Recipes For Creating Pepper Spray At Home?

Pepper spray is a chemical mixture that can cause severe pain and irritation when in contact with the eyes. It can also incapacitate some individuals. To make your own homemade pepper spray, you need to follow the right materials, careful procedure, and strict attention to detail. This DIY pepper spray is relatively easy to make and can be used for various purposes.

To make your own pepper spray, mix all the extracts from both the chillies and the pepper in a glass, add about 20 ml of water, and color it with any desired color. For a homemade spray, add 2 tablespoons of cayenne pepper to a small cup and submerge it in rubbing alcohol.

A dish-detergent bottle filled with bleach can be used to nonfatally disable anyone out to 10 ft and provide several long-lasting effects. To make your own pepper spray, take little water so that the chillies are barely floating and crush them using a spoon. You can use rubbing alcohol, vinegar, or plain water for making your spray.

To make your homemade pepper spray, follow these steps:

  1. Gather materials: Mix hot peppers, alcohol, water, and a spray bottle.
  2. Pour in the peppers: Rub alcohol into a glass and mix thoroughly.
  3. Add oil: Mix the mixture by adding oil to the bottle.
  4. Spray the mixture into the air: Spray the spray into the air and let it dry.
  5. Use your homemade pepper spray as a self-defense weapon and enjoy its benefits.

What are the ingredients in pepper spray?

Tear gas and pepper spray are non-lethal agents used to subdue combative individuals. The most common agents are o-chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile (CS), chloroacetophenone (CN), and oleoresin capsicum (OC). This activity discusses the evaluation and management of these agents, the role of the interprofessional team in evaluating, treating, and improving care for patients with this condition, and the pathophysiology of their exposure and associated medical conditions and emergencies.

Can you use lemon juice as pepper spray?

To create a non-lethal pepper spray, mix ingredients and add irritants like soap or lemon juice. Allow the mixture to settle overnight and filter it with cheesecloth or coffee filters to prevent sediments from clogging the spray nozzle. Place the spray in a capped bottle and tighten the lid with tape. Test the mixture by lightly spraying it on a wall, keeping eyes and skin protected. Keep eyewash liquids and soaps nearby for emergencies.

Use a pressurized spray can, but preparation takes practice and equipment. Store the spray at room temperature and use it with caution. This self-defense weapon can be used with caution and wisdom, ensuring a safe and sound day.

How is police pepper spray made?

Pepper spray is made from capsaicin, a compound derived from the fruit of Capsicum plants, including chilis. It is extracted using an organic solvent like ethanol, which is then evaporated to produce the oleoresin capsaicin. An emulsifier like propylene glycol is used to suspend capsaicin in water, which is then pressurized to create an aerosol pepper spray. Some sprays may use an alcohol base for a more penetrating product, but this poses a fire risk if combined with a taser. Defining the strength of pepper sprays can be confusing and difficult, as company statements about product strength are not regulated.

Is pepper spray bad for self-defense?

Personal protection and self-defense methods should be enhanced by physical fighting skills and awareness. It is not recommended to rely solely on weapons or personal protection devices like pepper spray or mace for self-defense against rape aggression or other violent criminals. Before purchasing a pepper spray or other defensive spray, check with local and state law enforcement agencies to identify any restrictions.

Pepper spray should be kept away from children, and manufacturers place a shelf life on each canister due to pressure linkage. Regular shaking of canisters is essential to maintain chemical mixture and effectiveness. Exposure to extreme heat or cold is not recommended. An assailant must be within range of the spray canister, with an average range ranging from four feet to 15 feet. Maximum effectiveness is within 10 feet, depending on the type of spray canister delivery method and pressure.

Pepper spray, also known as Oleoresin Capsicum (OC), has its origins in ancient military history, with Chinese use against enemy soldiers in 311 BC and Greek fire in 673 AD. It was first used on catapults in 1200 AD and in the American Civil War. In the 1990s, law enforcement began replacing Mace canisters with OC, which became popular for personal safety since the early and mid-1990s.

What is the strongest pepper spray in the world?

Fox Labs is renowned for its pepper sprays, including their flagship formula, ONE POINT FOUR, which is the only true police strength pepper spray on the market. This oil-based spray offers greater distance and stronger impact effects. Fox Labs’ legacy formula, FIVE POINT THREE, is one of the most carried by law enforcement, correctional officers, and the US military. The most popular formula is MEAN GREEN, a powerful pepper spray with a staining green dye for easy assailant identification. Both formulas are essential for everyday carry and are considered the industry leader.

Is it legal to use pepper spray in Germany?

Pepper spray, a powerful repellent, can be used by individuals as young as 14 years old, but only against animals in Germany. If not, it is considered a weapon and possession is illegal. However, it is allowed in self-defense situations. If you have a pepper spray or CS spray without these features, it is advised to hand it over to the police. If you order from the EU abroad, inquire about the legal situation of the purchase and possession of the offered defense sprays, as some countries classify them as illegal weapons and can lead to high penalties. The durability of the sprays and their usage frequency are also important considerations.

Is hairspray a good alternative to pepper spray?

Pepper sprays are effective for distances of 12 feet or more, whereas most household sprays lack this capacity, rendering hair spray and deodorant ineffective. The use of bee killers has been demonstrated to be an effective method of deterrence.

What is stronger than pepper spray?

What is stronger than pepper spray?

