This tutorial demonstrates how to remove an exterior door’s hinges and reinstall it. The process involves removing the hinge pins, starting from the top hinge. To do this, first, grab the necessary tools, such as a flat-head screwdriver or pin punch, and a hammer. Open the door and carefully remove it. Lay the door on a flat surface and unscrew the hinges from the door. Place the hinges and screws in a safe place.
If you’re a beginner, double-check the steps and do things slowly. Protect the floor by sliding a piece of cardboard under the door before wrangleing the door free. Remove the door from the hinges by lifting slightly at the knob and under one of the hinges with the other hand. Knock out the hinge pins with a hammer and a screwdriver (or a center punch, nail set, or similar).
There should be a set screw in the middle of the hinge that can be loosen, and then pop the pins out. Start with the screwdriver and slide it under the top hinge pin. Pop the hinge pins out with the screwdriver in place.
Open the door support it underneath with shims and remove the screws from the jamb side. Once the door is free, remove the hinges from the door.
