To remove a locked door knob from the outside, you need to access the set screws located on the interior side of the door. For thumb-activated knobs, remove the screw holding the bottom of the exterior door knob set in place and remove the doorknob. Then, remove the two screws holding the latch into the jamb side of the door and pull the latch out of the door.
Removing a locked door knob from the outside can be tricky, especially when there are no visible screws. However, many modern door knobs are designed to allow for easy access to the door from its hinges. This task can be done in under a minute and requires only a few steps.
To replace a standard exterior doorknob, disassemble and remove the existing one by unscrewing the fasteners on the inside of the door. Gently pull out the faceplate and turn the knob to unlock the door plate. Install the new knob in place starting from the outside or locking side of the door.
The door handle is not the easiest thing to remove, but you can remove it by taking apart the knob from the inside, using a screwdriver to turn the latch, or breaking it out with a hammer or Allen wrench. If the handle has a small hole in the handle, insert a small screwdriver into the small hole and push it into the hole until the latch clicks open.
If your door is locked and you don’t have a key, you can also remove the hinges to gain entry into your house.