Bear spray and pepper spray are both made with the same active ingredient, oleoresin capsicum, but their strengths differ. Pepper spray is designed to temporarily incapacitate a human attacker, while bear spray contains a higher concentration of the active ingredient and is designed to be shot at a further distance. Bear spray can cause swelling of a bear’s mucous membranes, shortness of breath, and psychological effects such as panic, causing the bear to turn away and seek relief from the nearest water source.

Bear sprays are approved by the EPA for use against bears in the wilderness, while SABRE pepper sprays or Protector dog sprays are recommended for everyday situations. The strength of pepper spray is determined by measuring the Major Capsaicinoids level, which is a better indicator of heat than oleoresin capsicum percentages. Pepper sprays range from 1. 0 (Dog Spray) Major Capsaicinoids to 1. 33 (Human Spray), while Bear Sprays measure 2. 0 Major Capsaicinoids.

Is it illegal to carry around pepper spray?

When purchasing pepper spray or pepper gel, it’s crucial to understand the laws in your state. While pepper spray is legal in all 50 states for personal protection, some states and localities have specific regulations and restrictions. For example, in Alaska, pepper sprays and gels are prohibited for sale to minors or online, and users must be at least 21 years old to carry them on school property.

What is as effective as pepper spray?

What is as effective as pepper spray?

Pepper gel is a product similar to pepper spray, but made with a thicker substance and a more targeted stream, allowing it to travel further and reduce wind blowback. It has the same effects on the attacker, including inflammation to the eyes, skin, and nose. Reduced wind blowback is important as it reduces the chance of spraying back towards the user after deployment. The pepper spray stream reduces cross-contamination, making it safer to use indoors or on windy paths.

Both formulations are made with oleoresin capsicum, and an independent study by the University of Utah found that variability rates in active ingredient concentration in pepper sprays can be up to 30% effective. As climate changes, so does the strength of red peppers, affecting the effectiveness of pepper spray. SABRE, an industry-exclusive laboratory, tests every batch scientifically to ensure that every SABRE canister meets its maximum strength formulation range requirements, providing peace of mind, certainty, reliability, and safety when needed.

  • PLEASE DON’T SPRAY YOURSELF. IT COULD ACTUALLY KILL YOU. I’ve been making pepper spray for years for personal protection. I put it in a shampoo bottle and decorate it with beautiful decoupage. Some sit on my counter as a lovely decoration. The small size of the shampoo bottle allows me to carry it everywhere I go and I always have many on hand and in the car. I use vinegar to extract the capsaicin as it will give it an indefinitely long life span. Also use a little dish detergent soap as an adjuvant to spread it around (like you use the oil). Did not know about Carolina reaper peppers. will order some immediately and grow them so they will always be in supply. Great article.

  • I love how the government takes away people’s right to self-defense even regarding non-lethal stuff. Almost as if they want you to be completely reliant on them. Also funny how anything related to prepping, hunting/fishing,etc are all demonetized websites. Again, almost as if they don’t want to being self-reliant but rather reliant on them.

  • Take your pure capsaicin oil, mix with mineral oil and put into garden fogger. Make sure you are up wind of target and start dispersing crowds of trash. Might want full facemask protection as the fog will likely come back you at some point. Could also be used to clear rooms, buildings, or other enclosed spaces.

  • Please use rubber gloves. If you had an issue while making this, and had it on your hands you could make the situation so much worse. If you have kids or pets you should also grab a tarp. Baking soda or corn starch will neutralize capsaicin. Have some mixed with water to make a paste before you start.

  • 1. Use Vodka. The rubbing alcohol is methylated and poisonous. 2. When you add whatever amount of oil, also add a little dish soap to render the alcohol and oil miscible or they will not blend. All told, I would wager that different active components in the peppers will dissolve in water, alcohol and the oil component. Using Vodka and oil would be a good pairing, IMHO.

  • The moment I saw you pushing the peppers in the jar with your bare hand, I cringed! My neighbor grows Carolina Reapers (he is an odd duck who loves really hot peppers) and, as a favor for sharing lots of his garden with me, I dehydrate them for him to store. These are the one item I go nowhere near without donning latex gloves and safety glasses. And I keep the dehydrator outside on the garage apron the whole time!

  • I season my food with Carolina Reaper which as you probably know reaches over 2 million scoville units. That’s as high as law enforcement pepper spray. I used to dry and grind fresh Carolina Reaper peppers into a fine powder to season my food and I can tell you that it was strong enough to clear the house when I used to grind my own. I used an electric grinder that had a rubber seal and even with that enough got into the air to clear the house. For that reason I now buy pure Carolina Reaper already in powder form. I’ve thought about using it for the purpose you mention here, but here in the U.S. we can just buy pepper spray. I do like to tinker though so this has sparked my interest.

  • I’m an Aussie. So… Gun ownership is difficult. Although i have held a firearms licence once, when I was on a property. This is pure gold. I know of people who have used pepper dust straight on a fence…. she worked at the hospital where 2 boys came in with burnt talliwhackers. They lived behind her!!! Needles to say. She hasn’t had any fence hoppers since.

  • To get the most out of the chilli you can use oil to pull the capsaicin out, grind the chilli and put it in a small heavy base sauce pan, cover with a thin layer of oil and cook over a very low heat. This will infuse the oil..it’s easier to filter too. you can then use this extreme chilli oil added to isopropanol or vinegar as pepper spray

  • I learnt just yesterday that the kids in Ireland when the police / army attacked them they used a DIY defensive liquid. Made of black gloss / oil based paint, some cooking oil to thin it out and sand. This would cover their face shields and then sctratch the hell out of it when theyr tried to wipe it off. But even better still the oils and grit totally fucked with their guns too.

