Are Renovation Services Offered By Kitchen Showrooms?

Michael Menn, an architect, homebuilder, and home remodeler from Northbrook, Illinois, believes that the biggest mistake homeowners make during a kitchen renovation is not planning properly. Contemporary, farmhouse, and midcentury modern are the most popular kitchen design styles for a remodel. When choosing a professional, consider your project’s scope, budget, and personal design needs. A certified kitchen designer might be ideal for a project like this.

When remodeling a kitchen from scratch, bring the outdoors in by following an easy-to-follow checklist that breaks down important considerations into simple steps. Kitchen and bathroom showrooms provide a tactile and visual experience that online images and brochures can’t provide. They offer solutions for most common remodeling projects, such as kitchen design, custom cabinets and countertops, sinks, backsplashes, and more.

Remodeling showrooms also offer trend showcases, featuring the latest design trends and innovations. Customers can see firsthand how contemporary kitchens look. Kitchen showrooms are an invaluable resource for homeowners planning to remodel their kitchens, providing a better idea of what styles, features, and products they need for a renovation project.

When planning to remodel your kitchen, it is vital to analyze all your alternatives and visit a kitchen showroom to ensure a successful outcome.

What is a realistic budget for a kitchen remodel?

To maximize the return on your investment in a kitchen renovation, it is recommended to spend between 5 to 15 percent of your home’s value. For example, if your home is $300, 000, your budget should fall between $15, 000 and $45, 000. If you plan to hire a contractor and opt for high-end appliances, allocate your budget for the top of the range. If you plan to do the renovation yourself and use inexpensive materials, allocate your budget for the lower end.

Allocate your budget to each remodeling aspect and divide it among these categories. Factor in at least 17 labor costs when working with a contractor. The expenses of a kitchen remodel are listed in order of highest to lowest price, based on figures from the National Kitchen and Bath Association.

What I wish I knew before remodeling my kitchen?

Kitchen remodels can be a costly and time-consuming process, with steep price tags, decisions to be made, and mistakes that can go unnoticed. Interior designers advise that a successful remodel should be done thoughtfully, with research, prioritization, and self-reflection being critical to a favorable outcome.

Function must come first when starting a kitchen remodel. Designers like Mark Williams and Niki Papadopoulos emphasize the importance of considering how the kitchen is used, workflow, appliance needs, and accessibility to utilities. They suggest that the form should follow the function, and once the layout is designed, the aesthetics should follow.

It is essential to order ahead, save space for doors, prepare for the interim, and hire a professional if necessary. By doing so, a successful kitchen remodel can result in the kitchen of your dreams.

Why is kitchen remodeling so expensive?

Kitchen remodeling is expensive due to essential work like plumbing, electrical, and framing, which account for about a third of the budget. The rest goes towards finishes and installation. Key upgrades that increase kitchen value include adding a kitchen island, updating cabinets, upgrading appliances, replacing countertops, and creating multipurpose work areas. Spending more than 10 to 15 percent of a home’s value on a single room is considered excessive, such as $15, 000 for a kitchen or bathroom remodel.

Should you renovate kitchen before selling?

The decision to renovate or list a home as-is depends on factors such as the kitchen’s condition, budget, timeline, and local market preferences. For some sellers, a full renovation may be financially challenging, but a company that covers the cost or light updates may be more prudent. In other cases, if the kitchen is outdated, some remodeling may be necessary to stay competitive. To maximize your home’s value and appeal to potential buyers, it’s essential to approach the process with open eyes, professional expertise, and a calculated decision.

  • This is one of the best Ikea kitchen articles I’ve seen. My Ikea kitchen is currently being installed and like you, I chose Ikea, not only for price, but for all of the different cabinet combinations and their drawer organisers. My new kitchen is probably 90% drawers – its the way forward! Thanks again for this 👌👏😻

  • My ikea kitchen was completed last summer 2021. For 3 months we got sick of Ikea bc we were always at the store. Mind you, the pandemic affected the supply chain. Also, we were adjusting our plan/design along the way. BUT I can confirm Ikea’s kitchen line is sturdy. We went with all drawers and maximized the use of hidden drawers. My husband wanted the least amount of “lines” and so we opted for hidden drawers. Another thing is that we made use of every inch of our space and planned it so well we had no “dead” panels. It looks like a custom designed kitchen which is the best part of using Ikea.

  • Raeanne, loved your article! I know it’s referencing your old kitchen but for your new kitchen you might want to consider different ventilation with the stove top. It’s not recommended in islands because you normally can only downvent which isn’t the best. It seems like a small thing but now more than ever we spend a lot of time in our homes and there are a lot of studies out about how we (Americans) have poor ventilation in our homes which may be ruining our health. Sorry for the random tidbit but you were so nice and added great value for us for our IKEA kitchen! Take care !

  • We are planning to purchase an IKEA kitchen. We’re deciding on which cabinet style. Do you know which cabinet style is the easiest to wipe clean? I had heard that the Bodbyn is easier to clean than the Axstad. Would love to know your insight on this. Thank you for this wonderful article. We loved it. 😊♥️

  • Raeanne, 🙌🏼👏🏼 This is amazing! Honestly you could work run the Corporate office at IKEA. They should sponsor you in your new house. This article completely sold me on their kitchen and all of the options they offer. I got some inspo from all the showrooms and options you highlighted. I don’t have the budget to redo my kitchen but definitely making some changes where possible. In your experience have you purchased any items from IKEA that wasn’t up to standards? I like their decor, textiles and some furniture but I’ve had some fails. For that reason I never considered them for a full kitchen install until now. Btw, in my next house whenever that is, I’ll have to binge your articles. You gave some amazing tips 😊

  • I like your design. However, when you narrate your kitchen design, I really want to see the kitchen with your voice. We have seen your face during the introduction so I believe after that showing your kitchen is very important. Of course, you have a beautiful face. But to understand your explanation better, please show your kitchen more.
