Angi Homeservices is a website and app that helps homeowners find local professionals in various home improvement categories. Previously known as Angie’s List, it offers nationwide services and has over 6 million households signed up for its service. In 2021, Angi introduced an annual membership called Angi Key, which offers 20 off services and membership perks.
In 2022, the FTC filed a complaint against Angi. While both HomeAdvisor and Angi have similarities, it is important to choose the right platform for your needs. Angi Homeservices offers highly rated pros, deals, and verified neighbor reviews, but now includes additional features like Skeleton Key, which provides detailed reports on the job.
However, Angie’s List can be a scam, as the search engine doesn’t work around you and all recommended contractors are from over an hour away. To avoid this, consider your budget, timeline, and other considerations when choosing a provider.
A leading handyman services provider, Angi Homeservices, offers a wide range of services to address diverse home improvement needs, including minor repairs and extensive projects. For those looking for spare keys, Angi Lock and More offers the best key-making services in Central VA for 30 years.
In conclusion, Angi Homeservices is a valuable tool for both consumers and contractors seeking home improvement services. While it serves as a search engine for home improvement professionals, it also serves as a powerful tool for contractors to gain online visibility.
📹 Is Angi Leads Worth It For Business Owners?
Is Angi Leads worth it? This question is on a lot of minds and I want to answer this question in the most honest way possible.
What is the Angie’s List controversy?
Denver-based HomeAdvisor, Inc., a company affiliated with Angi, has been accused by the FTC of using misleading tactics to sell home improvement project leads to small businesses in the gig economy. The company recruits service providers to join its network for an annual fee of $287. 99 and sells them leads of people with home repair or maintenance projects for an additional fee. Many service providers also pay an additional $59. 99 for an optional one-month subscription to mHelpDesk, a software for scheduling appointments and processing payments.
The FTC claims that HomeAdvisor made false or deceptive claims about the quality and source of its leads, such as claiming that service providers would get leads matching their skills and in their preferred locale. Additionally, the FTC alleges that HomeAdvisor often told service providers that its leads resulted in jobs at rates much higher than the company could substantiate.

In my experience, starting in 2017, Homeadvisor made the phone ring off the hook and build my business when I had no calls coming in. I started with no workers and no labor cost, and used only handyman leads for $18-$25 per lead. This formula worked well and some of these handyman clients have turned into major clients ongoing for years. When I switched to leads for painting whole houses the lead cost went up to $100 to $150 per lead. Now the lead cost gets astronomical very quickly. In this case you must make extremely good use of the leads, and the lead quality has become questionable, with many leads where the homeowner does not respond. Angi Leads will allow one or two leads to be refunded but after that you are paying for these leads. Also you must call within seconds, not minutes when a lead comes in, you must be the first person there, and you must have outstanding reviews. Definitely there are clients who say ‘I wasn’t expecting so many calls’, and you will be competing on price with at least 3 other contractors. It may be a way to start a business but it quickly limits profitability, especially once you have the cost of other workers and can’t simply lower your price and still make a profit. Also their monthly ‘spend target’ is nonsense. I think I had mine set at the lowest setting, $200 per month, and the leads would quickly add up to $1500.00+ if I was not extremely careful in managing them. The only way to handle the leads is to keep them turned off (you must pause every two weeks to keep them from turning back on) and then only take a lead when you need it, and pause the leads again.
Thanks Chuck👍🏼 I’ve been in construction for over 20yrs. I’m just starting out as a GC and had some worry about leads. Thank you for this extremely helpful information. My experience from just talking with Angie was not the best. Extremely pushy to get the sale, to the point of pushy text messages as well. Lol, the price dropped down by 1/2 before I had to hang up.
Normally I research everything, but somehow i fell into this trap. Signed up to angi leads for 289 and paid for leads for about that much. Figured no harm if I talk to people and get jobs…well so far the leads are junk. People don’t pickup the phone…I was puzzled as to why but maybe now I understand.
I’ve recently cancelled the subscription just a few days ago. The leads are very expensive and most leads do not pick up the phone nor return any of your messages. Angi still charges you for those leads. I advise to use more of the methods that Chuck talks about, it’s way cheaper and with a higher hit rate.
I’m a new plumbing company with 2 vans and trying to scale up. Angi has been AWFUL. All “opportunities” are expired when I click on them within seconds. Leads most often have fake phone numbers. I committed $300 to it but that’s it. -And our rep is just not bright. Yelp is better by far, not great, but still better. Thanks for the deep dive on this.
the “lead” customer is actually looking for contractors in their area to view their website or get contact info. They are not looking for anyone to call them. The website sucks them into a situation they were not seeking by sending multiple contractor phone calls to them. I instantly noticed that the contact leads were upset or annoyed that I am calling. Angi stated to me that the homeowner is paying for the service, that was a blatant lie! Angi/Home advisor is sad way to get leads.