  • I set up a rig for my car that has a 16 gallon tank in the trunk with a 12-volt 2 GPM pump connected to a 4 Way splitter. I have a nozzle at the bottom corner of front and back windshields that you cannot see unless you’re looking closely. It will soak a 20 ft circle around the car and you don’t want to be anywhere near or downwind of that. I learned the hard way that it’s best to make sure your air conditioner is on recirculate and then turned off before you hit the switch though.

  • You can empty a CO2 fire extinguisher by simply spraying it all out. Then unscrew the valve assembly and open up the tank. Put in frozen solid CO2 dry ice and your pepper spray liquid. Beware of overfilling, so you will have to weight out the correct amount of co2 and use the proper volume of liquid. This is a very workable solution. If you overpressurize the blow out disk will pop. Don’t do this inside, not near you, expose the tank to hot temps to see if it blows out, etc. This is not enough info but its a starting point

  • Interesting fact: you can distill poison ivy into a quite potent oil. Basically the same method as making your own essential oil but instead of lavender you use poison ivy leaves. The effect of course is not immediate but delayed approximately 12-24hrs however lasts much longer than pepper spray. Pro tip: NEVER attempt to distill poison ivy unless you are 100% immune to it… like I am.

  • I used to teach (lab) science. Chemistry, biochemistry. All I can say about technique, gold star for the mother-of-invention use of every item in the kitchen 🤣, perhaps a little more safety equipment could have been used (gloves! Goggles! ) Also you can let the blitzed mix settle for a few minutes before decanting the top layer through a fine filter. Or you could use Jcloths, or even a piece of old sheet in a jelly- straining funnel and leave to.drip overnight. I would keep the paste for another extraction too. But otherwise, not a bad process. I’ll be marking homework later….

  • You’ve put a smile on my face, cause I’m a “pepperhead” and know what this article is going to cost you. I’ve used pepper spray to keep animals away from areas for years. Though a longer process, this one maybe easier and less painful. Grind the peppers and then place in a bowl, then place in the fridge. After letting the mash sit for several days, the oil will separate to the surface, where it can be spooned off. Take this oil and mix with about 2 to 3 times the amount of water. Yes, I know oil and water don’t mix, but then put in several drops of good dish soap(personally use Dawn,) then into the spray canister it goes. It may not be as potent, but surely will do the job. It also doesn’t use precious commodities up, like the oil and alcohol, which surely will come in handy down the road.

  • I grow ghost peppers and reapers to make fermented sauces and hot pepper powder for cooking. An interesting use for any extra peppers I might have. A local pub near me infuses a 5 gallon jar of vodka with reapers. I’m talking a jar full of reapers. Each jar goes for a year before being moved to the kitchen to make wing sauce.

  • One year in my garden we had a plethora of peppers. I took a few of the jalapenos and ghost peppers and Carolina reapers and allowed them to dehydrate fully. Once cracker dry I ran the grinder and mulched them into dust. I cracked the seal on the container and the fume wofting from it was like chemical warfare. The entire house was evacuated! I got it sealed up in a jar. The idea was if I ever needed a legitimate grenade for anything I had this pepper puppy.

  • I am not Rambo, I do not lie to myself and think I could run out of my ammo and still be alive. That would mean being in a LOT of gunfights and surviving ALL of them. The best way to avoid losing a gunfight is to not be in one. After that have a gun, have a big gun, bring all of your friends who have guns, don’t be stingy with the ammo.

  • We have in the past considered making a HUGE batch of that pepper spray and rigging up a system that would inject it into our underground sprinkler system that surrounds about an acre of our house on our multi-acre rural property. If TSHTF and unwelcome intruders encroach the house then we could fire up the generator, or use the solar/battery power, and activate the well and sprinkler system and bring them to their knees (or their writhing on the ground in agony)! It would make it a simpler and hopefully non-lethal way to deal with unwanted intruders.

  • Capsaicin spray is an excellent intermediate defensive tool. Being trained and practiced with your CCW pistol is excellent, but if attacked by a group, this will be the more efficient way to fight all of them. And in the evenf of more localized disruptions(like a soccer riot), this is a great less-lethal tool to defend your property that won’t carry the same weight of legal ramification as shooting a dozen protestors from your porch witb an AR-15. When I built my house, one of the intrinsic security features I included was spray bars(like supermarkets use for produce) at all of my entryways. They’re great for misting water on hot days for the kids playing in the yard, and for my wife’s humidity-loving plants around the entry. But I also have a spare line in the basement to connect to a reservoir, and I experimented with a few variations of this kind of recipe to make sure it was fine enough to pump and spray through the system.

  • If you take already just tabasco you send them to the hospital with eyes shade and it’s legal in all countries, and can always say that you grab the first thing you found. If you absolutely want to make your chemistry lab, onion juice ⅓, ghost pepper ⅓, lemon juice ⅓. But you will need to call 911 and have a good insurance to pay the costs of surgery 🤣

  • We don’t have guns where I’m at. I do have a potted chilli plant that produces those small red chillis for my personal consumption. Not as potent as the stuff you use, but I’ve accidentally stung my own eyes after absent-mindedly brushing my eyes with my hands after cutting a few up to remove the seeds. Even a very diluted solution of water and chilli seeds will hurt and be difficult to wash off. Just remember to buy a few super soakers for better accuracy and effect.

