Left-hand doors have hinges on the left side and swing inward towards the left, while right-hand doors have hinges on the right side and swing inward towards the right. This knowledge is important when ordering or installing doors to ensure proper functionality. To determine the hinge position on a door, stand with your back to the jamb that has the hinges. If the door is hinged on the left, it is a left-handed door. If your left hand is nearer the doorknob, then the door is left-handed. If your right hand is closest to the doorknob, then it is a right-handed door.
When installing a new door and jamb in a rough, if your left hand is closest, it is a left-handed door. If your right hand is closest to the doorknob, it is a right-handed door. To determine the direction of the door, extend your arms horizontally and sweep your left or right hand in the direction of the door swing. Install left-handed door levers on left-handed doors, and right-handed door levers on right-handed doors.
Left-hand reverse doors have hinges on the left side and open by standing with your back against the hinge jamb. If your left hand is nearer the doorknob, the door is left-handed. If your right hand is nearer the doorknob, it is right-handed. For outswing doors, if the hinges are on the left-hand side, you have a Right Hand Outswing door. If your right hand mimics the way the door swings, you have a Right-Handed door. When placing an order for a door, it is important to note that if the door is hinged on the left, it is a LH, and if it is hinged on the right, it is a RH. Dummy levers are typically used on double doors.

I do not know where are you from, but in Europe we describe doors the opposite way. You stay in front of the doors to see hinges. To open the doors you must pull them. The location of hinges describe the door type. If hinges are on the left, the doors are Left Hand, if hinges are on the right, then you have RH doors. So at 0:53 doors in Europe would be left hand (LH).
3280 is not 80″ high a 3280 is a 3’2″ wide by 8’0″ tall The door your refering to is a 2868. The numbers don’t mean inches. If the door is 2’8″Wide x6’8″Height it’s a 2868 door. Which is 80″ overall height. Common mistake because most doors are either 6’8″ (80″) or 8’0″ (96″) People confuse 8′ with 80″ all the time
You are 100% wrong buddy, think of the words RHS “right hand swing” doesn’t matter which side you’re on.!go to the door, open it up, go through and close it. Open up the door again go through and close it. which hand did you use? RIGHT HAND. I was the general contractor for 40 years basically for homebuilding. You have a right hand, swing door in your article. But I do warn people. Someplaces selling doors get it wrong too so when you’re ordering a door, just tell him what side do you want the hinges on and that will clear it up
Thanks for the article. Overall I found it helpful. How you explained it when standing on the hinge side was great. When you were explaining it on the other side, I like how you explained it by putting your back to it. You had a comment after that which was confusing and seemed to contradict itself. Again, thanks for the article. Overall it was great.
No. Stand on the inside of room is right swing . now same side but but hinge are out side of room, that is considered a reverse right Now if you are still stand in the room hinge are on the right that is a left swinging door, same side but on the hinges are on the outside of room, that is considered a reverse left
I was looking for a song and found this, but I’ve never had a problem with putting the door on the wrong side… we had to take all the doors out of the house and we just placed them randomly inside the living room. Either I really got lucky and matched all 20 doors inside the house the exact same place they were supposed to be or it doesn’t matter which way the door goes on… so which is it? The only thing I had to do was re-drill holes for the hinges… does it even matter which side the door goes on? I know sometimes you would prefer the door to open into the room or sometimes you would prefer for it to go out into the hallway, but does it really matter? If you were to buy the “wrong” door, couldn’t you technically just put it on the other side and screw it in like normal? What’s so different about the other side that makes it where you can’t do that? And if it doesn’t matter then what was the point of the article?
you MUST grab the knuckle first, and spread your feet as if you are being searched by the police. otherwise there is no way you can advance to the next step. What if there is no knuckle? Or you cant reach, or, you only have one arm, or the cop (if he really is there) finds weed on you, then you are arrested and cannot proceed to the next step. hmmm. these must be considered. Actually, placing your back to the hinge, and which way it opens sounds like the best approach.
