📹 The Real Reasons Last Man Standing Was Canceled
After six seasons of grunts and attempts at humor from a right-wing perspective, Tim Allen’s sitcom Last Man Standing is no longer …
Canceled Last Man Standing and replaced it with shows like Marvel’s Inhumans which was a giant flop. Funny enough Friday night is where most Tv shows go to die, but when ABC moved LMS to the Friday night slot it saw a ratings boost. ABC was playing politics and now they are in 3rd place behind CBS and NBC because of it. Your a entertainment company not a propaganda company.
There are so many less TV viewers these days than there once was, and for ABC to cancel one of their biggest shows because “it doesn’t fit their new Friday theme” is truly bizarre and absurd. You’d think that a company would try it’s hardest to build their schedule in a way that keeps the biggest shows in. Don’t believe it’s just a coincidence that “Fresh off the Boat”, another Fox owned show, got to stay. With it’s lower ratings and licencing fees, you’d definitely think it’d get the ax before Last Man Standing. Notice that between the two shows, the one with the all Asian cast gets to stay, yet the more popular one which also happens to be conservative gets the boot.
They ended the shows because the Hollywood doesn’t like how Tim Allen is Conservative it wasn’t a “business decision” they kicked the show off because they couldn’t handle one show being conservative while the others trash talk our former conservative presidents and thoughts. I think that is very childish taking off a show just because they don’t like it. Remember people FIRST AMENDMENT FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
I’m not a Republican, but hey neither is Trump! Last Man Standing was one of the smartest pieces of comedy on television. Shame people can’t appreciate good entertainment beyond their politics. Tim Allen and the cast were brilliant and funny in their delivery and acting. I loved the show and the diversity it represents, that’s just us, Americans. We’ve laughed at ourselves for years from Maud, All in the family to The Jefferson’s, Cheers to Seinfeld; damn folks, don’t loose your since of humor, it balances the real every day insanity. Come on Dungy, move it to another day; Last Man Standing holds its own.
All shows get cancelled at some point. His show was probably getting dry and making the same jokes every episode that they had to crank the laugh track. You Americans are always like, “BLAH BLAH LIBERALS REPUBLICANS DEMOCRATS! TRUE REAL AMERICAAA” idk…I thought Americans were supposed to build eachother up and not tear eachother down. For fuck sakes its a tv show. Tip: Treat eachother with respect. The rest of the world is laughing. Your whole country is just a big sitcom except the laugh track is real, genuine, human laughter.
Fortunately NOW! The RETURN of LMS. Is officially scheduled to return on Fox entertainment t.v.!!! Season #7 premiere September 28th, 2018 Friday 🌙 night at 8:00 p.m.! YES!!!! Suck on THAT ABC!!!! Two changes on characters, a new Mandy 👧 and a new Boyd 👦. EVERYONE else are the same actors. Welcome BACK LMS!!! 😀😀😁😁😀😂😂😂😂😜😀😂😳😇🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😇
Politics had everything to do with the cancellation of the show, who are they kidding. If your not saying or doing what the left wants then your ousted. It’s sickening to see the direction they are pushing this world in.All the more reason we as conservatives have to keep up the good fight and fight them every step of the way.
I would just like to say, that canceling their show was an insult to freedom of speech anti humor. Tim Allen is always been a great guy he’s always brought smiles and kindness Everywhere he performed. I love to show home improvements because of exactly what it expressed. And the way he he expresses himself on Last Man Standing was amazing I’m not a conservative I am an independent and I believe in that word very strongly all he did was practice his rights as an American I may not disagree with his politics but I like his open opinionated attitude. He would not do harm to anybody in fact he would probably reach out and help an individual that needed it without walking by that to me is an American and that to me is a patriot does it matter what your politics are the fact that he could make fun of it is amazing you forget that it was outnumbered for the one on that show. I have three daughters so I understand the characterization in that show my daughters were a lot like his TV daughter’s believe it or not, girls like that really exist but the bottom line is that he was very proud of his children on that TV show as what they were and he encouraged them to be their own person. But the fact is it was funny as hell and I miss the show. Everybody has a right to view things they choose to view I never thought less of the man in any way shape or form. Because his entertainment. His performance is Blended in with a lot of good memories in my life and happy times. I think that’s what counts in this world to give a a person a little bit of Peace when he needs it even if it’s just for 30 minutes out of the week.
