  • I can’t wrap my brain around using baking soda with vinegar. Why? Because one is an acid and the other is alkaline. Meaning you are cancelling out the acid. ?? That’s why when pros use muriatic acid in water to do concreate cleaning and prep for sealing, there is no baking soda in the equation. Yes mixing the two ingredients creates that chemcal reaction releasing gas. But I would rather pick a cool day, before the sun comes out, use water, vinegar, and a little soap and just brush the area with a deck brush and let it stay wet for at least 15 to 30 minutes. Then use baking soda and water mixture to neutralize the acid. Let that sit for a while and then hose it all off.

  • Thank you for the demonstrations and advice. I’m washing my cement front porch and back patio, and I’ll be using your dish soap and water technique. My back patio is pretty good size and instead of renting a pressure washer, I’ll just use a “deck broom” to scrub in the dish soap then rinse it. Thanks again for the article. 👍👍
