Maaco provides value to a segment of the market. As someone else said here, no one is going to spend 4K to paint a 94 Mustang. They are not the same as first class refinish shop, but most of those don’t even want to do all over paint jobs, and if they do, they will charge a minimum of 2500.00 with no body work. So, there is a place for Maaco and think they do a pretty good job for what they charge.
Maaco is a franchise. They are independently owned. It’s like going to your favorite chain fast food place. Your local one might suck, but the one in the next city might be pretty damn good. The customer service and food might be way better. Same principles apply at these sorts of places. I had a Maaco paint job on my first car. I still have the hood of that car. Paint still looks damn good 8 years later.

All Maaco shops are not the same, so go see their work ahead of time to know what you’re getting. Now….to be totally honest here…for the money, this is a pretty decent job. Maaco has had a bad reputation for years because too many people expect a $5000 job for $500.00!! It just doesn’t work that way! And no I don’t work for Maaco and never have.

I can relate my experience. I had a Western TN MAACO paint my black 96 vette. They had 3 different quality paint jobs available. I had talked with many people and they said the top quality job is what you want for a vette. I paid 18 hundred for it in 2013. They did a fine job. But that cheapest paint job they offer is junk. Ya get what ya pay for.
Maaco did a bad job on my Camry and by the time after one year and the vehicle showed the bad finish on the prep job plush $$1500.00 later I could not make a claim on the shop because that franchise closed. I contacted corporate Maaco, no luck ( I was told that they would get back to me, after a week, no call.
I once had a 1985 Moritz Cadillac they painted the same color and the guy said that he had it outside and because of it he got several more jobs from it they did a fantastic job and forget what I paid for it that was way over well 1985 today I no longer have the car but they did do a great job and now I’m going to go and have another one done
I worked for these fools for about 3 hours back in the 1997 here in phoenix Arizona off of Van Buren and I-10 and my first vehicle was to get it ready for paint so i took out my sander and started getting down then i was stopped and told not to sand with a DA sander i was given a red scrubbing pad to scratch up the surface i was like WTF and packed my tools up and walked
Maaco is ok if you have a good conditioned beater you just want to look passable. In about 1983 I had my 1965 nova wagon done by maaco for $175,00. BUT…..I pulled off all the chrome and wet sanded the body before I brought it in. Funny thing was (or not so funny) they painted it the wrong blue. They must have read the paint microfish samples wrong. They painted it GM Tahitian Turquoise . Actually looked pretty good.
they still have my car after 3 weeks for a paint job and 3 or 4 very small dings. I took them a new hood and new bumper cover( both gm in the boxes) well they apparently painted the hood then droped it and bent the crap out of it and try to tell me it was that way..and yet the dammage was in the new paint…he said they were going to repaint it due to that dammage?? Be honest on the premium paint package for 1200 what should i expect for longevity it says 5 year warrenty my maaco in winchester va is saying 4k for a car with just a couple dings and minor body work its a miata so it doesnt have a roof to paint either. I have a 1999 Chevy Tahoe that I have owned for 13 years and it’s pretty much rust free, runs like new, but the paint was peeling off. I had my mechanic go over it to be sure it was worth painting. After inspecting it very thoroughly he said definitely. I called many body shops as I had heard stories about NAACP but in each case when they found out there was no body work to be done they refused stating that the bodywork was where they made their profit. All of them referred me to NAACP but advised me that they offered several tiers of paint job and that you get what you pay for. I took it there and they showed me past jobs they had done and helped me pick the job I wanted. I went for the best one. My wife was a bit skeptical but when we picked it up we were both astounded. It looked better than the factory paint job. It’s been a year and not a single problem or defect has arisen. This particular shop was staffed by car guys who really liked to show their skill on a top tier job. So check out your shop and if they aren’t like that drive to one that is if possible. They did a Terrible paint job (runs,total orange peel,over spray) and lost my trim and stole stuff out of trunk.Also,there was an unusual gauge under the headlight like from a sharp tool and they did they said it was probably already there.never again! i have had multiple vehicles paint by maaco in illinois i have been totally satisfied, one was a 4 door chevy dually,(black) i pulled all the chrome and glass, the rear fenders, interior, block sanded it primed it brought in on a trailer with 3 gal of dupont centauri pitch black, they did a phenomenal job ! just a little prep work and a clean car goes along way!
