Which Cake Decorating Tip Creates Flowers?

This article provides a comprehensive guide on piping techniques for cake decorating, covering various techniques such as buttercream flowers, buttercream swirls, and borders. It explains the differences between drop flower tips, Russian Piping tips, and basic petals tips. Drop flower tips are used for piping lettering, dots, or outlining cookies, while larger tips are used for large dot borders, swirls, and lines. Petal tips are essential for creating life-like flowers with great dimension, often piped on a flower nail or lily nail.

Flower piping tips are essential tools in cake decorating, offering a variety of designs to create stunning floral decorations. They come in different shapes and sizes, and Russian piping tips are unique as they require only one large tip to create beautiful flowers. To pipe realistic looking buttercream flowers, special piping tips, a flower nail, and a good buttercream recipe are required. Quality food coloring is also essential.

The article breaks down piping tips into three categories: drop flower tips, Russian piping tips, and petal tips. The 1M frosting tip is one of five tips that can create a rose pattern. The article concludes by highlighting the importance of opening the petals up with a slight twist of the wrist while piping.

  • YOU are one of my favorite decorators to follow, watch, and learn from! Just love your beautiful work. You are so very talented! You sound quite young and I am a 65yo woman who really values your knowledge and creations. Guess that just proves that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks, huh? I thank you so very much for taking the time to make such helpful, well-thought-out articles for us. Especially, thanks for SHOWING us, up close, the tips that you are using!! That is so important! Keep them coming…we LOVE your stuff!! God bless, my dear…

  • Thank you so much! I’m making cupcakes for a little girl for the Cake 4 Kids organization, and they didn’t provide any specifics, just “baker’s choice of festive decorations.” I wanted to make something that would really give that wow factor for this little girl, and I think these floral designs will be perfect!!! 🥰🥰

  • My mum made wedding cakes, 3 tier with roses, lattice work on the corners, pillars of course and silver leaves. I was the oldest of four and we’d watch, hypnotized…you could hear a pin drop in our house. She died in her 40s and you just bought such beautiful memories flooding back. The talent skipped our generation but my daughter and her twin girls have the magic. It sad that wedding cakes look like hats now…no one wants to take the time.

  • Where did you buy your cupcake pans and cupcake cases? Also what size are the cases and pans? The pan that I use seems to be too small as the cakes are never nice and round😔. I look at the ones online but I don’t know what size to get. In my country, a jumbo sized cupcake pan is $77 and the cupcake cases here look small😖

  • You are my favorite decortors ever your work is so beutifull you have a speasial talent .I whould love to have your number so you can teach me how to do some of your icing. I love how you take time to do this your so helpful thanks you for showing me up close how the tip look that is the most importent part I love your stuff and your creations keep it up girl God bless you

  • Thank you! You information is clean, clear, precise, and detailed! Even my old butt can understand it! Now it’s practice, practice, and practice! The only good thing is my almost 4 year old twin grand baby critics only care about how much frosting and plenty of sprinkles! Thank goodness, because my cupcakes flavor are very good. Moist delicious, but pretty wouldn’t be a very good description unfortunately! EDIT: using a yellow Color would make a pretty cool sunflower I think?

  • Hello! First time perusal… you are incredibly talented. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone make such beautiful designs. I’m just getting started so these would be a challenge for me. But, I really enjoyed perusal you create. You have a very nice teaching style; pleasant. I’m subscribing to your website. Thanks so much ❤

  • You are so talented! I have a recommendation (as a voice-over artist). Try making your article without sound (or remove/replace any sound after), write your narration script as you watch your article, THEN record completed script and add it to the article. It’s so difficult to try to do everything at once, which is why you end up saying “actually” a thousand times. This is totally typical – most people have that go-to word that they overuse when they’re nervous and trying to do too many things at once! I hope that will help you – it’s not complicated to do. In any case, your techniques are so impressive and helpful!! ❤

  • this is a really great article, especially discussing the couplers and how it lets you change tips and also the particular flowers you did. (but, you said “actually” as much as some people say UHM. probably about 4,000 times in this vid. sometimes people aren’t aware that they are doing it. was in a public speaking class and one person in the group had to be the “uhm” counter. as in, write down how many times the person speaking/presenting did it in their several minute talk. they were always shocked at the number of times.)

  • Your work is beautiful. However for people like me, you’re speaking way to fast. What climate are you in? The trouble I have is my icing droops and is sticky, if the icing isnt stiff enough. & then if I add powdered sugar the icing becomes ….. flaky. If I add cream of tarter how much would I add, per 4 ounces of icing.. All replies, welcome.. Im new at this😉

  • Hi I love making cupcakes a lot and all people around love it. I learn all by myself. Your tutorial is simple and helpful. I only make cream with cream cheese and whipped cream so this is higher level and i try 3 types of butter cream but it is one times too sweet, another not good to make flowers. All woman which makes these type of turorial did not want to share the right recipe ;( and for me also good to know if the butter cream is better to use in the time you make it or for example next day🤔 thank you for what beauty you make

  • I love perusal these articles, but I cannot help but wonder about how you avoid carpal tunnel syndrome or hand cramping? I cannot imagine doing this for hours, and of course you cannot switch hands to do this detailed work. Anxious to hear from anyone who does this type of cake decorating. Thank you!!

  • Do you design religious I’m trying to think of the word that I would like to ask you but say you want to give cupcake gifts to friends at church for someone that’s been sick or someone that you just a friend or love at church or a pastor and his wife is there a specific type of style that you could show me to make I love your design already they are magnificent and I am getting such praise and I think you for that
