How To Take Down The External B Pillar In Tahoe?

The B-pillar trim on a Cadillac Escalade Chevy Tahoe is easy to remove, with a 7mm bolt on the top left and a metal tab/clip on the bottom left. There are three tabs that tuck under the side window on the right. To remove the trim, you need to remove the inside window trim and the plastic cover around the door.

To replace the exterior B-pillar, you can follow these steps:

  1. Remove the lower trim from the inside of the B-pillar.
  2. Unsnap and remove the trim cover from the seat belt turning loop on the inside of the upper B-pillar.

For a 2015 Altitude, there is a dent in the drivers side rear B-pillar trim. To remove it, remove the bottom door sills front and back, pull out the weather strip from the bodyside pinchweld, and open the door. There should be screws on the backside of that molding. Pull back the weatherstripping on the inside to see them.

The covers are secured by a bolt at the bottom, and it is the middle or top that flaps. If you have any pointers or photos or videos, I would appreciate it. I have considered removing the pillar vinyl but have mixed feelings about doing so, as the vinyl protects the high touch area from scratches.

  • Friend you are lifesaver. I have 1 fall off the other day. Lucky it fell off in the driveway so I still have it but for the life of me I could not figure out how to reattach. I think I have a good idea now how it works. Going to give it a try with the OEM but if not, I will be picking up a pair from the shop you linked. Thanks for sharing the info.

  • I don’t recall the exact website that I purchased from but believe it was either @t or one of the reputable sites that has “GM” in the name. I searched for the part number that was stamped on the back of the OEM part and tracked down the latest part number from the website. Search for “Applique” on the parts website (e.g., gmpartsstore.com) and confirm your specific vehicle. Hope this helps.