Tim Allen said when the show was on ABC that the shows was written by liberals . He also said that if Trump became president that we would probably end up in inturment camps, he said this on the show. The show became really boring when it went to Fox,different writers, also different Mandy, also no Eve partly & making Kyle conservative instead of a hippie.
This was a TREMENDOUS show and I find it really difficult to believe that “it was not cancelled due to political reasons”, especially considering the spoke person said (that) “it was cancelled for the same reasons that ‘x,y,z’ shows were cancelled”. I never even HEARD of those shows and Last Man Standing had amazing ratings (#2 on the website)! Those other 3 shows ( I just watched the article and I have no idea nor can I remember their names)! Tom was politically outspoken but so are SNL, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Cobert and the SNL alumni who also has a late night show! They all build their shows around the Liberal point of view and continually MOCK our President; his classy, beautiful wife and anyone who is a conservative or watches Fox News! What morons. They are ignorant and rude! Tim Allen’s political views should have NOTHING to do with his show being cancelled! I watch the reruns every night and so do all of out friends. I hope Tim gets a new show! I refuse to watch any of the late night talk shows as they are completely biased. I hope they all get cancelled! Jimmy Kimmel goes on and on about the doctors and nurses that cared for his infant son. I hope he realizes that, as he insults Conservatives, that most physicians ( and RNs) ARE conservative! I am an RN and it is a known fact that we and the physicians were disgusted with Obama and Obamacare!!!
Everyone knows ABC’s explanation was prepped and just PR crap. They’re not gonna come out and say it but we all know why it was cancelled. Allen doesn’t agree with the left leaning network so he’s gone. Whatever side of the aisle you’re on it’s pretty obvious. The show came in second to Modern Family. Don’t give me the business crap line. I AM GLAD fox is reviving the show and the fans spoke up. The left can be so open minded and tolerant with people who don’t agree with them, can’t you see that? 😉
I’m a Democrat and love Joe Biden, Harris, Clinton, and Obama. But I also love this show. Watch it daily on CMT. I love Tim Allen’s character and anti liberal mentality. It’s hilarious. Imagine that. A Mexican, who lives in LA, California. But also loves this show. TV is just that. If you’re otherwise influenced that easily by TV, maybe join a gym or go for a walk instead.
I have come short of stop perusal the 4 major networks. Too much drama is depressing. The nation needs some truly funny but truthful shows. Last Man Standing was one of only two shows I watched. Why did they cancel The Middle? Now that my two favorite shows are gone…..so will I be. Yes, it was nothing but pure politics as to why LMS was canceled. They are catering to one crowd. Does this crowd also support the sponsors? Well, I’m done. Just like I am with football. Shame on abc. They aren’t worth capitalizing the letters. That’s how low they are.
It sounds like there were more reasons to cancel then there were to renew, there was the fact that Fox’s contract to produce the show expired and Disney would have to pick up production costs, the fact that Tim Allen would probably want to negotiate a higher salary, the fact that they changed Friday into a night for dramas instead of comedies, and the fact that the audience was older rather than the younger demographic that is so sought after by everyone. Sure it had pretty good ratings, but that’s 1 pro compared to 4 cons. And why would abc cancel Last Man Standing because of Tim Allen being republican when it just revived Roseanne?
This is really simple to explain, networks are doing this now. Fresh off the Boat was in the angel season. Any program that goes into the third season will be renewed with few exceptions because the network can sell a 4-season show for syndication money. Fresh off the Boat may not have the ratings, but it did have money coming in once it hit Season Four. Historically there have been exceptions like the ’60s Batman and Star Trek, but the metric has changed in the last five decades. The rule is 4 seasons or 88 episodes, which Batman had more than that (120 episodes), Star Trek had less (79 episodes) but had such a cult following that people watched them on air. Last Man Standing was in the devil season. When a network program goes into its sixth season, contracts have to be renewed and that usually entails a much higher cost per episode, most networks opt to cancel it rather than let it go into season number seven. 2 Broke Girls, Mike and Molly and Last Man Standing were all cut during their respective devil seasons, because they weren’t getting good enough ratings to warrant higher residuals.
