How To Remove The Kwikset Lock’S Inside Knob?

1. Locate the screws on the base of the doorknob and inspect the base for the screws securing it to the door.
2. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to unscrew the fasteners to detach the doorknob from the door.
3. Separate the knob halves by gently pulling apart the two halves to reveal the concealed mounting plate beneath.
4. Hold the handle in place and unscrew the set screw located on the interior side of the lock.
5. If there is a latch, use a 2mm or 2.5mm Allen to get the handle off, and then the cover plate pops off with a flat blade.
6. Loosen both screws on the inside of the knob mechanism by turning each screw about five or six full turns counterclockwise. Do not remove the screws; leaving them intact.

If you have an exterior lock set with a knob on the inside, you may need to replace the interior knob. The most common reasons for this issue are either a misaligned strike plate, jammed latch, or broken internal mechanism.

To remove the inside knobs, use a 2mm or 2.5mm Allen to get the handle off, and then pop the cover plate off with a flat blade. Rebuild the assembly on a table and check if the turning of the knob brings the latch inward.

If the knob clicks inside the lock, remove the SmarKey tool, remove the current key, and insert the new key you wish to use with the lock. Make sure to follow the instructions carefully to ensure proper installation and functionality.