  • I made salsa for work. The ingredients included every chili pepper sold at a Mexican grocery store, about six different varieties. Diced and mixed with tomatoes, onion, cilantro and allowed to slake in frig over night. One person tried it, run outta the room and returned with his tongue submerged in an ice filled a big Gulp.

  • As Nate said capsaicin molecules are soluble in alchohol and the alchohol spreads the burn further around. You know the wives tale where your told not to drink water if you have spice because it will make it worse, well, water won’t as capsaisin is not soluble in water but the alchohol will make the effects of spice many times worse.

  • dude…..i have been through the gas hut in marine training and that was brutal. been sprayed with oc10 as part of training with the sheriffs dept and that was every bit as bad. I think you need to do this for yourself and anything that shows up in your subs is just icing on the cake. Have fun with that!!!

  • Nate, it’s been a while since I’ve seen one of your articles. This was a good one to watch. We all know bear spray has been getting pricey, and sometimes a bit hard to find. If you’re gonna make yourself some capsaicin spray, one other way that you could test it, it’s on those sore, achy muscles. Particularly now that we’re getting into the winter and it’s gonna be the time of the year when at least so much shovelling is necessary. you just put a little on the Muscles, and rub it in. Perhaps wear a glove It takes a few minutes to kick in, but it’s good stuff. If I may make a suggestion, definitely don’t think about putting it on right before or after a hot soak. The effect is greatly amplified under those conditions. Edit: The article has come up on my feet again, and it occurs to me to mention that water is not a thing r Dispersion of capsaicin: for that you need milk. Facebook of milk we do a whole lot more good than a face full of water, which is lonely spread the problem. Thanks again for the great article.

  • Hope you get a million Subs but you PLEASE don’t use on yourself However if you have in-laws make-em some wings using your leftover sauce. Also for a more humane mix use everclear, vodka or any high proof alcohol to keep from possibly permanently damaging someone eyes. But if your not concerned about others just use Muriatic Acid instead of pepper spray. Stay Safe & Good Luck

  • Raid max sells roach spray in a spray bottle just like a y bathroom spray cleaner, except, the trigger is battery powered and has a small pump in it that squirts continuously when you squeeze the trigger. Just dump the roach spray out, because using any chemicals in a way different than the directions on the bottle is a crime. So refill it with your pepper spray. I use amonia in a mini super soaker😂

  • I plan to work on making 5-10 gallons and storing in in five gallon buckets. With a pressurized garden sprayer, I can spray the leaves and brush on the side of the trail going to my campsite. Not going to do this anytime soon…….but in a SHTF scenario, it would be a great “area denial” tool if 30 looters are headed my way.

  • My mate made one from a pint of fermented piss and 2 spoons of Reaper pepper powder, in a sports drink bottle. He can just flip the lid, pretend to be about to take a swig then strike first. It’s so potent he leaves it on the patio behind his house, he can’t take a chance on it being in the house and anything happening, he carries it when he’s cycling. He reckons anyone sprayed with it will have to go to hospital cos the concentrated piss is very acidic.

  • I’ve used alcohol to make tinctures but not rubbing alcohol. I guess it doesn’t matter if you’re not ingesting it though. BUT, If you let the ground peppers sit in vodka (or any 90 proof) for about 6 weeks (I know, a LONG TIME) it will pull ALL of the evil out of those peppers! I keep Cayenne tincture in all the vehicles and in my emergency med kit. I’ve used it and you talk about HOT! and it’s not even the hottest I can buy. I’ll be making my own soon as I had an over abundance of them in the garden last year that are dried and ready to go. I almost positive I could use the tincture process for this and just leave the alcohol in it and then add the oil or dish detergent to make it stick. P.S. Just getting that oil (from the peppers) on your skin will burn you so be careful! Also, NATE! Water spreads the oils. MILK is what you want to rinse your mouth out with or eat some bread.

  • Pepper spray is very effective for incapacitating an assailant. However, the indigenous Amerind tribal warriors also used to chew tobacco leaves, & spit the juice into their enemies eyes, temporarily blinding them. Any smoker who has accidentally rubbed their eyes with nicotine-stained fingers will know how this feels. Recipe: simply soak a bunch of used cigarette butts in water, extract the brown liquid, & decant to a spray bottle, no other ingredients needed, much safer & easier to make & handle. Ok, it doesn’t have the potency of pepper spray, but will do if pepper spray ingredients not available.

  • I was trained to carry pepper spray when I was in the military, which also included legal training on the ramifications of using said pepper spray, unless you fully understand all possible outcomes from using it you should not be playing around with it in any capacity. After you use pepper spray on someone, especially if it’s high power or concentrated like this person is claiming, you are legally responsible for their care. This is not the same thing as a firearm. It also is considered a deadly weapon and if you use it in response to anything less than threat of life you open yourself up to being charged with a crime/lawsuit. It’s not a very practical weapon unless you are trained, you are using to disperse a crowd of people and/or they are using deadly force against you. But if they’re doing that you really want a firearm to begin with.