Please. This was 100% a political decision. It was the #2 comedy show on the network. If you wanna clear a night for dramas, then move your more popular show to a night of comedies in a place of a less popular show if this was purely business. They cancelled their more popular show because they wanted to make more money? That’s like Apple not selling iPhone because they wanna be richer. It’s a total BS.
As I democrat and technically I guess, a liberal, even I know why this was cancelled. Allen is a conservative, that’s why. I thought he made some good points, he made a funny show, PC should not have factored into it. Allen at his best. It was a very good show and shouldn’t have been cancelled. What a pity people are so one sided.
The show wasn’t good at all. I consider myself a Tim Allen fan, but even I think there’s better jokes to be made against liberals, and none of these jokes were any good. If you’re a dumb needy conservative, you’d support anyone with your pov. Even though I lean left, I wish there was an actual funny conservative show. Which there isn’t.
I loved Last Man Standing until Tim Allen decided to go with the current climate and politicize the show. I got the Archie/Meathead theme he was mimicking but it didn’t work with all the one-liners meant to play to an audience. Other times he came off more like a preachy political pundit. He did eventually lower the political tone of the show when he went to Fox. Still hated that ABC cancelled it but feel Tim helped push it out the door
They need to cancel ‘Once Upon a Time’ as well! The show is ridiculous with the consistent myriad of fairy tale characters that never seem to have existed in episodes prior to the one in which they are initially introduced! I dropped it from my weekly ‘watch schedule’ after just two seasons of hoping that it would have become more than the hacked mess it has turned out to be!
Comedy on Friday nights for people who work hard all week..?? . ie … dealing with negativity, drama, anxiety, stress, … hmmm.. 🤔🤔… right ABC…. why would people want to laugh.. ? Sure.. cancel the clever, intelligent thought provoking comedy and go with your “dramas”… ABC boss woman.. I don’t believe you.
Anyone buying ABCs explanation” But, it is their network, and they can air anything they like. And we can watch anything we like – It’s the American way. Maybe Last Man can go syndicated?? Other than Jeopardy, we hardly watch ANY broadcast TV, and that includes ANY NFL games. PBS is about the only exception.
Update: The FOX network did pick up “Last Man Standing” for its seventh season and it has been renewed for an 8th season. That ABC executive in this article responsible for cancelling the program can make all the excuses she wants; but the real reason “Last Man Standing” was dropped by that network is because this executive didn’t like the Tim Allen character making fun of Hillary and Obama. Interesting sidebar: Most of the shows featured in this article that ABC decided to renew ended up being cancelled because of poor ratings. Makes me wonder if that programming executive is still employed by ABC?
I liked the show too but lets not ignore the fact that Tim wanted more money and they ddin’t own it, and weren’t killing the right demographic. ABC cancelled Cristela despite it’s ratings being pretty close to Last Man Standing, ABC cancels a lot of shows. Networks could less, they just care about the money. Fresh Off the Boat stayed probably because they don’t any of those actors much, no one on that show is famous like Tim. He needs to stop blaming it politics, as if it affects Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Vince Vaughn, Adam Sandler, and ABC’s own Roseanne.
ABC had made an unfair decision to cancel Dr. Ken and this show. I live in rural America where we support high school football games; however, I would watch Dr. Ken on a Friday if there’s no home football games at my alma mater. I’m extremely disappointed when they cancelled a good show like Dr. Ken. The question is: Why would ABC cancel Friday night comedies and replace them with bland, ill-received dramas??
ABC is in last place for a reason. First off How the hell did Disney get so liberal which owns ABC. Out of the 5000 shows there are two that are conservative. Last Man Standing and Blue Bloods. And to tell you the truth they’re not so conservative. They both have ultra libs show up on their shows constantly. But that’s the way the libs ride. If You don’t agree with us 100% you will be destroyed. I just love that Fox had the common sense to pick a well loved show. So as the youngest daughter always said ” Suck it” yeah that’s really conservative.
I was surprised ABC kept Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. after its continued lower performance. I was not surprised to see Last Man Standing go away because, after an apparent power struggle between Allen and the staff writers, the show decreased in quality for a season or so before regaining its health (this time with a more sturdy conservative stance…and not that phoney quasi-conservative-actually liberal presentation).
