private sector pension at $2k per month. My wife was a school teacher, and her State pension is $5k per month. Throw in two SS at about $2.5k per, and yeah….. We are far, far into the 85% taxable range on the SS being taxable. Somewhat separately; you can divide your 401k by 270; the end result is how much the bank will count toward your income as to qualifying DTI’s. E.g., if you have $540k in a 401k, this counts as $2k per month gross income toward the qualifying DTI’s.

  • I live in Georgia and my son and I want to co-borrow on a home purchase. I’m on social Security and my son social security disability and are renting. We are told that our rent will increase $100 & if we don’t sign a year lease we will be charged an additional $100 which makes our rent just under $1,000 in an unsafe neighborhood. We have enough fixed income to buy a small of our own in the country where will have a small yard and live in a neighborhood where you can go for a walk and be outside in. Safely.. Our problem is coming up with down payment and closing cost. Do you know of any help with we could get for these charges. I know this is a long question but we would be so grateful for any advice you could give us.

  • I’m loosing hope I am in the worst situation been in my home 14 years paying rent 1650 and I’m on ssi just as well work part time jobs I have a landlord who is new his brother original owner died a month ago he’s mean vicious very racist I’m dealing with him as he complains remind you my payments never ever have been delinquent I’m very stressed and upset I’m doing all the research I can to help me I’m really wanting my own house

  • When SSI is 751.00 per month is home ownership out of the question even if I were to obtain a part time job? This will Lao be an issue due to my health that lands me in the hospital every year for months at a time. I was guessing this will label me as unworthy of maintaining a job as well as being seen as someone who is not dedicated to their work due to the amount of time I would have to take off due to constant sugeries and hospital stays

  • Real Estate Stew, I just don’t understand most mortgage lenders only do loans for 100k house. So what lenders do I need to go to see if they can do under 100k? With the SSI being $794, They only going qualify me for 50k or 60k. Probably not even that much probably way less like 20k or 30k. Is there even houses going for that much?
