This article provides a step-by-step tutorial on how to repair a broken acrylic nail at home. It begins by cleaning the area around the break thoroughly and applying a bead of acrylic nail adhesive to one side of the broken nail. Once the adhesive has set, gently file the nail into your desired shape.
Another step is to prepare your natural nails for application. You will need to remove any old nail polish and clip your nails to a reasonable length. A clean break in your acrylics can still be repaired yourself by using nail glue or super glue to line the break on your nail and reattach the piece that broke off. Hold it firmly in place for at least 30 seconds.
If you have a clean break in your acrylics, you can still repair it yourself by taking nail glue (or super glue) and lining the break on your nail. Then, reattach the piece that broke off and hold it firmly in place for at least 30 seconds. Apply nail glue or super glue to the crack and let it dry, then apply as needed. If you use too much nail glue, it won’t bond well.
To fix a broken acrylic nail, you can get an at-home acrylic nail kit that includes everything you need to repair a broken acrylic. First, file down as much of the free edge as possible. If you’ve been keeping your nails extra short, the shorter the better.
In conclusion, fixing a broken acrylic nail at home is a simple and cost-effective solution to maintaining and repairing your nails. By following these steps, you can ensure that your nails are in good condition and that your nails look their best.

Hi Suzie! I love your website!! I was perusal this morning, got a call and now I can’t find it. You were with another person wearing Mickey Mouse ears and a Gucci sweatshirt. You had press on nails (not really) but I overheard they were made of acrylic and not plastic which really sounded cool. Can I please ask for the link to that article? Thank you!!
Smashed my finger and now have lost my entire pinky nail 😭 I had dip on my nails. Can you help me understand why this happened and how to never do this again?? Tried to catch fall plates and jammed my pinky right into one and lost the entire nail all the way from deep in my cuticle. I haven’t done this in over a decade or more. Did I have them too thick? Inaccurate stress points etc? Would love to supply info to help others. Sadly after researching this kind of “acrylic accident” is far too common Help me @Suzie 😓
SUZIE i have a article IDEA for you . Doing dip nails using craft glitter . I tried it my self and it works very well . I did my nails in the color of the 🌈 1.put a clear polish on your mail 2.dip your nail in to the glitter jar 3.wait it to dry 4.repeat the steps again until you cover the hole nail with clead 5.use super glue as a activator and put it in top off the glitter 6.use a drill to smooth out the serfes of the nail 7.let it dry and use a gel too coat to make it shine Hope you use it as an idea . And enjoy
You may have already considered or done this but doing a article on fresh short nail and showing how to do the powder/dip process and then in three weeks show us how to fill it in. Or do trash short nails and add polygel. Then in three weeks so us how to do a full. No tips added to either process. Probably these would be for newbies idk. But I would like to see it done with both systems.
This is GREAT to know! I have long natural nails, no credit to me (I credit heredity) and I had a near disaster yesterday. Something deep in the innards of my sewing machine jammed yesterday as I was sewing yet another fabric mask. Of course I used a fingernail to try and fix the problem instead of actually searching out a tool and I got my nail stuck! I managed to extract it but it was a close call; I forgot to take into account the fact that (working in a hospital) I have been washing and alcohol-ing my hands an insane amount! I’m going to start carrying Super Glue in my bag (and start actually using tools instead of my poor abused hands and nails)! PS I LOVE all your articles (and have a crush on Mr Cameraman, you’re so lucky to have him)!
Just Did My Nails Last Night ( PressOns ) 1 Accidentally Cracked While Getting My Daughter Ready Lmao 😂 So I Came Here & I’m Like Great I Can Just Add The Glue I Used ! So Used A Bit Of My Súper Glue ( For Nails 💅) Praying 🙏🏼 They Stay Strong Till After Next Weekend Cuz They’ve Never Cracked On Me lol! Loved Your article ! 👍 💗
I’ve been perusal you regularly because, well, I do my own gels, and I need alllll the help I can get! I’m licensed to do nails, but that doesn’t mean I should do them😂.. plus I’m disabled anyway. One of my conditions causes my nails to be very, very thin and fragile due to malabsorption of nutrients. Hence the gel. I found builder gel especially helpful as my nails got worse. I have an E-file, and I tore up my cuticles until I got decent bits for it. Really, I just want to thank you and Camera Man for continuing to upload articles like this one💜
Hi Suzie! I love your articles. I’ve been looking into purchasing better brushes for my nail art and did some research on the Kolinsky brushes. I noticed Max Estrada said he didn’t know what the kolinsky brush type meant in one of your articles. I didn’t either so I did a lot of web reading! It seems at some point both Canada and the US actually banned Kolinsky fur brushes. Do you have any suggestions for other types of brushes that will work just as well for acrylic nail creation? This website (and others) suggested a few, but I thought you may have a preference. The Koilinsky is currently at the Least Concern level on the Endangered Species list as they are doing well in Siberia, but they are difficult to maintain in captivity. Thanks for your help!!
