This video provides a step-by-step guide on how to remove a door from its hinges and reinstall it. The traditional method of tapping and removing hinge pins is used, starting with the top hinge and then moving on to the others to ensure stability and alignment. A gentle tap with a hammer is applied to each pin, and the door is opened and closed several times.
To remove the hinges from an interior door, open it to expose the hinges and use folded cardboard under the bottom edge of the open door to keep them in place. It is important to have the right tools and knowledge to remove an old door from its hinges.
There are various reasons why you might need to take one of your internal doors off its hinges, such as installing carpet, stripping or installing new furniture. To remove the hinge pins, gently place the pointy end of a nail underneath each pin and knock the bottom of the nail with a hammer. Gradually, the nail should knock the hinge pin loose.
The easiest way to remove the hinge pins is to drive the door hinge pins out. Each hinge has a pin that can be driven straight up and out of the hinge. To remove the hinge pins, use a hammer, wedge, nail punch, or nail set to knock the pin out, and a screwdriver to further pry it once it’s partway out.
To begin, close the door and jam some cardboard underneath the door. Many hinges are painted over or have a clear sealant, so it’s essential to follow these steps carefully.

No tools except a paint can opener, scissors, and some hair pins, but with your instructions, I was able to mcguyver to get the door off and myself free in under an hour. It saved me the stress of figuring out who to call to extract me. Think I’ll be getting a tool bag with screwdrivers, small hammer and some grips etc to keep in key rooms in case this happens again You’re a life saver ❤
Is was very helpful!! I locked myself out of my basement cause the lock is on the inside key hole on the outside at the top of the steps and the key to unlock it was in the basement. So I had to take the door off the hinges it worked just as you showed in your article without damaging the door or the lock. So thank you very much!!!

I actually feel accomplished to see something I know. Thanks for sharing. It is chores like these that need to be addressed for some of us. Thank you for sharing.