The show simply wasn’t funny. It’s pretty much the same old jokes as in Home improovement, but now he is a bitter old man, who can’t accept, that times have changed. Btw: Tim Allen was a coke smuggler and avoided a long prison sentence, by ratting out his colleagues. A real a family man, someone to look up to and a conservative icon,…
One of the more funny thoughtful shows on the air. I think the comment about politics was 100% accurate. ABC let Channing’s political viewpoint get in the way. Allen wouldn’t bow to her desire to have snide remarks against Trump on every show they air. Well here’s my position, since last man staning is no longer on ABC, my family and our kids will no longer watch ABC.
Tim Allen got it right – the show was cancelled because having a likable conservative on television is a dangerous thing in Hollywood. Bottom line. On a similar note, when Spacey accepted the role for “House of Cards”, the original character was a republican. Spacey told them that he would take the role under the one condition that he portray a democrat, not a republican. The moral of the story is that if a democrat is a vicious and evil person, they’re still likable, but a republican is hated no matter what. Think about it, folks, think about – think long and think hard.
You could watch an entire episode and not realize it was meant to be a comedy. The purported laugh lines always had more petty vindictiveness than truth underlying. Allen derides Hollywood and the entertainment industry as a whole, but fails to mention they are one of the few arenas where a convicted felon could have his debt to society recognized as being paid, and go on with his life. They didn’t make him check an application box in order to cull him from consideration. The entertainment industry, with organized sports and perhaps IT, may be the closest things we have to a meritocracy. Work, achieve, succeed. Religion does not determine your ability to hit a baseball. Color does not make you funny, or dramatic. Creed does not help you toward or hurt you from turning a phrase. Learning to code does not depend on the depth of your pockets. The greatest hurdle to overcome is the one most ingrained and most fundamental — gender. Of course Hollywood struggles with it. Every corner and wall of society does. The fact is that the portions of the economy most conducive to upward mobility, most cognizant of an up-by-the-bootstraps philosophy, most reliant upon individual libertarianism and general populism, are those that are most progressive. They have the lowest barriers to entry. They have some of the highest rewards for accomplishment. Allen’s success is an accolade for progressive society . There is certainly more to be done; there always is. No one should pretend that people with less talent, or with differently directed talent, are not equally worthy.
Purely political and Not revenue based: dump the no. 2 program for others that get cancelled… Too conservative… where else on any major network was there a comedic conservative pov!?!?! Allen will land on his feet because freedom of specch is not what is now being pandered: freedom of screech. Or, maybe her whole motivation was racist because, after all, that is the econmy of true political justice, whether on the streets, boardroom, or production set.
The list of networks i watch getting shorter and shorter! TV for entertainment is long gone thanks to these left wingers nutters like this Channing Dungey, she’s lousy as CEO, she also cancelled Roseanna she and her sister are very politically correct, sucking the life out of everything! I don’t watch ABC anymore canning the best shows, included Conviction? Sad, miserable people.
Meh I remember getting soo stoked to see this TV show. Then when it came out I watched 4 episodes and it was no home improvement. Honestly I didn’t know people were perusal that show like crazy, but I really don’t think they cancelled that show because of politics. It’s dumb! At the end of the day money always talks. No matter what side your on. Look at the show the ranch! That show is conservative ranchers, and it’s still funny as hell.
While I don’t support shows that force political agendas no matter which side, Last Man Standing was hilarious whenever I’d watch it. It’s funny though how a show based around Conservative ideals gets cancelled yet there are so many shows that force Liberal agendas all over and yet they stay on the air. Again, I’m not political, I just think it’s hypocritical.
I’m still fucking pissed about this! Tim Allen was a big part of my childhood with Home Improvement and of course Toy Story !! Last Man Standing was a way for me to enjoy a childhood hero of mine every week… but ABC had to make way for the shitshow that was Inhumans, or the current Agents of SHIELD season.. man ABC FUCKED UP
This show was hilarious. The best parts were when Liberal Larabee and Mike Baxter would trade insults. They both made the show, and then I loved it when Baxter would call Vogulson a woman because of the way he handled things. There were a lot of politics from both points of view, but Larabee and Baxter were the best!
