Interior design pricing schemes vary depending on various factors, including hourly rates, per square foot, room rates, and percentage-based charges. Some companies charge a flat rate for projects, while others charge per room or by the hour. The cost of an interior designer depends on factors such as room size, use, design complexity, and furniture quality.
The average cost for an interior designer is between $50-$500 per hour, with an hourly fee of around $150. For a full, designer-done makeover without major renovations, materials, or pieces, you can expect to spend close to $6,000 per room.
In India, interior designers can range from Rs. 40 to 400 per square feet. For gut-renovating, the cost is around $10 per square foot. For a single room, prices usually start around $2,000. To design an entire house, expect to pay over $5,000.
The pricing fee for interior designers and decorators is not standardized, and it is wildly all over the lot. Interior designers make indoor spaces functional, safe, and beautiful by determining space requirements and selecting essential and decorative elements. The average cost to hire an interior designer is about $5500 for full-scale services for one room in the home.
In summary, interior design pricing schemes vary greatly, with different models and fees depending on factors such as room size, use, design complexity, and furniture quality. It is essential to consider these factors when hiring an interior designer to ensure a successful and cost-effective project.

What’s the difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator?
Interior design and interior decorating are distinct concepts. Interior design is the art and science of understanding people’s behavior to create functional spaces within a building, while interior decorating is the furnishing or adorning of a space with decorative elements to achieve a certain aesthetic. Interior designers may decorate, but decorators do not design. The process follows a systematic and coordinated methodology, including research, analysis, and knowledge integration, to satisfy the needs and resources of the client. They must respond to the building shell, physical location, and social context of the project to create spaces that improve the experiences of the occupants.
What is the scale of fees for an interior designer?
An interior designer’s percentage of project cost can range from 10 to 45, with an average of 15 to 30. This includes materials, furnishings, and contractor fees. The designer adds their design fees to this cost, typically with a 20 to 35 mark-up on purchases and services. This billing method is straightforward and involves providing a cost estimate for the entire project, including furnishings, finishes, installation, and contractor fees. The designer must provide the client with copies of all vendor invoices and be transparent.
Another option is a “design for a day” fee, typically for eight hours of work, which averages $600 to $2000. This fee is ideal for small, specific projects like furniture placement, color consultation, or shopping trips.
How do interior designers measure rooms?
Accurate room measurement is crucial in interior design, as it ensures furniture fits perfectly and creates a harmonious and visually appealing space. To measure the length of a room, start at one corner and extend the tape measure to the opposite wall, ensuring it remains straight and level. Record the length in feet and inches (or cm/m) and repeat this process for the width of the room.
Incorrect room measurements can lead to furniture misfitting, cramped or disproportionately spaced spaces, and logistical headaches. Designers should educate their clients on their responsibility to accurately measure their space, and ensure their contract agreements outline this responsibility. Mydoma offers measuring and installation guide templates to help make this process easier. By following these guidelines, designers can make the most of their interior design endeavors and avoid potential issues that may arise.

This is absolutely Gorgeous! The outside design is stunning as is the inside. Warm, cosy, inviting, you also had the Perfect Autumn weather for it too. The wood and waterfall is beautiful too. Never mind staying, I could Live there ❤ The ladder would be no good for me though, a different staircase type would probably be better for a large percentage of people too. Absolutely stunning place ❤
Absolutely gorgeous dome! I love the windows, both downstairs and in the bedroom loft, as well as the living room furniture which looks so cozy. The kitchen is lovely too as is the bathroom with its walk-in shower. I noticed that there was a railing going downstairs, so is that for stairs for folks who don’t feel comfortable climbing ladders (I’m 70 years old and would find it a challenge). The woods, wood-burning jacuzzi hot tub, fire pit, and path through the woods are are spectacular. Thanks for sharing. Jenny Seattle, WA
