Can you edit KDP after publishing?
The process to update a book depends on its status and the type of change you want to make. The status of your book is available on your bookshelf to the right of the title. For books in “Draft” status, you can make changes to details, content, or cover by retuning to the title setup workflow. For books in “Live” status, some updates can be made in the existing title setup, while others require publishing a new edition. Key terms include deleting, unpublishing, publishing, and updating.
Deleted books have never been published and do not have an ISBN assigned. Unpublishing makes a published book unavailable for purchase on Amazon, while publishing makes a book available for purchase or a new edition after significant changes. Updates can be made directly to the published version on your bookshelf or require publishing a new edition.
What is CreateSpace called now?
All CreateSpace books have been transferred to the Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) platform. To access their books, users are required to follow the instructions provided on the aforementioned page.
How do I edit a KDP file?
To update your book details, go to your KDP Bookshelf, click the ellipsis button next to the book you want to update, choose Edit details, and edit your book details. Save and Continue on the Content page, then click Publish at the bottom of the Pricing page. Your book details, also known as metadata, are used to create your book and detail page. Certain attributes can be updated after publication to fix errors. Note that if your book status is “In Review” or “Publishing”, you won’t be able to update it until it’s “Live” on Amazon.
Is CreateSpace still working?
Amazon has officially closed CreateSpace, causing confusion among users. The company launched KDP Print in 2016 as a replacement service for CreateSpace, which gradually added features and fixed bugs over the years. In 2018, Amazon moved CreateSpace users to the new platform and closed it down to new titles. The company’s decision to close CreateSpace has led to a shift in the way books are published and distributed, with KDP Print becoming the preferred platform for book publishers. Ingram Spark, another alternative to CreateSpace, is also worth considering.
What is the difference between KDP and CreateSpace?
CreateSpace and Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) are Amazon platforms utilized by authors for the self-publishing of books. CreateSpace is an earlier platform for the printing and distribution of paperback books, whereas KDP is utilized for the self-publishing of eBooks and paperbacks.
Can you edit an already published book?
Despite self-editing and beta readers, typos and grammatical errors can be easily missed. If you notice errors or receive feedback from readers, updating your book with a revised manuscript is usually sufficient without requiring a full republishing. The industry standard is to update less than 10 of your interior content, ensuring that readers may not notice the changes. If you self-published through a supported self-publishing service, check with the provider to understand your options.
Many allow a “resub” or resubmission of your manuscript for minor changes, but may incur a fee. Traditionally published authors should consult their publisher to determine if a reprint can occur with the changes. DIY platforms like Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing or IngramSpark should follow their specific guidelines for updating a book, as they may differ for print books, eBooks, and audiobooks.
Do people actually make money with KDP?
Amazon KDP is a profitable business model that allows users to control their time, energy, and income on a monthly basis. While not everyone will be successful, it is a viable option for those looking to start a passive income journey. A free webinar can help discover profitable niches and turn them into thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars deposited into a bank account every month.
The eBook market is also profitable to sell, with thousands of self-published authors and entrepreneurs using KDP to distribute various types of written content, including fiction, non-fiction, and low and no-content books like journals and planners. However, there are some caveats to consider when deciding whether KDP is a viable option for making money in the eBook market.
Is CreateSpace good?
CreateSpace is a free, high-quality platform for self-publishing paperback books, offering the best prices and highest author royalties on Amazon. However, it has limitations such as no hard cover options, limited paper weight choices, poor printing quality, expensive shipping outside the USA, and requiring a social security number or tax ID for account opening. While it is suitable for regular American authors, non-US citizens and those residing abroad may prefer other platforms for hard cover books or heavy paper paperbacks. Therefore, CreateSpace may not be the ideal platform for authors seeking high-quality, low-page count books.
Can a blog be edited after publishing?
Blog posts can be edited post-published, allowing for flexibility and improvement. While a well-written post is crucial, a typo can still impact the chances of success. If you are responsible for all aspects of your blog, such as writing, publishing, and marketing, editing software may be beneficial. However, it is best to edit manually and consider outsourcing if time is limited. One effective way to spot mistakes in written content is to use a grammar checker or a word count tool.
Can you edit a manuscript after submission?
The manuscript may already be under review, so changing it is usually not possible. However, you can edit the metadata, such as adding authors. Authors at JMIR can learn about the process of becoming an author, including the criteria for authorship, editorial oversight, submission guidelines, and how to submit a commentary. They can also learn about the PePR pilot, submission of articles with existing peer-reviews from other journals, cover letters, funding details, and journal sections.
Adding material as supplementary files is possible, but it is not guaranteed that reviewers will see the additional information unless done immediately after submission. The guidelines for authors at JMIR Neurotechnology include guidelines for submitting a commentary, submission to a JMIRx journal, and submission of articles with existing peer-reviews from other journals.
Did Amazon buy CreateSpace?
On-Demand Publishing, LLC, also known as CreateSpace, was a self-publishing service owned by Amazon, founded in 2000 as BookSurge. Acquired in 2005, CreateSpace published books with placeholder text and did not edit or verify them. Books were printed on demand, with each volume produced in response to an actual Amazon purchase. CreateSpace continued publishing services for eight years before being transferred to Amazon’s Media on Demand, publishing 1, 416, 384 books for over 15, 000 authors by 2018.

Thanks for doing this! I LOVE THE TEMPLATES!! I almost want to be greedy and not tell anyone about them but they are so easy to use just as they are. This will help if I want to personalize them a bit more. If anyone is really serious about getting into Createspace, THIS will fast-track your success! It took me HOURS to learn to create my own interior files years ago. Tangent Templates make it almost too easy.
Thank you for the awesome article! I hope you get a chance to do more showing the customization features with AI and InDesign. I have a question (newbie)… When doing a book in black & white for Create Space/KDP, can we upload a greyscale image instead of B&W? So for example, could we use 3 jellyfish, each at as a grey in AI (or PS) instead of the solid black? Or maybe an image that is a gradation of light to dark grey as long as there is no color? Thanks! 🤗
Brilliant article Isaac Thank you. I’m a Canva fan like Katharyne but think it is great to learn new things and you taught it so clearly I feel I might give it a go…Love the ruler for measuring. I’m looking to customise with Alphabets of different styles for children’s handwriting practice. Thanks again 🙂
