On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger broke apart 73 seconds into its flight, killing all seven crew members. I remember this incredibly well as I had just turned 18 the day before. I was a senior in HS and I was in the cafeteria for study hall. A friend came up to me and told me what had happened and I didn’t believe her at first. Later that day, I turned on CNN or something and repeatedly saw the image of The Challenger blowing up. I was speechless. To this day, it remains with me, just like 9/11 or when my mom heard about President Kennedy being shot. You always remember where you were and the sadness these tragedies always bring to the masses.

it sounds like you want to do the show, so do it. but i kind of get the vibe that they will try to make you look mentally ill….it just makes no sense on why they’re pushing the therapist so hard especially considering they arent local. seems like they have a guy on payroll who is in on the plan. otherwise why would it matter who you sat down with? I think you should still do the show if you want to do it. People who follow you already know who you are so i dont see anyones opinions changing. only thing i see is more people finding you.
Late to the game, but WOW about that tv show and their switching up how the therapist would benefit YOU. It’s almost like they were setting up some kind of “out” in case they want to distance themselves from you later. This would enable them to still reap the benefits of your “content” but have a means for themselves to escape potential blowback by keeping in their back pocket the ability to say something like “he even saw a therapist about his belief in simulation theory”. That would be an entirely technically true statement that does not fit the legal definition of slander. How do I know about the use of “technically” true statements to paint an entirely false picture? I worked for a food store that sold alcoholic beverages. When being trained on how to i.d. people, we learned everything on the face can be altered except the distance between the eyes. If you do the show it will get your name out there. They will probably make you out as kooky but by having your name out there to that extent will allow you to get your message to more people. Life is a trade off but I have been following you from the beginning of the website and I got the impression that you wish to reach more people. Doing the show will allow that and may open more doors. I would do it just for that reason alone. But I am a believer in intuition so follow your gut feeling. Is there anyway they could have made the shuttle have an emergency ejection button or automatic emergency ejection if an explosion happened? The crew cabin was obviously in tact.. would there have been a way to make a huge parachute deploy like if a pilot hits emergency ejection? Obviously the shuttle program is over I’m just wondering would that have been possible ??
Maybe at the last min some of the crew got a bad feeling about going up and backed out after the article showed them waving and boarding. But after it blew up with some crew still on, NASA didn’t want to make it public that the few didn’t get on and are still alive. It’s not valiant and they have survivors guilt so they went into hiding. Keeping the same name and being in plain sight tho is odd if you’re going to cover up a couple deaths. Def some astronauts were killed bcus it had to be piloted to be launched and switches were turned on after the explosion manually.
Just tell the producer to pay you. They can’t find anyone to fill your shoes in such short notice. You can get more exposure for your website, too. You just gotta be smart about the contract. There are some simple ways to prove with 99% certainty weather or not this is true. Take a look at all film of the space crew. Focus on 2 things. Thier teeth. Even identical twins have differences in thier teeth structure. Then the most viable proof is thier veins. The veins in the hands & arms are like finger prints no 2 person have them the same. This has like teeth been used in court of law to establish identity.
I was 14 years old, sitting in Mrs. Kennedy’s 8th grade AP Algebra classroom perusal with the rest of my classmates. It was dead silent after the initial Whoop whoop whoop cheering from the lift off… the silence was broken by a sickening gurgle which then erupting into a blood curdling scream from Mrs. Kennedy… She was so proud to have a connection to the first teacher in space, being a teacher herself… and one of the best I ever had, to be frank…. The moment that Challenger Exploded is something that has been imprinted on me and the surrealness of the event has only ever been matched two other times by the attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Building in OKC on 4/19/1995 and the WTC Twin Towers on 9/11 2001… all three events are permanently imprinted on me and I will never forget where I was on those days… I worked in Downtown OKC in the Liberty Tower when the Murrah building was destroyed… I watched the WTC attack live on the news that morning in 2001 while I was getting ready to go to work… but the event that affected me the most as always been the loss of the USS Challenger … I guess it was my age at the time, being 14 and impressionable… I was also extremely interested in Astronomy and space travel… at the time, I thought I wanted to one day be an astronaut myself… unfortunately, the Challenger explosion destroyed that aspiration and I took a different path in life… this article brought back a lot of memories and it made me wonder, what would my life had been like had the Challenger explosion never happened?
