Just an observation – the kit you used is an extruded aluminum track, which I’ve had great success with. The one linked in the article description is a formed steel track which (personal opinion) is not as good. Also, I can mail ordered extruded aluminum track up to 106″ for wider openings whereas the steel track seems to stop at 72″. Good job as usual!

If you would be so kind to answer. I have bypass doors installed in 1964. The wheel is just on a post that is inserted into the top of the door. Do you know what it is called. Ive found hardware for bifold doors but none say bypass. They are old heavy mirror doors if that makes a difference. I love how this is step by step. I am hoping i dont have to replace my doors, but i know what article i will watch if i need to. Thanks, Diana
Thank you for this instructional article. I’m getting ready to convert my double bi-fold doors into bypass sliding doors. This article was what I needed. Can you tell me, please, if there will be a gap (or space) inbetween the front door and the back door. The reason I’m asking, is I will be using a quarter inch think poplar board as a mending plate for each of the bi-fold doors, making them into four solid doors. I want to know if the thickness of the mending plate will interfere with sliding the doors back and forth. Please let me know. I may have to re-think my idea to mend the doors together. Thank you.
huh wow those doors are so simple in idea, idk why i thought it would be more complicated than just “they hang” lol. my closet is like 8 feet wide w/bifold but tbh i like it that way (though oh my GOD my entire life i cannot get the right door to be level and straight with the wall because i think my dad f-ed up the hole in the base when i was younger lol)