  • One time i cut up 1 hobenaro for a huge pot of chilli i washed my hands literally 8 or 9 times knowing it was no joke. Well even though I washed them so many times when I went to pee i burned my willy. I had to dip it in milk then sugar water. Fun fact the scholeville scale is how much sugar it takes to counter act the heat. So if you ever eat a hot pepper and start having a hard time eat pure sugar it will counteract the capsaicin

  • Saw this article last year and you inspired me to grow ghost peppers in my garden. We have harvested well over 100 ghost peppers from my 4 plants and will be making this solution soon. Wish me luck. Thanks for all you do and all your info, its been invaluable. Have been seriously prepping for the last year, hopefully we’ve done enough as it seems like SHTF is about to happen any day now. I know your agnostic, but GOD bless you brother! May HE keep you and yours safe! 🙏

  • Great article. I regularly make this, given to daughter for self protection, i carry some in small sprayer containers, purely for self defence should i require use. I use finely ground chillie powders, soaked for 24 hours in vegetable oil. Then use wiping alcohol or similar that has alcohol contents over 70 percent. Leave again for about 24hours. Potency very strong, you don’t want it in your eyes

  • As a complete sadist, with scientific tendencies, this is just a theory.. Capsaicin is an alkaline, meaning it can probably mix well with other alkalines (such as concentrated lye) and oil and soap in your super soaker… With the right nozzle it should create a soapy foam that binds to the target and will be much harder to get off, but reduce aerosolization meaning less collateral damage to you. At least, that’s what I noticed when I observed police using foam on my people protesting in Australia… Also with extra lye it will require a hospital visit, for chemical burns and at such a high concentration will likely destroy eye tissues permanently, so perhaps make it a last resort. 😉

  • this was fun man. i dont know about other people but if you were to venture into DIY survival territory in hopes of improving skills that would be awesome. dont spray yourself though. OC can permanently damage sensitive tissue if concentrated enough. id hate for you to have made some crazy strong concentrate and permenantly damage your nose. eyes and tongue for some views.

  • You ALWAYS wear rubber gloves when working with even a milder pepper! If you had a cut on any of your fingers, you would be having an even worse day. I say this as a cook. ALWAYS wear rubber gloves when working with hot peppers. Please DO NOT spray yourself in the face. We enjoy your articles and would hate to be without you for a week or more.

  • I wa in the military for 9 years …did a combat tour in 1970 with the 2/502 Inf 101st Airborne. I walked point my whole tour and was also the team sniper. YOU DO NOT WANT TO SHOOT ANOTHER HUMAN! End of story. I have been in tear gas a few times and it’s blinding and you are pretty helpless after being hit…. if you work nights or could be in danger, get the pepper spray … nail the person in the face and then run to your car or what ever … I’m 74′ years old and will never forget those faces of the men who’s lives I ended … almost nightly! … even after over 50 years!

  • I have ghost peppers and I make different things with it. I’ve separated the capsaicin from the pepper to make a pain reliever and it does work for arthritis, bruises, pulled muscles ect. I’ve also made something similar to a pepper spray. Take as many peppers as needed and put the whole pepper in a blender and once it is pretty liquidy strain it through a cheese cloth. Now you can put the liquid in a sprayer and use the pulp for anything else. I haven’t sprayed it in my eyes because I’m afraid. But I have tasted it and the burn lasted hours even with milk. Also I’ve dried them out and replaced some of the bbs in my shotgun shells with the powder. That I did shoot into the wind (big mistake) . So just know capsaicin can heal you and hurt you.

  • You’re supposed to waft; Never smell directly if you’re unsure. Also, if you’re gonna make/use this, have a spray bottle of half water, half milk of magnesia in case you get any on you. Once the alcohol evaporates, won’t it mold? Glycerin is sometimes used in place of alcohol to make extracts. I’ve had to use my spray before at very close range (as in, the recipient was right up in my face), and I was super glad it was the gel kind and none got on me. I wonder if using glycerin would make it a similar consistency? Or adding some kind of starch to thicken it? You’d need to get the right type of sprayer for a gel, too, otherwise it might just dribble down your hand and be useless.

  • Has anyone looked at an air rifle with self filled plastic balls? You can really reach out and touch a few people at the same time. Also, look at Cold Fire fire extinguisher. The military use this as a fire extinguisher and a self defense spray because it sucks out all of the air quickly and gets super cold. Wicked stuff!

  • Next article: ” PREPPER BARELY SURVIVES WIFE’S REACTION WHEN SHE LEARNS WHAT HE PUT IN HER NUTRI-BULLET ” (Seriously, you need to clean that thing super-well.) So… here’s where you screwed the pooch. You added the oil before filtering. If you just blended the peppers and alcohol, you could have filtered that thru the sieve and then used just one coffee filter to get all of the pepper juice concentrate. THEN you add in the oil. I really think what you should do is put the peppers and alcohol in the vita-mix and blend to puree… then store that in a canning jar for a few days (7-10), to let the alcohol ferment the peppers. Then you strain it and all the rest. The fermentation process will extract more of the capsaicin oils from the peppers. Then of course, I’d also set the strained pepper juice concentrate in an open container out on the porch (cover with cheese-cloth) and let some of the alcohol evaporate off to leave the concentrate even stronger. Have you considered adding mustard powder and horseradish powder in the mix? Mmmm… tasty!

  • I know, everyone wants the biggest, bestest, etc., etc. 🐻 Bear repellent, right? However, what you really want is an effective deterrent that will work and last a significant amount of time. Shall we make some BDS – “Bear Deterrent Sauce.” Yes, Let’s do this! Hâbeñero, yes hâbeñero pepper and cayenne pepper (Pre-dried is best.) grind to a powder and mixed in a 1:1 ratio by volume. That will give you the heat and duration. If you want to magnify the effects, you can optionally add 100% pure grade menthol crystals and 100% pure food grade Cassia Extract (Cassia is essentially undiluted cinnamon extract.), it will not take much of these two to make your pepper spray an insidiously powerful umm 🐻Bear deterrent. In a sealable half gallon / 2 liter glass container with a small opening such as glass vinegar bottle. Add the following: You need to wear gloves, eye protection, dust mask and have cold milk near by. The whey protein in milk will help in case you get the mixture on your skin, in your eyes or for some unknown reason in your mouth. Whey proteins in the milk locks itself around the capsaicin, keeping it away from you and from doing as bad of aggressive attack. Dry ingredients first. ⅓ cup powdered cayenne pepper, ⅓ cup powdered hâbeñero pepper, (Optional) { 1 tablespoon 100% pure menthol crystals, 1 tablespoon 100% pure cassia These two added to the mix, will increase the the likelihood of the end product being confused with something a little less (eh hemm) – astringent to the eyes, nose, mouth, skin and mucus membranes – – at first.