It was truly a sad day. I was the Chief military engineer for the Air Force Titan 34D launch vehicle at the time. I was standing out on the balcony of the Vertical Integration Building that faced the Shuttle pad about 3 miles away as the crow flies. We had a launch vehicle on Pad 40 at the time waiting to launch. I watched as the Shuttle went up and I realized the fate of the mission as soon as I saw the Shuttle solid motors separate prematurely. It was surreal. May they all rest in peace. 🙏
A few years ago I went to Kennedy Space Center and visited the memorial for Challenger and Columbia. It was so emotional seeing a piece of both space shuttles on display. I stood there with a few people I never met and talked about the day and we had tears in our eyes. This tragedy didn’t have to happen and we all wish the NASA listened to the experts that day.
I was 8.5 months pregnant and was sitting in my boss’s office discussing maternity leave when a co-worker came running in with the news. To say we were all shocked is an understatement. They replayed the explosion on the news for days. May they RIP. Condolences to the families for something that should have never happened.

I will NEVER forget when this happened and I cry as I type this: my now deceased sister and I were on the phone, each perusal and commenting when she suddenly said, “Donnie (her nickname for me), something’s not right”, and as she finished we both witnessed The Challenger light up then explode in that now infamous ‘Y-shape’. She then whispered, “They’re gone…”
Very sad day. My brother was in the Air Force at the time of the Challenger blowing up he went into a bathroom stall and on toilet paper wrote the tribute for the Challenger. Then he actually transferred it to paper. I do believe the Shreveport Louisiana newspaper printed it. I do believe the tribute hangs in the Johnson space center to this day.
My family moved to the NASA Headquarters when we were very young- growing up in the Astronaut NASA community – was simply amazing! I had the pleasure of being friends with these Astronauts’ children. Judith Resnic was brilliant and what a charming beauty! Commander Scobee and his wife wife attended our church – very humble and always a positive word.My sister was dating the pilot’s son and spent a lot of time at the Smith home, quite the warm family. These Astronauts were the best of the best in science and in their field and we truly appreciated all their contributions and dedication to the future of humanity. The Space community treasures all our engineers, scientists and astronauts. It was a blessing to be a part of such an iconic space community. We cried for months upon the explosion.
What a sad event. I was in the Navy, underway in the pacific when this happened. Unfortunately, the mentality that ultimately was responsible for this tragedy is still prevalent in our society today. I designed power lines for 6 different power companies, all of which ignored safety, to some extent, to save money. I had to walk away from the industry due to the level of incompetent decisions and lack of code compliance. Too many people are not being held accountable for their irresponsible decisions.
I’m from the UK & was lucky enough to see Atlantis launch at 4am in May 1997 on our 1st holiday to Florida. It truly was an amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity & still one of the most memorable experiences we have ever had or are likely to have. Saw a SpaceX rocket launch in March last year in the afternoon, but it wasn’t anywhere near as amazing as the shuttle launch. We have visited KSC 4/5 times over the years, on holidays and everytime we go, just before we leave, we always go down to the memorial wall & pay our respects to all the people who have lost their lives to space exploration.
I live right down the road in Palm Ba;y, and had just pulled my truck off the road to get a picture. I got my picture for sure, less than 10 seconds after the initial explosion. When engineers that know tell you the machine is not safe for flight, believe them. They built the machine and know where the failure points are most likely to occur. It was too cold for a launch. How hard is that to understand? But then the engineers didn’t have the final say so. And look what happened. The O-ring failed and the machine exploded, killing the crew.
