The Tesla Model Y is equipped with a cabin camera located above the rear view mirror, which can detect driver inattentiveness and provide audible alerts to remind drivers to keep their eyes on the road when Autopilot is engaged. The interior camera is integrated into the rearview mirror housing in most Tesla models, including the Model 3 and Model Y. In some earlier Tesla Models, like the Model S and Model X, the camera is mounted above the rear license plate.
The Model Y includes components that actively monitor the surrounding area, such as a camera mounted above the rear license plate and ultrasonic sensors (if equipped) in the front and rear bumpers. To view the live cabin camera feed, navigate to Controls > Service > Camera Preview. Tesla is marketing this new feature on YouTube as a way to keep an eye on your dog, “View the cabin camera from the Tesla app while using Dog Mode or Sentry Mode to keep an eye on your puppy 🐶”.

Nice presentation, Raj, but it perhaps leaves the impression that Tesla the company is perusal when I believe only the software in your car is perusal. No identifiable article (e.g VIN numbers) is ever transmitted to corporate without your express OK. So much paranoia, some justified; but I don’t think this is it.
How bout the camera was always there but not used until now……..bs they new this update was coming before they installed it. Creepy shit. Can it be turned off or do you just have to cover the damn thing with tape .I find all this audio and article recording of everyone all the time is weird and far reaching in the manner of privacy. Soon we will be in the Black Mirror episode of investigators coming to our home and wanting to hook up a device to our cortex so they can view what we have seen in the past.
Great article. Did you actually use the article captured from the outside cameras for your demonstration or just mounted cameras in those places because the quality was really good? Also I think it is an awesome idea for it to be monitoring the driver but they’re always will be somebody that disagrees with a privacy standpoint. But I’m all about safety.
Quick question….I thought this feature was only available on Model 3 and Y’s delivered after may 2021, which are the vehicles equipped with cameras and no radar? You mentioned you have radar but are not being used. Is this due to your beta testing software? I’m assuming no one with builds prior to May ’21 will have this feather available? Which seems odd.
This is why FSD is nothing more than a useless bit of tech. If you need to keep looking forward and keep your hands on the steering wheel then what is the point of it? You may as well operate the vehicle yourself as it is not like you are free to do anything else which is the whole point of FSD. I’ll certainly be waiting until you no longer need to be part of the equation before I spend the money required to get it.
Yeah, this has actually gotten annoying. I get the “safety is a top priority” issue, but the system has kicked me out of AP for no reason. …and there are so many flashing lights, audible tones, and the car telling me what to do, that it’s actually just easier to drive yourself a lot of the time. And, it just feels counterproductive that they’re saying how many times safer AP is than a human driver, but requiring more and more human attention: First just hands, now hands and eyes.
Usually you make great content but this contained some misinformation. Tesla is not always perusal, the release notes literally say that none of the attention monitoring article ever leaves the car. Furthermore, you have the option in the settings to even turn off crash articles from in-cabin articles from going to Tesla.
I get that Tesla has feature that attempt to make sure that people are monitoring the vehicle at all times for regulatory reasons. The thing is that no matter what they do some idiot is going to go out of his/her way to defeat the system. It’s like a person who uses a brick to hold the accelerator down (I guess they don’t understand what cruise control is.). There’s no way to criminal (yes criminal because if one is actively trying to defeat safety features then they are committing a crime.) proof a vehicle if the criminal is the least bit creative. Except for appeasing regulatory committees, this is a waste of time and resources. I’d rather that Tesla was able to only focus on getting FSD perfected so that the regulatory committees might start requiring cars have some form of autopilot even if the mandatory part is limited to collision avoidance only.
I understand the purpose of staying alert and connected when using these driving assistance programs in vehicles. But if I have to look forward and keep my hands on the wheel the whole time, it defeats the purpose using FSD. I want to be able to check emails, message, and do other things without the car bothering me every 10 seconds.
I used to be jealous of the early self-driving beta testers. I received my beta version on Christmas morning, and I had driven quite a few times now using it. I have to say, that after experiencing it myself, I must give high praise to all the early beta testers! I can now appreciate the level of competence required to put these versions thru their paces. It takes effort, concentration and diligence. Even the version we now have I can see that it requires acute attention so I can’t imagine what you all went thru in the first releases.