  • Why not take your “chunky gunk” and leave in either a cheap bottle of alcohol…either vodka or rubbing. Make a serious tincture. Since it’s chopped it will infuse quickly. Put it away for 2 months though giving a good shake daily THEN refilter, rinse out the bottle and refill the bottle (& label) with your spray ready to use when need. Know some will think waste of vodka but it’s really good for infusions and it will sting if you get in eyes or open wounds too

  • Oh my god man….I never screamed at my phone before over your articles. Safety dude, safety, wear gloves, and eye protection at all times….secondly let the solution sit in alcohol overnight but sealed, you will extract more capsaicin, the fine powder will settle and you will be able to pour off the solution better. Then you won’t clog the nozzle. Also obviously sprayers at what most people can get, but if you get something that can aerosolize the solution is will be that much worse

  • Content is good but blaming this point of history on “Communists” is unfortunate. The monopoly winners of capitalism and fiat money brought us to this disturbing point in history. They killed small businesses and outsourced labor to slave wage labor countries but you were too young to understand that as it happened.

  • A few years ago, here in the UK, my mum sent me shopping for pancake stuff…which included a jif lemon squeeze bottle (it is basically a plastic bottle shaped like an actual lemon) on my way home 2 idiots tried to start a fight with me, I flipped the lid on the jif and squirted it in the face of one of them, it went straight in his eyes…let’s just say, he suddenly lost interest in fighting me, and so did his mate who was left looking after his screaming bitch of a mate 🤣

  • We love you Nate! No!!!!! There is NO need to torcher yourself for us! Honestly, I’m Sure that will work! The chip challenge was painful to watch lol Yes, cheesecloth would have been better for the straining. When I was in the Military we had to go through the gas chamber and get sprayed on another day and all I can say is that I never want to do that again lol…whew! I’m interested in that pure evil! God Bless You, the crew, and the families! stay safe!

  • I was chopping Habanero peppers. Had to go pee. Didn’t wash my hands… the effect was Immediate! I turned on the shower and walked in fully clothed! My wife heard commotion upstairs and came in saw me I the shower fully clothed. ” What got into you?” I must have looked I was possessed! I was jumping up and down like if it was going to fall off! Everything including the scrotum was swollen. I never touched anywhere down there. I never bought habanero pepper again . I was abstinent for almost a month.

  • When you add lower capsaicin peppers to higher capsaicin peppers to your mix, you dilute the potency. Stick with the highest potency peppers. If you want to spray a little in your chile, use ethanol. Rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol is poisonous. Also, be careful: isopropyl alcohol in the eyes can cause blindness! It is also flammable. I looked up the boiling point of ethanol alcohol and it is 82 degrees C or 180F. (I would not try to boil isopropyl alcohol since it is flammable.) To eliminate 100% of the alcohol requires about 3 hours of boiling (when mixed with an ingredient, usually food). Of course, alcohol after enough hours will also evaporate at room temperature, but only if the container is left unsealed. I would stick with ethanol. Then you could also use a smidgeon in your cooking without worrying if there was still some unevaporated alcohol in the mixture. Maybe you could find a chemist to test your solution for its exact Scoville Unit count or its capsaicin concentration. Then you would know how it compares to commercial products. And I would not let someone spray me just to up my subscriber count, although if it lands you in the hospital you might be able to get free publicity from your local news reporters. Worth it? Almost certainly not. According to an internet source I just googled: “How hot is bear spray on the Scoville scale? Undiluted, it ranks on the Scoville heat unit scale at 3.2 million to 3.6 million. For reference, habanero peppers hit between 80,000 to 200,000.

  • If you do any time, they have some specialized stuff. The two I remember are crowd control, and CS-5. Crowd control blows out in a wide cone, is orange, sticks to everything it touches, and burns like a sob. CS-5 shoots out in a single stream, but that stuff will clear an entire cell block. I suppose I should say decommission an entire cell block. lol I took on the riot squad at one point, and got hit with the crowd control. That stuff hit my chest with enough force that it billowed out around me, and I got a stream up to my neck. What goes up must come down…. I got a steady stream of that stuff that went down my chest, stomach, and then down you know where. Holy hell that sucked. Every time I peed, it renewed the burn, and showers take about a week to get it off you completely. So, life sucked very badly for a little over a week. I never took CS-5 head on, but my neighbor did in high security. That stuff is potent, and it felt like we was gonna die. lol PS-Do NOT spray yourself with that stuff. It won’t turn out well. I’d use a little of the Pure Evil extract in the mix, close it up, and leave it at that. Then again, you likely have actual sprays on hand, and will be alright if things go south…

  • Just imaging the expression on his face later, when he needs to pee. Even though you washed your hands, there will still be some of that remaining in your skin, especially since you added oil to it, and it can still have some very uncomfortable effects. This is why you should always wear gloves when handling peppers like these.