Christa was a Teacher at My Junior High, Ben Foulois Junior High, He Was A General, Born 1879, Flew Some of First Planes from Wright Brothers, Was Army, Later Air Force. Our Town was Mostly Air Force, across the Street From Andrews Air Force Base, Now, called Joint Force Andrews. Father and Mother both Air Force. She was a Good Teacher, Her and the Crew are Missed😢
When I worked in Civil Engineer, I worked with a guy, who worked on the Challenger booster rockets. He told me it was too cold for the launch of the Challenger causing the faulty O-ring in the right solid rocket booster seal to fail at ice-cold temperatures led to the destruction issues on the Space Shuttle. The NASA commissioner in charge of the shuttle project ignored it. Sadly, this happened R.I.P Christa McAuliffe 1948-1986, Dick Scobee 1939-1986, Ellison Onizuka 1946-1986, Judith Resnik 1949-1986, Ronald McNair 1950-1986, Michael J. Smith 1945-1986, Gregory Jarvis 1944-1986.
Even the words, “I am deeply sorry and I sincerely apologize” to the families and loved ones of the astronauts will never suffice for the loss of their lives and the pain that this preventable tragedy have left behind. Those at the top of NASA who knew exactly about the faulty O rings but still gave the launch a go have this burden of guilt for causing the death of these astronauts to deal for the rest of their lives and shame that befell on their families and their generations.
I’m surprised there is still a debate about whether or not the crew died. NASA was very closed mouth about an escape system, even after it was developed, because public awareness of how the system worked POINTED to the inescapable conclusion the crew survived the initial failure. In addition to what they developed as an escape system, it was common knowledge in the Air Force life support sections that all the crewmembers survived the failure, as their oxygen meter toggles had been moved to the 100% setting, which could have only been done manually, and was on the emergency procedures checklist
Neither the Challenger nor the Columbia tragedies should have happened. Engineers had warned about the O-rings and cold temperatures, and later that it was only a matter of time until the Columbia suffered yet another heat tile failure but in a critical location. Tiles had failed before in other locations on the shuttles. May they all rest in peace with the Lord.
I was a junior in high school. We were all perusal it live in combined classrooms because there was only so much AV equipment. We all just sat there staring, like ‘what just happened?’, ‘was that supposed to happen??’. When we realized it after a few minutes, no one said anything, not even the class smartasses. Just hands over mouths and tears from many of us. Not a sound, for a full 5 minutes, which is a long time in a high school classroom crammed with 3 classes of kids. I still cry when I see it.
I was a 6th grader…our teacher roled in a TV set so we could all watch😢 I didn’t really know what happened until my teacher started yelling…”OHHHH NOOOO! OHHH MY GOD IN HEAVEN” THEY immediately rolled the TV out and it seemed like forever before she came back into the classroom! Then bawling and sobbing as she told us what had happened 😢 I’ll never forget that all my life!
My brother was an Air Force Major stationed at Vanderburg AFB monitoring the launch. He said two of the astronauts were alive until they hit the water as they were monitoring their vitals. He gave me their names but it was so many years ago I don’t remember who they were. Such a sad day. He was also going through the interview process for a shuttle science officer at the time and had met his future crew mates and had learned to fly the shuttle. Today he is retired and owns two aircraft of his own. When I reflect back I am kind of glad the military started pulling out of the space shuttle program because if my brother had been on one in the future he could have been in one the future shuttle tragedies.
I drove all the way to Florida to watch and article record the launch. I was standing on Coco beach and could not believe my eyes when it exploded. Sad day I will never forget. I really could not understand why they launched, as it was down in the 40s.I was 31 and I even was very emotional as I witnessed this accident.
As a freshman in high school perusal that live, I can’t tell you how hurt it made me feel. Then, decades later to find out they forced the flight because of the media coverage when they knew it was too cold and icy for liftoff. No one should have been outside in Florida at 22 degrees! That temperature is Michigan weather, and I live in Michigan!
