How To Alter The Inside Lines Of A Table In Indesign?

To change the table border, interior vertical and/or horizontal lines in InDesign, click on Table > Table Options. The border command is under Table Setup, while the interior line controls are found in the Row Strokes and Column Strokes tabs. Use the Table Options dialog box to change the stroke of the table border, add alternating strokes and fills to columns and rows, and change the strokes and fills of individual cells or header/footer.

For formatting tables within InDesign, use the Control panel or Character panel to format text within a table, just like formatting text outside a table. To target table strokes to change their formatting using the table stroke proxy in InDesign’s Control panel, follow these steps:

  1. Select the footer row in the table proxy.
  2. Double-click inside of a cell to switch to the type tool.
  3. Choose Table > Cell Options > Strokes And Fills.
  4. In the proxy preview area, specify which lines will be affected by stroke changes. For example, if you want to add a heavy stroke to the outside lines but not to the inside lines of the selected cells, click an inside line to deselect it.
  5. Highlight the table and choose Table > Cell Options > Strokes and Fills from the menu.
  6. Go to the Table menu and choose Table Options and then Table Setup.

In summary, InDesign allows users to customize table fills and strokes, change the table border, and format tables using various tools and settings. By following these steps, users can create visually appealing and functional tables within their designs.

  • Hi Amy. How do you make cells carry over to the next page? (the table has cells with long texts, and it came from MS Word). its been bugging me for 2 days now. After placing the table from word to ind, the cells just disappear. Extending the place holder will reveal the missing cells but they are beyond the printable page. How can i make them continue over to the next page?
