Ways To Keep An Inside Fuse Box Clean?

To clean a corroded fuse box, turn off the main power, remove the fuses, clean with a wire brush and vinegar, and reinstall the fuses. Regular maintenance can prevent further corrosion and ensure proper electrical functioning. Fuse boxes, also known as breaker panels, play a crucial role in controlling the interior cabin lighting. In this video, we will show how to remove and replace a fuse and relay box, which are typically found under the hood and in the passenger footwell.

To clean fuse box terminals, inspect them for dirt, debris, or corrosion, and use a wire brush to clean it off. Place a drop of oil on each terminal to help. Remove all fuses from the fuse box using a fuse puller or needle nose pliers, then spray the inside of the fuse box with rubbing alcohol vigorously until alcohol is dripping or running out. Disconnect the battery, remove the fuse (and others), check for more corrosion, and spray with contact cleaner. If there is still remnants, use a brush or pick.

Use a toothbrush-sized brass bristle brush to clean the fuse contacts. A wire brush attachment in a Dremel type tool works well, but a wire brush attachment in a Dremel type tool is best. Clean all connections that look corroded. Before reinstalling the fuses, use a dry cloth to repeatedly clean the holder’s springs or an electrical contact cleaner. Use an old toothbrush for scrubbing.

For copper corrosion, soak overnight in lemon juice and salt solution, warm it in the microwave first. The video shows how to replace blown fuses in the interior 2009 Honda CR-V fuse box and provides the fuse panel diagram location. It is essential to have your owner’s manual available and know which box you need to replace.

  • Saludos amigo ! Ive watch a couple of your articles and I can tell you got alot of mechanic knowledge under your belt !!! I hope you can help me out with a problem; I have a 2008 dodge charger, D starter got replace for sum failure cranking up, it seems like the positive cable was loose and it touched the ground from the engine,, it started a fire, we found the issue secured it,, came back to live BUT after a while of driving the car it when into LIMP MODE now I don’t have a clue of what could be the problem. Any of you old farts relate to this

  • Well that was a waste of 4:13 minutes you could see the cleaner evaporate immediately and the pipe cleaner was too big to penetrate the harness instead try reenergizing the circuit ie disconnect the battery ect. And soak the plug end into baking soda water solution and use an old toothbrush to agitate then use compressed air to dry.

  • NEVER BUY A DODGE AGAIN ****I have a dodge challenger 2014 and i had to fix so many items in this car that is ridiculous. Ac, compressor Ac controls Time chain Water pump twice Head lamps relay Sun roof mechanisms and sensor Smart glass (windows auto up) TIPM (part of computer? $1700.00 Trunk release mechanism Check engine light multiple times Etc Etc. Is for sale heap and will be my very last dodge/Chrysler vehicle i buy.

  • The TIPM looks slightly different on my 2005 Ram 1500 where the main power is at the end furthest from the fender, but it has the main power connection, and it is corroded. I am having little success getting that nut loose. I am soaking it in PB Blaster, but there is not much holding it except the plastic case of the TIPM and the way it is connected to the circuit board it connects to so it isn’t like I can put a huge amount to force on it. It is surrounded by plastic, so heat is not an option. Any suggestions other than continuing to soak it in penetrating oil in hopes it will eventually make its way in enough to get it broken free?

  • My turn signals would occasionally stop working for no apparent reason and would only work after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery for my 2007 dodge caliber, so I took out the POS TIPM, found a few of the pins had some green corrosion, sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner until the green was gone (let it dry of course) and so far ZERO ISSUES. Thanks to your article I was able to remove the connectors without breaking them and do a good cleaning. (Edit, there appeared to be no corrosion on the circuit board so I didn’t take it apart further then the top cover and fuses)

  • 2005 1500 dodge ram 5.7 they replaced the fuse box n FBC but nothing works no wipers or single lights or horn windows do drivering lights do but when I try to scan it with OB2 soon I pug in scanner everything works but my pcm is from 07 4×4 5.7 my truck is 05 2w 5.7 truns on but no cluster works it just flickers so I’m getting a pcm it say no link wat is it

  • Thank you for the article. I am having electrical issues with my 08 dodge 1500 . I replace the battery, alternator and the starter. It will turn on for about 4x during the day then nothing.. just click click… I am frustrated. They said change the ignition relay but it’s seem my truck doesn’t have one or I just don’t k know where it is located. Can you help me

  • I have an 04 3500 that I’m having some electrical issues with. I cannot control the headlights/running lights most of the time, most of the time they turn themselves on and off, etc without my intervention. This happens whether the truck is running or not. I’ve replaced the headlight switch in the dash and checked all the various connectors for corrosion and it’s still doing it. Do you think corrosion in the TIPM could be causing this?

  • I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500. My wipers and windows won’t function normally. Dash has all fault lights on. If I turn the wiper knob toward me and press on the the window buttons on the driver door, that makes my wipers go. I can only open and close the passenger window if the wiper knob is turned toward me and that’s the only window that will move.. Could this be the tipm or corrosion on it? No auto electrician I’ve spoke to has seen this problem.