Had a rep call me and was so unprofessional. Uh hell, I’m not sure if I have the right number. Said he googled businesses in the area and my business popped up. I said I’ll look up Angie leads online since I never heard of Angie leads. He didn’t even say my name or business name. He didn’t start off with “I’m from Angie leads”.
Thank you, they reached out to me the other day and I had already declined Angie’s list about six months ago. This company almost sounded different than Angie’s list but it still had a red flag then first name was Angie. So I told him to call me back I would do some research on them. Now I will decline any business with them, it’s not worth it
Cancelled our account today. Complete trash leads, maybe 2 out of 10 were legit. Everything from wrong state, phone numbers don’t work, calls never returned, work already completed or weren’t serious. They often refused refunds/credits, and even tried to negotiate the credits they were willing to give back to still make money. I’ll never use them again or recommend them to anyone.
I’m cancelling my Angi leads they are charging so much for leads. I was told that I would be charged when I accepted the leads. Turns out I’m getting charged automatically when receiving leads. This is scam or maybe not but I honestly didn’t like Angi leads. They charged 130$ this week and last week.
I learned 18 years ago not to buy leads real quick. Spent $750 just to hear: A) you’re the 6th person to call B) I just wanted information C) I pressed the button by mistake, sorry D) I already got some one else E) I was just shopping for… Nope!!! Do a good job and offer a ” FINDERS FEE ” to your customers
Wow my experience with them is if I get 10 leads, 2 or 3 I can’t contact, get 6 or 7 estimates and something like 2 or 3 jobs but it varies. I think that stinks, still I’ve been there since it was Home Advisor 2015, have over 100 reviews, been in business almost 20 years. My profession is trees and you have to be patient, those people will call you back, they will recommend you. It can take a few years to really measure the value of that initial job. Preferred the phone book but there was issues when that was the best way. Maybe take 10 to 15 leads a month from them. It seems to me if your a new business without some clientele maybe it’s not a good vehicle. I agree that it’s more work selling a lead you get from them.
Thanks for this article. They’ve been calling me for weeks. I was skeptical because I wondered how they got my number. I think they may have gotten my number from Thumbtack from years ago or Craigslist. It’s got creepy this morning because someone text me about doing a service out the blue. I know it have to be them texting me now too. Not cool at all.
I’m seeing a pattern, General Contractors it would appear wouldn’t be a good investment. If you are in a niche business, such as Swimming Pool Installation to where an area isn’t saturated with installers, it could be profitable. Liner Replacements, Reconditioning Pools etc. I’d think service work such as cleaning, maintaining Pools and such wouldn’t work with this program.
I also agree that the site is a mess. It’s gotten worse since Angie bought it. I just pay like a 275 a year to stay on the site and then by the lead. Like I’m saying I’ve been there a long time don’t know how they are approaching things with new contractors signing up. It’d be a problem for them if I dropped off the site. Not a good fit for a start up company that has few resources or expertise.
Was with Angie’s list when it started and now the company is not worth using as it turn into something completely different than what it use to be, before homeowners used to look at your profile from a list and choose a contractor based of your profile and ratings and make there own choice and call you maybe 2 more guys tops now you get sent leads an more than half of those are false leads as in no one ever picks up a phone and no one is living in the home literally some of my friends have been sent to homes that has been boarded up no joke. It’s the only company that you will experience false leads with one needs to ask the question as to why that is. As a contractor I have many contractor friends and they all have already canceled with them or have been complaining about false leads and not properly vetting the contractors as well to even see if they are lic or have insurance etc. STAY FAR away is my advice
I’m a painter and the company I work for slowed down so I’ve been out of work for a bit. I wanted to try to fill that gap and angis leads popped up, $750 for the year with $1000 lead credit. Thing is what happens after that? What if I only land one job and it’s only a few hundred bucks? Then get 5 leads in a row that cost a few hundred and I don’t get one? It just seems like a scam and I’m really just trying to work that’s all
I did Angie leads for about 6 months and my only problem was their spend target wasn’t explained to me properly. That’s what turned me away .I was lied to just to sign then it cost me 900.00 to stop it I will never advertise with them again I can’t stand a lier and that’s what they do to the contractor
I despise this process as a customer. Today I did what you did as an example at 3:41 . I had messages and 2 call attempts before I even finished it and at no point did it let me pick who I wanted to contact. Plus, they do not provide an interface to show you who is responding and/or showing interest, you have to just close your eyes and see who reaches out via email or phone. They have gone down hill dramatically over the last couple of years.
