Corner framing techniques have evolved over time to address energy efficiency and reduce material waste. There are three main types of corner framing methods used in modern construction: corner stud wall framing, wall framing strategies, and wall-to-wall connections.
For interior corners, use drywall clips to form them by nailing or screwing them every 12 inches. This provides support without the need for additional drywall. Frame an interior wall corner by nailing an additional two-by-four on the back to provide an attachment surface for the drywall edge.
Several tools are needed to frame a wall corner, including a tape measure, carpenter’s square, level, power saw or hand saw, hammer, nail gun (optional), and chalk line. To frame a “4 Stud” wall corner, measure the shortest distance from floor to ceiling and cut all studs to that length, minus twice the 2X thickness and an extra 1/2″.
There are two ways of framing a “4 Stud” wall corner: one with blocks and the other with a full stud. Many builders will just use the blocks, as they are an essential skill for anyone involved in the construction and repair of homes and apartments.