I work in the business that sell orings. That shuttle had absolutely no reason take off that day. They knew everyone knew those Orings had never been test at the temperature level. After the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986, the remains of the seven crew members were recovered from the Atlantic Ocean. The crew compartment of the Challenger was found intact underwater and retrieved by a salvage vessel. The crew cabin, with the remains of the astronauts inside, was located two months after the disaster. The bodies of the astronauts were not recovered until the crew cabin was brought to the surface. The remains were found and removed from the cabin by Navy divers and recovery teams. Following the recovery, the remains of the crew members were taken to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware for identification and examination. The process of identifying the crew members and determining the cause of death was carried out by medical examiners. The crew members were honored and remembered for their bravery and dedication to space exploration. The Challenger disaster had a profound impact on the space program and led to improvements in safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future.😢 😞
The Challenger was on display at the New Orleans World Fair in 1984. If only I had known (while looking at it on display at the fair) that it wasn’t going to be around much longer, I think I’d been in tears, as I was just 2 years later when it exploded. I have pictures of it when it was on display in New Orleans… memories.
Just watched this article for the first time. I remember that sad day very well. I am a retired State Trooper here in Florida. On that day, I was busy working an auto accident in Pinellas county near Tampa. The people in this minor crash and myself were stunned as we could see from that distance the explosion in the air. It was bad and we all knew it. Sad day for America.
The question is: why did the solid fuel rocket tubes have O-ring sealed joints at all? That was a fundamental weak point. The answer is that the rockets had to be transportable by air, and the US did not have an aircraft capable of carrying an entire one-piece rocket tube. Hence they had to be made in sections which were assembled after transport. Bad engineering. I think the whole space shuttle project was doomed from the start: something that ungainly and complicated was bound to fail sooner or later under the stresses of launching and re-entry, and it did, on both counts.
I was 23 and in the Marine Corps this time and I was stationed at Quantico, Virginia remember sitting in a classroom and somebody came in saying the shuttle just blew up. we all went to the dayroom and the TV was already on the news and we just sat there and stood silence perusal I will never forget that day

I was sitting in my junior high school office waiting to see the nurse when Challenger exploded. I was in gym class and suffered a hairline fracture in my ankle and had to hobble upstairs just in time for liftoff. In my school they didn’t let students watch but the office staff did. I was so excited to be able to watch. My excitement changed to horror 93 seconds in when the unthinkable happened. The entire office was stunned and shocked into silence you could have heard a pin drop. It really was a truly tragic day.
To Gen X, this was the day our childhood ended. I was 11 going on 12 and in the 6th grade. Our teachers were beside themselves when this happened. One of them was contemplating whether or not to turn it off but the other said coldly, “No, they need to watch this.” It was a bad year for me because it was the same year I lost the grandfather I was named after. I was SO looking forward to this day and afterwards. I had always loved science and was looking forward to meeting Christie McCaullife because she was going to come to our school after she came back to earth. Sad fucking day.

How excited I would get at each launch, how I wished I could one day be on a Space Shuttle. One the day of the launch, as soon as I got home from school I rushed to the TV, hoping to catch footage of it, but instead was shocked and devastated to hear that the Challenger had exploded with the loss of her entire crew. That night, I remember I slept with my 6-inch die-cast toy Space Shuttle next to my bed. Now, at the age of 52, the tears come up still whenever I think of the Challenger disaster. I was 9 when this happened and I was at school in 4th grade. I remember it well. The whole school watched it live on TV. What we didn’t know at the time was the crew capsule was still intact when it impacted the water at a very high rate of speed, instantly killing all onboard. This means they knew their fait for several MINUTES of free falling.