Yeah was on the phone with “Jeff” and it’s $7-10 per lead and a $288 background check fee. Ridiculous price for a background check as they normally cost $50 at most. I just get bad vibes from this guy and will be giving a firm no thank you. He also offered $300 worth of leads if I payed $100 when he called. Really sketchy.
Me and my wife joined angis leads and within one month they charged us $8900.00 do not go to them it’s a scam seriously they are horrible charge you just to connect to a customer even if you don’t get to do a job you get charged $88-$100 fee every single time all they care about is money I give them a rating of F-
Horrible experience. If you’re doing remods and building, it’s just tire kickers. I have yet to find anyone that knows remotely what it actually costs to redo a house, let alone build one. I think if you were just doing services it might be okay. But the prices are ridiculous for dead end leads. I’m going to dispute the charges because I was told there would be legit leads and I have yet to get one good lead. I’ve heard there are actual law suits out there
I’m so glad for this content! I just got off the phone with Angi’s Leads and needed to figure out if it would be helpful to sign on. (BTW, they do say there’s no contract to sign. Have they changed their policy since this article was made?) I like to do due diligence and I now know I won’t use their service. I’ve been annoyed when I’ve gotten a bunch of phone calls after researching various things online and I don’t want other people to be put off by a phone call from me they may not have expected or wanted. Thank you!
Hi. On December 12, 2022, I started to work with Angi. But it turned out that Angi is a FRAUD company. I started to receive leads but it was pacifiers. When I called clients who were provided by Angi, they told me they did not order any repair orders. I do not recommend anyone to work with this company
I was researching painting my house. I had no idea what angies list was. I put the information in, all I wanted to see was some instant estimates. Little did I know when I hit that enter button my info went out to multiple contractors and I started getting calls I did not want. One contractor called, I told him I’m not doing the project anymore and he told me I should tell angies list so he would not get charged. Im disgusted with this site.
Its not worth it….there is no way for homeowners to say “i have hired someone for this work” because as soon as you get a lead or choos3 an opportunity lead they get paid….regardless they ge paid so no they dont want to have a eay to make that known….because they want to be paid on the same lead as many times as possible
4:20 No, it is not worth it as a contractor. When a customer is looking for a contractor, that lead is sent to multiple contractors. What does that mean? It means multiple contractors are getting that customer’s contact info, and most of the time, if you’re not the first one to call them, that lead is lost by another contractor who got to the phone faster than you. So you just lost money paying for a lead that you never got to go to. It’s a guaranteed win for Angie and the customer, but it’s a gamble for you the contractor. Is that really fair? Absolutely not. It’s just not worth it in my opinion.
Thanks for crunching the numbers and being impartial about it, I decided not to join I know it could work but specially for new business is a high risk bet, I was in the other side of the spectrum cause I wanted a quote for insurance, that was 8 months ago, Im still getting contacted by dozens od insuatsnce company.
Federal Trade Commission | Protecting America’s Consumers sould be involved more, i will be investing more on my window tinting service web page then angi or home adviser ( partnership) i was almost close to spend my only $350 they were asking me for 7 leads for one month, i had my dubts, thats why i was investigating litle bit more but now with this article not any more . thanks sir .
Ghost leads when they respond back to back with out actually landing the job. And when they keep asking questions they charge you 28$ everytime they send you a message Yelp does the same thing. There saying I owe $150.00 for talking to people who’s not real. Sketchy. That same 150$ could have been spent on door hangers
I would say no, It is not good. The Arko Restoration in Blaine,Mn is very bad. The Roof and siding might have looked ok. My experience with them. After the Roofing and siding they had nails all over the driveway and had to be called to come back to clean them up. Then the siding in the back of the house was falling off. They had to come back to fix that. The front door that they put in was falling apart and I called them to fix it, they came back and tried to fix it less then a year. Door is rarely used. I called numerous times they will not come back. The GM is horrible and after I sent a picture to him The G M said it was not from their installation. I called to talk to the owner Lance. He won’t respond. I would never use this company or refer them to anyone.
The guy from Angi that called me was WAY too pushy which is a major red flag. I told him that I’d have to spend a couple of days researching about them and think about it, because I’m starting to get calls for business as well as business with realtors for my small business and need to research whether this is a good avenue for me or not. He wouldn’t accept that, and kept on pushing the sales pitch, and no matter what I said, he’d keep on going. It reminds me of timeshare sales people. It’s extremely annoying! I finally just hung up on the dude. And less than an hour later, the dipshit called me like three times in a row and I just blocked the number. I started doing research on them and found out they got sued when they were called Angi’s List and just changed the LLC and name, and came back as Angi Leads. Everything I’ve heard about them is bad news. I hope they go out of business and stay out of business.