It was becoming the same old rehashed jokes, anyhow. I didn’t much like Tim Allen’s character. At least in Home Improvement, he was trying to understand his wife and gain perspective. In LMS, you get the sense that he doesn’t much like his wife and views his daughters as entities he must tolerate. He has some affinity with his youngest, but only to the point where she is a reflection of his own interests and world view. He just isn’t very likable.
Honestly, this show lost me after two seasons. It was like every line was a cheap shot at liberal democrats. What happened to good sitcoms that talked about realistic coming of age issues (bullying, underage drinking, drugs) along with tasteful humor. It doesn’t exist anymore because it’s easier to make jokes when they’re at someone else’s expense. No love loss here.
The right-wing think tanks that spawned this show aren’t fading away, instead they are changing their approach. Having determined that their target audience is dumb as rocks and has been duly programmed by their “faith-based” televangelists to believe they are living in the “end-times”, we can now expect to be served televison-fare that give homage to the apocolyptic mindset.
I believe whole heartedly that it was because the show portrayed a long standing view of a traditional Christian family. Tv and society as a whole wants to shake up America’s view of what a traditional family looks like and definitely does not want God anywhere in that picture. Politics may well prove a stinger one it as well as money, but my biggest bet is how we view what family looks like. Everyone is married to a opposite sex partner. Every child birthed. While the eldest may habe had her child out of wedlock, it seems that got fixed after a few seasons. Every evening ended with them saying prayer at the dinner table before eating. Now while I loves and live this kind of life it is no longer the norm nor do they want it be, so out goes the Christian shows… in with the lefts view of how life should look, as strange and pathetic as some of it is. XX XY.
I liked to watch Tim Allen on The Home Improvement show, but when he started talking about, his politics he lost my support. Why do celebs feel the need to discuss their conservative political views? Don’t they realize that can alienate the youthful television audience? If you’re a liberal u don’t want, to listen to some guy insulting, u on the boob tube every week. I believe the politics and the dollar played a part in the decision to end his show
Privilege white. he wants to talk about not getting handouts, affirmative action is wrong. let’s see his oldest daughter got a job she was not qualified for manager of the restaurant, the middle daughter lazy, self-absorbed, princess got a handout from her grandfather(money)to start the fashion business, the youngest daughter got a recommendation to go to school form another rich white male. the wife got promote over less attractive coworker. Kyle got promoted because of the wife push for him to be on the sales floor even though he was a told goofball.
If it was cancelled because of politics, I think that is wrong. People should be able to find their views available on tv. Just because I disagree with some of its views, it doesn’t mean that it should be cancelled. You don’t have to limit others’ sharing of ideas if you don’t feel threatened by it. I had rarely heard of this show before now, but am considering perusal. If we can’t laugh and make fun of ourselves or evaluate how we got to where we are, how will we ever learn?
I LOVED this show and I love Tim Allen. He is awesome and so hilarious. They should’ve never canceled the show. People need to stop wearing their feelings on their sleeves…stop letting things offend you so easily! Tim Allen is hilarious and his shows are hilarious and very entertaining. Bring the show back! If I were the type of person to get offended about things from tv shows and movies and start complaining about them and trying to get them thrown off the show…there wouldn’t be anything left to watch…LOL….come on people…stop acting like damn idiots! If you don’t like a show then just stop perusal it! Don’t ruin it for the rest of the world! It makes me so mad that they canceled this amazing show! Tim Allen, you are awesome and hilarious and your shows are awesome as well! 🙂 I love your shows!
Crying shame! Now I don’t watch ANY shows on ABC prime time. I am not here nor there when it comes to politics, I have my own thoughts and don’t always agree with ANY party affiliation and some of the political and gun references; and rhetoric I knew was destined for real time criticism; But you have to keep in mind this is a COMEDY show. NOT A POLITICAL FORUM! (EXCEPT FOR HOLLYWOOD!) I miss the whole cast (some of whom we watched grow up right before our eyes) and hope that ANOTHER network will pick it up and keep this EXCELLENT show with great talent, and even greater writers; And I hope they put it right where ABC has their DRAMA shows that replaced it. (Take that ABC, and stick it where the sun doesn’t shine!) As far as I am concerned (and I think a LOT of people of both sexes, and all age groups will agree) this was a real winner AND SOOOOOO! FUNNY! I watched these shows again, and again; AND stayed tuned to finish the show where I would normally just record a show, and skip ALL the commercials. That being said, I cannot imagine advertisers not getting in a row to advertise AT ANY COST to have their products reach such a diverse audience base.