I lived in Lake County and had a clear view of the accident. My 8 year old daughter was home and was at home that day with the flu. Moments before the accident, I covered her with a blanket and went in the yard to see the launch. It was a horrific sight, but my daughter thought it was beautiful like fire works. It was devastating and very difficult to tell her the awful truth. What a sad thing to happen. The engineers were warned that morning that it was to cold (effecting the o rings) for the mission to continue.
I was 9 years old and my sister was 11 we were out of school that day and we sat in the floor as close to the big floor model tv in our living room that my mom would allow. I remember when it happened we just looked at each other with total silence and shock. It was my grandmothers birthday and I remember she just sat down in her chair and cried
I was driving from Tampa toward Vero Beach that day. On the radio, the DJ stopped the music to announce the successful launch. Cars were pulled over all up and down the highway and people stood outside their cars and cheered, perusal the Challenger ascend. Suddenly the DJ went silent. Then he said, “My God, it just blew up.” Like most of the people on the highway, I thought the things flying off the Challenger were supposed to come off as it went into space. When we realized… There was silence on the highway except for a few sobs. One of those sobs came from me. God bless that crew and their families. It’s a vision I will never forget.

I was so sad at the thought of a teacher blowing up in space (now I realize that’ the capsule was jettisoned, but that doesn’t bring comfort – I wish they’d had escape parachutes). The kids who were in school on 9/11 suffered a similar trauma. You never quite get over a national tragedy suffered at such a young age.
Hitting that water from that height and falling at such high speed was like hitting concrete. I know the “teacher in space” was very exciting, especially for students. But in a real way, all the hoopla over Christa McCauliff caused this disaster. The lauch had already been delayed a couple of times, and the NASA publicity machine did not want to lose more momentum by scrubbing again. They all knew the risk of launching in cold weather. That’s one reason the space center is located in Florida.
I was about 15 1/2 when it happened. I was in the school library during study hall and a teacher came in and put the tv on, and we saw a replay just after it happened. It’s been all these years and I still remember sitting around that table with my friends, in shock. Shuttle launches had, to us, become routine. The only reason this launch was such a big deal was because of McAuliffe. She was a true American sensation. “Challenger, go at throttle up.” And then they were gone. “The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honored us by the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and `slipped the surly bonds of Earth to touch the face of God.” –President Reagan
Will never forget that day. I am an Australian and on the evening (its evening here when it is morning in Texas, some 12 hours difference) of the launch, for some reason, I have switched on the television while doing some office work. When launch time came, I stopped what I was doing to watch and when the Challenger booster and main tank exploded, I knew immediately that something was wrong as I have seen enough previous successful shuttle launches that this flight was not normal. My reaction back then was one of amazed horror as I stared at the images in horror, not quite believing what I was witnessing live. What I couldn’t understand at that very moment was the sound of some people clapping among the crowd of spectators and as the television cameras panned across several faces, some were seen staring skywards in shock while there were some who smiled. I guess that there were those who didn’t know that a monumental tragedy has just occurred and believed what they were perusal was a successful launch. Even though the tragedy happened to an American crew in a country far away from mine, there was still a human bond attached to us here in Australia and for weeks, nightmare visions haunted my thoughts as to what might have happened to the 7 astronauts in their shuttle cabin as it separated from the rest of the space craft and hurtled down to smack into the ocean below. A friend in the aircraft industry told me what he believed would have happened to human bodies that encounter tremendous physical forces in an air crash and it is not a pretty sight.
I worked at Patrick AFB, years after the Challenger Disaster. I meet Astronaut Story Musgrave, who told me about the Challenger Disaster. The main compartment was still intact after the explosion. Astronaut Scobee flew the shuttle until he either black out from excesses g’s or impact into the ocean. I was supposed to be there for Columbia when it landed, but had to take my Mom to the hospital that Saturday.
What a tragic day this was. Millions of people had seen the worst space age disaster in my lifetime. May we honor these brave souls and May God in his infinite wisdom bless them forever.
