To fasten PVC trim to the wall, ensure the product is dry and clean when fastened to the wall. Use fasteners designed for exterior trim and siding, with 2 fasteners per every framing member and 3 fasteners for all 12″ wide boards. Fasteners should be installed every 24″ OC or less, and for best results, place fasteners within 2″ of the edge of each board.
For optimal results, plan for expansion, use the correct adhesives, and use long-lasting fasteners. PVC trim can be cut, shaped, and aesthetically pleasing as wood trim without all the disadvantages. To set you up for success, follow these tips:
Cut the first piece of trim to fall just short of a stud so that the second overlapping trim piece can be fastened to the stud an inch or so from the end. If using pneumatic tools, regulate air pressure so fasteners slightly penetrate the surface.
Fasten PVC trim to your framing using corrosion-resistant nails or screws with a minimum length of 1.5 inches, blunt point, and full round head. There are also exterior PVC trim options such as soffits, fascias, and rakes.
Install materials at least 6 in. to 8 in. off the ground, keeping it at least 2 in. off decks and roofs. Check the moisture content of dimensional trim before installing.
Slide the trim assembly over the window frame, evenly splitting the reveal gap. Install 2-3/4″ Cortex hidden fasteners every 16-20 inches apart. Place fasteners approximately every 16″ at both edges of the trim, with spacing ½” from the edges. If your trim is 10″ or wider, add one more.
