  • My GE microwave door has multiple switches. I pulled all of them thinking it would be a good preventative measure just to replace them all. My appliance parts distributor took care in inspecting each one and advised me that only one of was faulty. He had a way of testing them by just slowly triggering the switch to see if the multiple meter would signal a problem with the contacts. He highly recommended that I replace only the one faulty switch advising me that the quality of the new switches are not as good as the old switches. After more than 5 years my microwave was been trouble free.

  • Just wanted to point out that I think Panasonic is one of the only manufacturers of microwaves that uses a variable power inverter, which means its the only one that actually can cook with less powerful ‘zapper’ when choosing a lower power level. VS all the standard microwaves will cycle 100% power on & off more or less frequently depending on the power level you select. You can hear the zapper cycle on/off when cooking on a power level less than 10. Variable power on the other hand is just like cooking at a lower temperature, and thats what Panasonic allows.

  • Do you have any thoughts regarding the superiority of 2 compressor and/or 2 evaporators in refrigerator/freezers? They are sold as having better cooling control leading to less food waste. For such a major difference, you often have to dig to find out what fridges have what setup. Perhaps it’s simply reflected in price.

  • We have a 22 year old Whirlpool top freezer fridge that works just fine…..except for the water draining inside the fridge. There’s no water connected to the ice maker, which is shut off, so it’s pure condensation. It drips from the back of the fridge where there’s openings from the freezer. We’ve put 2 plastic cups that have to lean forward to catch the dripping water and still, it often drips onto the shelves and egg cartons get wet or even freeze into ice. I know if I put too much in the freezer and it doesn’t allow the air to circulate, I pay for it in the form of a waterfall in the fridge. Can this be repaired? Help!

  • I have an LG washer dryer combo and that thing SUCKS. The pump goes out so often that I keep 2 or 3 spare pumps around now, and the pump is almost entirely made of plastic despite having to run hot water through it. No other part has given me trouble but that stupid pump has a life of 3-4 months average

  • the ice maker being outside of the freezer ie in the corner of your refrigeration section often freeze up they build up humidity and just freeze over. in the door ice in general is not a great idea. ice maker in a bottom freezer does great. and water in the fridge but not in the door works great. in the door is just asking for it.

  • Forget the ice in the frige…if you really love ice, then get an ice maker outside of the frig. FYI-LG as of today 5/2024, are still using the Linear compressor on the French door models and some side/sides. LG launched a new compressor in late 2023 called a ‘Smart Inverter Compressor’. It’s a variable power compressor, uses less electricity, it’s more similar to the compressors that the rest of the manufacturers use. It can be found in some fridges but you will have to look at the sticker on the back or on the inside to read the words ‘Smart Inverter’. LG has a Counter Depth Column Freezer that is an upright style and it uses the Smart Inverter Compressor. I think this newer Smart Inverter Compressor is a way for LG to move away for the disastrous failure of the Linear Compressor. If LG would use quality components ‘in’ the Linear Compressor then it could be a winner but they have not done this so far.

  • When we remodeled our kitchen we purchased fridge, dishwasher, gas range from a appliance store, instead of big box stores. Went by the salespersons recommendation and bought Samsung! Big mistake! I will never buy anything from Samsung again. I have to manually defrost the fridge twice a year, replaced the ice maker myself. Had to replace 2 of the cheap plastic door bins. Dishwasher has been fine other than a strange burn mark on the stainless front (something inside must have gotten really hot. Range: some kind of board had to be replaced within 6 months, luckily under warranty, had to Jerry rig the knobs that were breaking, and the bottom burner had to be replaced.

  • I’m happy to see that most (if not all) of his recommendations are similar to Consumer Reports. I’m not sure which of the two I’d trust more, but it’s cool that their advice lines up. Can confirm that Bosch dishwashers are worth it for how quiet they are, and my old LG front-load washing machine was incredibly good. I also had all GE appliances in a previous house that all lasted 15+ years. I had the water line to my old GE fridge break once, however, and flood my kitchen. I really want to know which brands have the safest water line connection, because the idea of coming home to a flooded house still haunts me.

  • Truth to the fact that LG makes good laundry machines and bad fridges. In the time that we’ve had LG washer and dryer we are now on our fourth fridge: 2 Whirlpools and an LG, now replaced with a GE. Whirlpools mainly had ice and defrost issues that I attribute to bad design. The LG only lasted four years and was at least the dreaded linear compressor issue, They are still throwing parts at it and support is a pain. From my testing, the control board doesn’t appear to be putting out the correct voltage the compressor has an inverter circuit control its operation. Over complicated design in my opinion. I heard another tech mention recently to look at the schematic diagrams if you can and buy one with a simpler looking schematic. Less problems to be had.
