Cabeza de Vaca, a Spanish explorer, was one of the first to describe America from Florida to Arizona. His account, published in 1542 as La Relación (“The Relation”, or in more modern terms “The Account”), is considered the oldest history we have. The book, published by Kessinger Publishing, LLC, is 160 pages long and includes descriptions of his subsequent experience as Governor of the Rio de la Plata region in South America.
In 1527, Cabeza de Vaca was one of four survivors of a Spanish expedition. After returning in 1537, he wrote an account, first published in 1542 as La Relación (“The Relation”, or in more modern terms “The Account”), which in turn became the first European to describe America from Florida to Arizona. His works are considered the oldest history we have, and his account is considered a mesmerizing sixteenth-century epic of a man’s incredible expedition.
Cyclone Covey’s Adventures in the Unknown Interior of America, first published in 1961, is the most recent translation and is also the most accessible for the present-day reader. This historical account of Cabeza de Vaca’s journey to the interior of America is a mesmerizing and adventurous experience for readers.
