  • I used Angi’s for 2 years and they kept me pretty busy with work. I won’t say it doesn’t work, but you’ve gotta spend money to make money. At the end they started raising their prices just a little too high for me. I was paying about $1600-$1800 a month. Keep in mind I was making about $10k a month so it was worth it. However, I’m going to take the step away from them this year and build up my presence on Google. I think I’ll use google ads and FB ads.

  • I started with Home Advisor 9 years ago. I have 72 reviews with a 4.9 Star rating. Originally I paid $20/lead and booked an appointment with 95% of leads that came through. Probably closed 30-35% of them. Now I pay $65/lead and book an appointment with 30% of the leads and close maybe 15% of them. I’ve caught them recycling old leads and using misleading web pages to generate leads that confuse customers. Started as a legitimate business but now it’s nothing but a scam. Moved on to Google ads and SEO to generate new leads. My average cost/lead is now $40 and my close rate is 40-50%. Also the rates I can charge are much higher that with Angi’s List, as the customer is calling my business intentionally rather than having their information passed around.

  • Cancelled ours due to trash leads. Everything from bogus phone numbers, no call backs, work already completed, and just tire kicking. They often refused to refund / credit the bad lead and even try to negotiate how much of the credit they will give back. Only about 2 out of every 10 leads panned out and the leads were expensive. So, on small jobs with low profit margins, one could work a job or two for free just to pay for the bad leads they refuse to reimburse.

  • I agree one 100% I charge $200 and than had to go thru a lot to cancel. Learn Facebook ads I was paying $3 per lead with about 75% conversion rate. I had about 20 Customers that I got from running Facebook ads in my area. So That’s a no brainer if I’m paying $3 per lead and land a $350 jobs I’ll take that all day long.

  • Man so i got on with them for that one year membership deal and so far every single lead (just 3 so far) have been flakey as hell man i cant just give people prices i need to see what needs to be done so i can give a price no one seems to understand English or just totally ignores the question or just stops talking to me after i give a price i tell them i can work on the price with them and everything i mean fuck i am dealing with children here?????

  • For any contractor who might be thinking about water they should jump into paid ads or stay with Angi/HomeAdvisor, I can tell you it’s definitely a great decision to make the change, not only you’ll be paying for leads, but you’ll be winning on authority and online presence, which will allow you to be seen by more people, giving you more opportunities to sell on them, and also (if done correctly), have way better margins. (Not counting the amounts of new followers and reviews and leverage you can get from it. Definitely a GO TO!

  • I agree with this guy in the article. I am in Arizona. I very very unhappy with Angi’s. They sent the leads to too many people. They charge from $35.00 to $100.00 to every company they send the leads. Some of the leads are not from people are fake. They charge you automatically and if you want your money back they give you credit. You are force to stay with them because you have the credit and they don’t give you the money. They charge you automatically for membership about $275.00, if you want two days later cancel, they don’t refund your money. They do it so you stay with because you want to get some for your money. I decided to still cancel because I don’t want to deal with again.

  • I’ve been working with home advisor since they started and I had the grandfather deal which was $49.99 a month but Angies list bought Homeadvisor and then canceled all the grandfather clients including myself. They charged us $49.99 on October/2/2022 and canceled us on the 5th to the point we couldn’t use the app for the last month we got changed for. I feel like I just got stepped on and ripped off. No one has made a article on this messed up subject. Can you please help us by making a article about this? By the way everyone on the grandfather deal are the ones who put home advisor on the map. Our high rating on the reviews from home owners made Homeadvisor into what it is today.

  • location is a big factor in any business big or small anyone with half a brain knows this except this dude, it’s pointless to make a review on something like angis knowing that location is the biggest factor to making any kinda money, my opinion is don’t waste your time perusal these mixed review articles and just get out there and make some damn money

  • Agreed Tried A Lot Of Companies Name Left Alone. And both jobs I paid for $22 were one who was looking to not pay and wanted service for free. He wanted a super great deal and when I gave it to him he wanted to look over the obvious no checks and it was a deposit focused job. So he ended up not happening and just wanted me to do all the work for free lol. Yeah right buddy. Then I had another which was successful but the person again wanted a great deal. It cost a lot to be on Angi’s and I have now had such horrible experience’s with these paid leads. I’m far from over them. And the idea was told to me you can get 30% on Angi list because you are reputable and have all the T’s crossed and I’s dotted. But for the cost at that point my word of mouth will be gold so explain the gain at the price? And on the last job for labor and time the loss equated to over 20% of the job. Yeah no lead is worth that for my service type of work that already is not a service people want but need.

  • Almost everything he said was wrong !! Angie’s is a rip off, their “good leads outway the bad leads” montra is validation for their deception. The amount they charge is based on the amount left in your “spend limit”, if its the end of the month and you have say 52 dollars left to meet your limit, guess how much the next lead is…Angie’s doesn’t screen or verify any of their leads whatsoever and good luck getting refunded. The concept of Angie’s is good but their practices make it hard for businesses starting out. Some weeks you pay out more to Angie’s than if you were paying taxes to an employer, so essentially you are an employee of Angie’s without the benefits and paid time off….

  • Really? You’re advising us to not spend a couple hundred to get leads but wants us to invest $2500 into a dang logo on the company vehicle? Wow 😅 Angie’s works as he said “they top dog” but get a logo guys that’s how you get clients 🤣🤡. I disagree with dude so much. That Just because you’re a small business doesn’t mean investing $400 or less in a Month in Angie’s or home advisor is a bad move. Flip that into $3000 and now you’re not broke anymore. Or “small”. But to spend your whole budget in a logo for $2500 🛑 sounds crazy get good equipment and some business first guys. Don’t set an unattainable goal. Remember your a small business lmao 🤦🏽‍♂️

  • lol you just contradicted yourself you just said you paid up to 750$ for leads and you finally landed one where you made like 10k? So didn’t you profit at least 5k? Seems like a pretty good investment if you ask me. Yeah you can’t close them all but Al you need to do is close that one to make your money back an more

  • The Labor Gator LLC Primarily located in the Merrimack Valley area of New England We are a new home service company providing direct leads directly to your phone, with an in app messenger and 1 low monthly fee with no hidden fees. Contractors pay a SMALL percentage (4%) once the job is completed. Stop looking for customers and let them look for you! We will be available February 1st on your favorite mobile app store

  • The greatest leads we get is when you finally are able to call the customer and they say I live in an apartment why do I need a new septic system? And then you call Home Advisor and they say it’s a legit lead so sorry you gotta pay for it. If I ran a company like that, I would go out of business tomorrow but they’re still taking peoples money.

  • I appreciate the article I’m just starting my business and I have very little to hardly any money these people from Angie’s List called me up and I don’t really think I’m going to take them right now I’m going to take your advice and put that advertisement on my car being do I drive all day long that would be perfect yep I drive for a living so that would be perfect thank you very much for the article

  • Leads are sent to 3 contractors at a time and a homeowner must select your business for a lead to be sent out. The system is no longer random. Also each homeowner is sent a true cost guide that will let them know the average cost for their actual project in their area and it will help you guys price better.