Hey Suzie. Newly subscriber, really enjoy perusal yr articles. You really know how to show people and explain alot. So inspiring to watch you. I do have a question, in regards to hybrid/polygel for a full covered tip. Can any full covered tip be used with hybrid gel or does it need to be a soft shelled full covered tip. I did leave a comment on one of the articles you did in regards to it. Look forward to seeing a reply back about it. Thank you. Stay safe and well. 💟 from nz
I pulled out my old efile and found I needed to buy a new one. I bought the MelodySusie, I think the Scarlet?? It was the machine they sent you after you did the multiple machine reviews, showing you the better model, and you did the entire vid on that machine. I turned it on and it was like I never put it away a long time ago. Now to re-acquaint myself with the acrylic. I am really happy with the new machine. Thank you for sharing it with us. Im happy to find my skills have not totally vanished. I hope you, Cameraman and your family are staying safe. ❤️❤️ from Toronto. If I ever get to your area, After covid is over, me & my friend will take your courses. I will definitely have to book an appointment for a mani pedi as well ☺️ Stay safe ❤️
That’s not going to hold for more than a few minutes. Once u start doing things, that nail will break right in what we used to call “the quick”. And, it will hurt like hell!! Can u please do a article on how to strengthen and maintain natural nails? I have decided that I no longer will be doing my favorite pink and white gels. I love my French manicure, that’s all I used to wear. Then, my nails, as usual, would be in terrible shape when I took them off. It would take 3-6 months to stop the peeling, splitting and cracking!! Please give us a detailed article on how to keep natural nails (longer than your daughters), flexible but strong
I loove those short on point articles usually i don’t have much time (for the one who will say now you have all the time i still don’t i still go to work) to wach a 20min article on nail tutorials (even though i wish i could) but these articles are amazing have all the information that we need and it is short much love and thank you❤
My nail has broken across like yours but it’s a clean crack near the base of my nail. My acrylic nail cracked and is attached to my real nail (My nail won’t come off as it’s stuck to the skin under my nail making it painful to move) which has cracked with it. It’s really painful so I’ve bandaged it up with tissue and tape to not catch it. What do you recommend I do I’m really worried?😓
I know this does not pertain to this article .. but, my nails are naturally curved they grow straight out without the bend down.. I can not wear any type of false nails with out being in pain in the tips of my fingers.. I tried the gel polish nails it hurt for one day, lasted about one week till I had to have my fill-in done did the fill-in and again lasted about a week till I had to do it again … So I just had them take it off .. now two years later my pinky and ring finger on both my hands the nail bed is receding and the skin under the nail just flakes off and peels … Can you please help me to solve said problem.. I have took a oral fungus med for it and nothing … Still there .. ???
This happened to 1 of my natural nails… I took a CLEAN tea bag and cut it and glued it down… Then today I felt my hair catching in another nail, got my tea bag out cut it again and glued that down… So I’m trying to be care, so they can hold on for a week or two and then see what happens… love your articles too…🥰🥰🥰
I was doing my nails and on one hand I had removed the previous color and lifting so only half my nail plate had acrylic and I had to go out. I snapped the nail in half and it started bleeding🥴 I had to drill the acrylic off the broken part, blood was splashing and aften I cut at much nail as I could, I glued the crack with gel😂 I know it’s wrong but if I didn’t glue it then it would move and hurt
Mine did that the other day except mine did snap my natural nail and omg it hurt so I did something I never wanted to do. After 2 years of nice acrylic nails I just cut them off .Now I have little nubs for nails i hate it but we still have at least 3 weeks maybe more before salons will reopen and my nails were at 5 weeks of grow out already I just couldn’t deal with it any more.i just cut the tips and left the nail bed area alone.
Suzie I need your help. I smashed my thumb in the car door. My nail is broken mid plate and lifting from the top. My natural nail. It’s been okay for about 2 months. I was hoping it would hold until it finished growing out. Unfortunately it’s just reached the skin your talking about in this article and the nail is so weak that my nail is constantly straining with the slightest pressure. I’m trying to figure out how to fix it but it’s peeling forward from the thumb joint end towards the tip. Idk how to fix it. Help, please!
First 3 week of quarantine, I broke 3 of my long natural nails, barely held by the remains of my last dip powder set. Had to eventually cut them short bc I couldn’t handle the stress of accidentally hitting it and breaking more, plus the PAIN when it’s a middle of the nail bed break. It’s been a month and Im still waiting to grow out a slight break and the nail glue is the only thing saving me from the pain.😫
I love you Susie, BUT…..lady you have no excuse for grown out acrylics, lol. We just know you must have a ‘nail room’ at home that you can fix your nails in. I do appreciate you sacrificing your normally impeccable nails during this pandemic to show us how we can cope until the salons are back open, thank you.
