California Ranch (1935–Present) is an architectural style loosely based on early Spanish Colonial precedents in the American southwest, with influences from Craftsman and Prairie modernism. The first dwellings were simple vernacular adaptations of the Greek Revival style, with split pilasters and posts supporting their front porches, long narrow windows, and multi-light windows with simple architraves. They usually had four rooms in the main portion of the house, with an ashed-roofed kitchen attached to the rear. This style remained popular in Sonoma County from the 1850s to the early 1900s, with variations such as more or less-steeply pitched rooflines, larger structures, second stories, and differing architectural decoration.