  • I eat super hot peppers daily with my meals. Dehydrated crushed peppers, not diluted sauce. This has me curious as to how much this will lessen the effects of pepper spray on myself and other chili heads. Oh accidentally getting that stuff in your eyes from touch isnt the worst. Inner ear canal and wanker on fire are worse.

  • where I live you cannot even use this on dogs. If you do you’ll be arrested and charged with animal cruelty. Dogs are SACRED ! And if you make something like this and a neighbour or bad guy notices you have it they can report you to the police and you will be arrested and charged with carrying a ‘weapon’ or ‘going equipped’ to commit a crime. Self defence is always judged to be a criminal offence if you are ‘prepared’ to defend yourself. You have to live your life like a dumb animal waiting to be in attacked before you begin thrashing around hopelessly trying to fend off a raging dog or a mob of violent teenagers.

  • It’s illegal in England, Australia and New Zealand to own and use official police rated pepper spray or mace, the penalty for being found with this prohibited weapon is the same as being in possession of a concealed carry firearm. Big fines and a long prison time. Using something you can make in your kitchen from ingredients brought at the supermarket is not illegal.

  • Pepper spray is legal in Western Australia but in my state it’s not, Western Australia is the only state it’s legal in, I don’t want to take the risk of shipping it from Western Australia to my state so I’m making my own, my reason is self defence, I got assaulted and cops didn’t do nothing, after this article I’ll have a pepper spray more lethal than the stuff on shelf

  • I live in Ontario Canada I grew these peppers in the summer both the Scorpion Trinidad and the ghost peppers, I accidentally touched my face, after dinner preparation and I was convinced I was blind. after the initial burn, clean up and panic, even after showering and going to bed, I. placed my hands between my legs to sleep, you guessed it, my entire legs were stinging burning and numb. I have probably 200 in the freezer now I know I can use them for shtf situations.

  • For a challange for myself I worked my way through the full Chilli scale eating a full chilli of each(full fresh or dried if that’s all I could get) took me around a year to work up to the carolina reaper. If I was making this I would mix Trinidad scorpion with a carolina reaper can’t remember which way around it was but one of them hits you like a punch in the face but dies quickly, the other builds and builds and seems to last a lifetime. I don’t really know the science behind it and maybe it wouldn’t make much difference for this type of thing. But going by the actual chilli’s that’s what I found. The hardest was a curry I made using 1 Carolina reaper 1 Trinidad scorpion and 1 ghost chilli, that was the most painful curry I have every tasted(or not tasted as the case probably was)

  • Wow you’re tough I’d be cryin and hurling for sure! Oh lol 😂 but at the end I see. This is FUN I mean I’m sorry about the pain of course but it’s nice to take a break from all the very serious prepping we have to do now and do the kind of fun stuff. People that don’t prep or just started are like what? But yeah this is the fun stuff.

  • to make this better use DMSO (Dimethyl Sulfoxide) available at the Vet supply section of your farm store. this stuff itself is an eye irritant but this stuff will take what ever you mix with it and put it straight into the muscle when applied to the skin. i make a treatment or arthritis with cyan peppers that i apply with a Q tip swab but it also does a nice job of delivering poison to a person by them touching a door knob!

  • Cotton balls are a really good filter medium for such things. If you’re going to taste test it, pure ethanol is the way to go. 90% isopropyl is easily available. Do the alcohol extraction first. After you get the blend mush, let it soak for a while. An hour is good. Keep the solids, they’re just as potent. I can neither confirm nor deny that they make good filling for paintball pellets. If you’ve used proper ethanol, I can confirm that the dried powder will spice up your chili.

  • After spraying a bad guy tomorrow will come with a gun …….so better have a gun Criminals are prohibited …..all over …….so why if I have a gun, it will not allow me to defend myself A criminal is a criminal whatever is the law THE world morality and laws are upsidedown JEREMIAH CHAPTER 17 VERSES 9 AND 10 With all respect for TRUTH AND KNOWLEDGE

  • I don’t understand … in Canada, the spray you show at the beginning, is only allowed for bears, but you start creating a potion whose effects you don’t know, potentially blinding for life, and according to Canadian law, would this be legal? I’m not saying that whoever attacks you doesn’t deserve it, as far as I’m concerned I would walk around with a gun, I’m speaking on a legal level, if you use something like that, i’m sure, you could be arrested! I’m almost sure that that goo could blind somone for life.

  • I use reaper power to keep squirrels off of my bird feeder. I coated the seeds with an oily mixture and now i just need to shake a little around the feeder. They won’t touch it. 😂 But the stuff is nasty. While handling it I got some on my arms + hands. Bad news. 😢 Then I rubbed my face. 😮 And I used gloves.

  • Pepper Spray and UK Law Firearms Act 1968: According to this act, anything that discharges a harmful substance can be classified as a firearm. This includes pepper spray, which releases a substance that can cause temporary incapacitation. Prohibited Weapons: Pepper spray falls under the category of prohibited weapons. In the UK, owning or carrying a prohibited weapon, including pepper spray, can result in severe legal penalties, including imprisonment. Self-Defense: Unlike in some other countries where pepper spray can be used for personal protection, in the UK, carrying pepper spray for self-defense is illegal. The UK law emphasizes non-lethal alternatives for personal safety, such as personal alarms.

