How To Clean The Outside Of An Airstream?

The Airstream Travel Trailer User Guide provides a comprehensive guide on exterior cleaning for your travel trailer. It emphasizes the importance of regular maintenance, such as washing your trailer every four weeks and waxing it with Walbernize Super Seal or high-quality clear coat-safe wax in the spring and fall. Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial to protect and enhance your Airstream’s longevity and reliability.

The guide includes detailed steps for cleaning both inside and outside the trailer, including inspecting for damage, cleaning debris, dust, dirt, and pest traps, and cleaning interior spaces like flooring, kitchen, lavatory, and bedding. After rinsing and cleaning, a mild soap and water solution should be used with a microfiber sponge, hand mitt, or soft bristled bush to fully clean the exterior.

Airstream recommends using a mild auto detergent safe for clear coated surfaces, which can be found in various options. To clean floors, start with a good sweep with a broom or Swiffer, then use warm, soapy water to disinfect and clean the floors. Rinse the cleaning tool frequently and brush lightly.

To clean the interior, create a vinegar and water mixture by mixing 2 parts water to one part vinegar and spraying down the exterior. For an effective wash, mix one ounce of marine/auto wash into one gallon of water and spread it.

For the easiest way to wash your Airstream, consider taking it to a truck wash that uses soft brushes and appropriate cleaning products. This will help maintain the longevity and reliability of your Airstream travel trailer.

Can I clean the outside of my camper with vinegar?

A general cleaner is a simple solution that can be used to remove dirt and debris from the outside and inside of your RV. To create a general cleaner, mix 3 parts water and 1 part white vinegar, add baking soda for added cleaning power, and add citrus or essential oil for a pleasant scent. For example, six cups of water and two cups of white vinegar would be a good starting point. The vinegar is essential for effectively eliminating mildew and mold growth in specific areas. Wet the RV, wipe it down with this solution, and then spray it off with fresh water.

For specialty cleaning solutions, mix up a few other jars of cleaner to address other areas of the rig. Two ideas are provided for most RV owners:

  1. Clean the interior of the RV with a mild soap and water solution, then rinse it off with fresh water.
  2. Use a combination of these cleaners to effectively clean your RV.

Is it okay to pressure wash an Airstream?

Pressure washing is a potentially hazardous process that requires the use of appropriate business attire. This is due to the fact that pressure washers have the capacity to cause significant damage and positive effects on the environment.

How to clean Airstream exterior with vinegar?

To clean aluminum exteriors, a solution of vinegar and water should be prepared and applied with a soft cloth. Subsequently, steps 2 and 3 should be repeated with the addition of ArmorAll and water. The surface should then be towel-dried. It is inadvisable to utilise a scrub brush, as this may cause damage to the aluminium surface. It is imperative to remove the vinegar in its entirety to prevent corrosion. To maintain a high level of lustre on your domestic premises, it is recommended that a buffing process be carried out after each use.

Keeping your RV’s exterior clean and free from damage is crucial for its longevity. The exterior protects against leaks, drafts, and excess heat, allowing you to camp comfortably. However, commercial cleaners and tools can be too harsh and rough for RV exteriors, damaging the finish, drying out seals, and leaving scratches. To maintain the exterior, use gentle automotive or RV cleaner or soap and water.

These simple considerations can help keep your rig sparkling and looking good through many camping seasons. By following these steps, you can extend the life of your RV and enjoy comfortable camping trips for years to come.

To maintain your RV’s appearance and value over time, avoid using harsh chemicals, household cleaners, abrasive scrubbing materials, and unverified DIY mixes. Opt for RV-specific cleaning solutions formulated to clean without causing harm, and avoid using household cleaners that may strip away protective coatings and leave residue behind. Use soft, non-abrasive materials specifically designed for RV wash, and avoid using homemade cleaning concoctions with acidic ingredients like vinegar or lemon juice.

Look for cleaning products labeled as safe for RV use, formulated to clean effectively without compromising the RV’s exterior. Read product labels carefully and follow manufacturers’ guidelines to ensure you’re using the right cleaning agents. Properly preparing the surface of your RV before washing is crucial to avoid compromising the effectiveness of the cleaning process and potentially causing damage to the vehicle.

In summary, choosing the right cleaning products and avoiding common mistakes can help maintain your RV’s appearance and value over time.

What is the best polish for an Airstream?

After removing the clear coat, polishing Airstreams begins with Nuvite, a popular product with seven different grades used to remove oxidation and scratches. Most people only use three or four grades, but many would take more time than they had. To save time, they researched Gord’s Aluminum Polish, which is applied in a thin layer and polished off with a rotary polisher. This product takes a fraction of the time and works a fraction as well.

Gord’s is equivalent to the first or two grades of Nuvite, but it leaves unsightly swirl marks and doesn’t achieve the same shine as a polished Airstream. The final polish grade, which removes swirl marks and increases shine, is missing.

The first polishing took place in May 2012, but by winter 2016, the aluminum had started to develop oxidation, water spots, and scratches. Despite looking great from afar and in photos, the aluminum was in a sad state up close. The first round of polishing took place in May 2012, and the second round was needed in winter 2016.

To clean an RV, use a soft-bristle brush, warm water, mild RV-specific soap, a spray nozzle, and microfiber towels. Scrub tough spots with a slightly abrasive sponge or a specialty cleaner for RV exteriors. Rinse each section with the hose to remove soap and loose dirt, ensuring the soap doesn’t dry on the surface. Dry the RV thoroughly with microfiber towels to prevent water spots and streaks, and identify areas needing touch-ups. Be cautious not to apply too much pressure, as excessive pressure can damage the surface.

To clean your Airstream RV’s interior walls, use sanitizing products like countertops and polish with Pledge and a microfiber cloth. Work with the grain and avoid up-and-down strokes to avoid scratching the surface. If your RV has ultra-suede fabric, baby wipes can be used to keep them clean, but be careful not to saturate the fabric and let it air dry. Dispose of wipes in the trash, never in the toilet. Start with a good sweep and use warm, soapy water to disinfect and clean the floors. These floors are low maintenance and stay looking great, similar to those found on boats or yachts.

How do you remove rust from an Airstream?

Rust on an RV can be treated quickly by scraping off the rust with a wire brush or sandpaper, then cleaning the area and applying a coat of corrosion protectant or rust-resistant paint. This technique works best on light surface rust. If the rust penetrates deep into the frame or individual components, it’s crucial to call a professional RV mechanic. Deep-seated corrosion can compromise the performance and safety of an RV, so it’s essential to address it immediately.

Preventing rust on an RV is crucial. Keep the undercarriage clean, as salt in coastal areas or winter roads can eat away at the bottom of the rig. Regularly rinse the undercarriage and keep it as dry as possible. Interior components are also susceptible to rust, so ensure your RV is ventilated to prevent condensation.

  • Can Walbernize Super Seal be used on all exterior surfaces of the Airstream? What about windows, plastic parts and rubber trim? If so, does it affect how or when Aerospace Protectant must be used on gaskets? Thanks in advance for clarification on these points and for recording this helpful how-to article.

  • I mixed 1 ounce of #43 with 1 gallon of water and then utilizig the soap dispenser on my 2000 PSI electric pressure washer with a black tip siphoned the mixture from the dispenser. I didn’t get nearly the suds as shown in the article. Where did I go wrong? I also noticed that in this article going with the grain is recommended but they have another article using a circular motion. For cars I always use a circular motion when detailing – is circular OK?