I loved Tim (and the entire cast) in his first show, Home Improvement. I have enjoyed Tim’s movies as well. I fully expected to become addicted to LMS as well but the interjection of vile right wing political commentary was not something I was expecting. The comments below continue to expose a deep hatred, it basically dramatizes the very same lack of class which now expresses itself throughout the right wing and that is why I stopped perusal LMS years ago. I wonder how my little diatribe will generate more hate, I cannot help but wonder where this is taking us. Will Rogers certainly had a gift when it came to political commentary. Ok. Fire away…
Whatever the reason was for it being cancelled, it should not have happened so abruptly. Why not tell them at the beginning of season 6 that they won’t be renewed for a 7th season so that the last half or so of season 6 could have been re-written. At least that way fans could get some closure and see a definitive ending instead of things being left up in the air.
They (the networks) love to can series, the longer a series goes on the higher pay and expenses generally it requires, there is therefore an increasing demand for ratings to justify these rising production costs and when they dont rise or stagnate the profibility falls and they will do anything to kill the series as soon as possible to replace it with a new series, as they are the cheapest to produce.
Good any Trump supporter shouldn’t get to express their racist views. We’re in 2019 If your still racist in these times please seek God because although you may think your righteous and above any minorities the Lord’s scriptures say other wise. “The last will be first, and the first will be last.” Matthew 20:16. Spread Love NOT hate
ya, Politics played no role….the only real Conservative show in the midst of Liberal/biased ocean of TV….Sad. Popularity/ratings or not….it didn’t fit the narrative. Miss the show….it just went against the grain too much despite the Possible other factors that were talked about/mentioned/exaggerated/lied about. Like THEY care. put more idiotic shows on TV like the View. Joke
The cancelation of this show should be have been a real eye-opener for Americans. It reflects how the media (who certain individuals have in their pocket) attempts to mind control us. If any other opinion is expressed,, then people might actually think in their own and form their own opinions.. That would be awful for the people that try to control us. Just look at how one-sided politics are being taught in schools. Children aren’t taught both sides. They’re only taught the very liberal, “everyone can do anything, take everything, get away with everything, and not be held accountable ” view.
what a bummer! I really liked this show. I’m sure it was a political decision to cancel it, since being second in the ratings most websites would die for, but either way, now with Netflix and other outside vendors taking on the networks outcasts are so successful doing it, they should grab a hold of it. actually, it seems stupid for networks not to put a final episode on when they decide to cancel any show. it’s so cruel to just cancel a show with no advanced notice, for the actors and for the viewers, plus, wouldn’t the last episode of any show draw a lot of viewers? Seems like the heads of the networks always have their heads up their ass! and why does everyone want to only make shows for 18-40 year olds? those are the people who have better things to do than watch tv! why not shoot for the older retired crowd who have time to do things and usually the money to spend! especially going to movies! the only reason the older people don’t go to the movies as much is everything is so dirty that the moral crowd has only a few movies to choose from, plus, let’s face it, it’s a bathroom issue. if you would only go back to having intermissions like in the past, you would not only give them time to go to the bathroom, but more chances to sell stuff at the concession/jewelry case stands! How is this not obvious? nothing but immoral douchbags running hollywood. at least they are getting called out now. I wish a rich moral person would take over hollywoood, but I’m not sure there’s one out there!
This show is fantastic. here in the UK I love perusal the American comedy shows and it takes a long time to get the shows over here. Networks sort out your school yard childish behaviour and give the US and UK fans what they want, never mind the rubbish about ratings or politics or pay rises if it’s on tv the fans will watch it or record it if they aren’t home.
Tim Allen attempts to insult liberals and democrats by calling them ‘whiny’ or sayin’ they’re jus’ ‘touchy feely’ or whatever. But his show is literally a series of articles where he whines about the state of American culture, and the fact that everyone is mean to him, and he can’t say what he wants, or how he can’t play sports with women.