  • I am perusal this to make it for my mother and my girlfriend. The girl from Kolkata who was raped and murdered showed this society is all glittery from outside and hollow from inside. We as a Men has failed 😢 And Yes No girl is safe in India. Until they bans porn, casual sex scenes or explicit content from OTTs, teach their sons how to respect women and yes RAPE is a crime because i have seen guys taking it casually nowadays, make some strict law and implementation is the key

  • This Can is not pressurized, it is only spring loaded pump mechanism, it ability to deliver effectively are quite low, a pressurized can, can deliver constant burst under stressful situation after squeezing the trigger now imagine constantly trying to pump to squirt a spring loaded pump, while you are being attacked and has only lesss than 1 meter range, as compare to pressurized canister has about 5-10 meters range and constant delivery of potent pepper extract. That perfume pump is only going to get the user hurt due to false sense of security .

  • Thanks! Great article, although the pressurized DIY seems to spray further than this little one. OUT OF CURIOSITY, As a women, when faced by a strong tall man agressing you, how much would the fear affect your actions and decisions? I’m very worried that just a tiny spray that needs to be pressed repetitively at 50cm of the opponents eyes won’t do the cut, specially under the threat of someone pointing a knife at you… But I’m a rather strong white male, usually people don’t mess with me, so I can only guess how this would feel. I’m planning on making some for friends in a country that doesn’t sell them, so I’d be interested to have womens feedback on whether a little spray like that can help, or if the fear on the instant would make it too dangerous to use it. I wonder if a pressurized version isn’t better, it just requires one single press and sprays far! There is a few diy articles online, harder to build but more efficient. Good luck for anyone out there living in a country where they will need it. And good on you all for fighting back the aggressions and empowering yourselves, hoping this day becomes someday more liveable for all of us, no matter what gender!

  • I’m sharing this with my neighborhood watch group. We have a mentally ill predator roaming our streets. He has tried to kidnap 3 women and 2 small children. He is knocking on doors pretending to have car troubles following ppl home from the store….. etc . He has approached up to 15 to 20 women.lLadies, arm yourselves too.

  • Unfortunately, while your intentions are good; you’re putting many women in danger with this article. The power of those commercially available spray bottles isn’t enough to properly coat or deliver the spray. Secondly, you would need to thoroughly strain and add enough water for it to even have a chance of releasing from the bottle (also lowering potency). Lastly, on police and military grade sprays, they can be upwards of 5x stronger then some of the hottest peppers in the world, namely the ghost pepper. With this “how to” article these poor women are going to be walking around with fucking table sauce for protection. You will be partially responsible for their rapes.

  • I just wanna point out getting a professional grade spray such as saber would probably be a better choice. It has the power and propellent to reach out and touch someone at a distance. But that’s just my opinion, and it’s assanine that some countries would make pepper spray illegal, so on that note if this is the best ya got at least its something.

  • People who say Indian society isnt safe enough have clearly not travelled the world enough including first work countries, where going out on streets n even trains are dangerous for men, rest alone women. There was no need for that bakwas gyan about Indian society. You could have stuck to you own topic rather than steriotyping a beautiful culture. God bless

  • Violence is horrible towards any person, male or female, but obviously you’re working off the standards within India, being from a country of the greatest ethical understanding, New Zealand, most of our “male assaults female” crimes are due to domestic violence, which we’ve started to work out in a peaceful manner, I’m just grateful that my country has harboured the most important ideal that exists, that’s the empowerment of woman. Because when you empower the woman of the world, there will be no violence and horrific crimes, only empathy and comprehensive abilties. Thanks for making this article, it’s a disgusting realisation to come to for a male of the highest sensitivity and sincerity whenever I see the lack of understanding of others feelings, espeically when it’s against women, who think and feel on a more direct manner over men. Religion is mostly the reason for all of the issues we’ve had to deal with within ethics, it’s a “book for boys” and there’s no religion to date that has differed on the opinion of woman being lower than men, they all claim authority for males, but don’t let this be a negative. I’ve been nutured by women from a very young age, and the mass of the hate that comes from men is fear, fear that the overwhelming feelings and intellectual ability of woman will “burn the fire out”, yet that’s the most harmful ideal ever to touch humanity, one that women have never truly recovered from, but woman will become the mothers of mother earth as I always like to say.

  • The happy look on her face while she mixed a toxic concoction made me lol, you should probably strain the product to prevent clogging of the spray mechanism though; also in certain laws this is classed as an illegal fire-arm, so it is best to know the laws of your given country. I’m a man and men can also be attacked, I have been sexually assaulted by women myself, and anyone can be attacked, it’s more of a mental thing; people will always target the vulnerable or those who won’t fight back. I will not suggest pepper spray for legal reasons, but do what you have to protect yourself; you only have one life and no one will help you once that is gone or damaged beyond repair.

  • This looks it will only make the attacker angry not stop, I don’t think this is a good idea to make this at home, real papper spray sprays 12 feet radius, and this one looks like it will stuck while spraying and you have to pour some on to your hand and then have to try to scrub the attacker’s face with it 😅

  • Hey, I appreciate your effort of making it but I seriously think no one should try it. Firstly it’s not that powerful. Secondly, pepper spray is not used just to cause irritation, and the bottle which you used has a pumping mechanism. It won’t travel more than 0.5 metre ( well the average distance to travel is 10m if you didn’t know). Also it won’t be fast and will not release more content. Being in defence I think you seriously need to invest 200-500 rupees in pepper spray instead of making one at home. It’s durable for 2yrs, reliable and is aerosol powered which makes it spray continuous. If you’ve read so far then make sure you buy one for 500 rs and gift it to your friends irrespective of gender. Thank you all and stay safe. Jai hind