Just got an offer today from them, will not be going through with it. I started my cleaning business about a year ago and find that using websites like these are a great way to get started, if you are consistent and a do the job you agreed to do you will have no problem finding reoccurring clients and even take them off of these money hungry websites so they can pay you directly (as the websites take a lot of the pros pay in most cases). Instead of paying the $300 for access to the leads I’m going to buy my website so people can contact me directly. Thank you so much for the article, extremely helpful!!
Angis called me today and got me to sign up for their year membership and i explicitly asked the lady if I pay for leads after I get the job or if I pay for the lead and she confirmed to me it was by the job, so thats why I accepted. Low and behold you pay for every lead without even getting the job so Id recommend not using the service. I just paid $150 because I was lied to and I wont get anything out of it
Im really torn. I just signed up with them and they said I could begin receiving leads whenever I want and turn them on or off. I instantly started receiving random leads and being billed for them. So I went in to finish the app setup to specify the location of the leads etc and it seems very invasive with lots of fine print/legal jargon so Im not sure I want to proceed. In my work 1 good lead could really pan out so Im not too worried about the cost but just the quality of the leads and amount of information they want from you seems questionable. Im also getting lots of spam calls etc now too so my name and information is going all over the web to scammers now.
Don’t know what everyone is talking about on here my average lead is about $23.00 and i make a minimum of $300 per job. If they send a lead that isn’t in my realm of work they issue a credit, the shitty homeowners using the site who are not serious are who screw you over. I spend a couple hundred to make a couple thousand. It will work good depending what type of business you run, I have multiple businesses and some are on angies some are not. This works great for some people!
I grew up doing the same man, Building custom homes since I was like 3 or 4 lol But I have a small company with my son now and was looking into it but honestly good work advertises itself, also you sign your right to them to use your logo and all your own business information for their own good, I seen an add where they used their phone with someone else’s name cause that business owner was doing good on his own but signed into them, so they can use your shyt with their number lol
Chuck, you are relentless. It’s obvious that you have something to gain by trashing Angi Leads – You want subscribers and your promoting another marketing method which you are profiting on. People think your just trying to do a good deed when in all actuality you are in it for yourself. You are preventing many who would benefit greatly from our service the opportunity to do so for your own financial gain. That’s despicable in my opinion. If we didn’t have to battle against people that do what you do with your own agenda, we wouldn’t have to be high pressure. Which I’m not. Just remember Chuck, what comes around goes around. Have a good day.
Angi Leads is a complete rip off and everytime the economy goes bad, they really ramp up the rip off. They sell your leads to at least 4-6 other contractors, as well as giving you bad contact information or selling services that you don’t do! At over $100.00 per shot it’s ridiculous. Super sleazy, break their own rules, give out fake phone numbers, addresses, break your membership agreement, etc. People get angry with how many contractors call them so it’s very negative. Chuck gives an honest breakdown and I personally think the federal government needs to file more law suits against this company. Almost all the leads aren’t even “warm” leads, just people shopping price comparisons. So many scams, just don’t do it!
IS A TOTAL SCAM I USED TO WORK FOR THEM AND GOT SEEK OF LISTEN TO THE CONTRACTOR TELLING ME THAT WE WERE STILLING THEYRE MONEY . AND DONT GET ME WRONG THEY WERE RIGHT REASON WHY I QUICK AND I KNOW THE NAMES OF THE PEOPLE THAT ARE RUNNING BUSINESS HERE IN EL SALVADOR, COME GUYS IS TIME FOR THEM TO PAY FOR ALL THE MONEY THAT THEY ARE TAKING AWAY FROM OUR GOOD CONTRACTORS
My mom passed away suddenly in December, no cause – just gone. She loved both of these beautiful women and would have been so excited to hear this song. I remember the times where we would dance around the living room, singing as loud as we could until our voices gave out while cleaning. We would have been singing this song forever. Thank you for creating this magical song.

Jaeme MCEntyre,my mom died of Cancer a couple of years ago,and we also loved singing and dancing to Elle King. When my mom was in a nursing home my friend played Elle King songs, and my mom would tap her foot and try to sing along it brought a smile to her face in her last days.I am sorry to hear of your loss, but at least you can hold on to the happy memories.
I’ve said this to everyone you need to do a song about the women working the night shift at the factory you’re there you go in the dark to get up when it’s dark you leave home hoping to get home for the babies wake up so yeah like you didn’t go nowhere and get on the school then you get your two hour nap then you do it all again that’s all we need women that were in that night shift. Praying as you make it home before daylight, cause I’m babies getting up
I got some money in my pocket, got some trouble on my tail I can hear the dive’s a-knocking, guess I’m heading off the rails Singing, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh I’m talking ’bout you-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh I got some new best friends forever, see, I met ’em at the bar Where the whiskey goes down better, when they don’t know who you are Singing, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh I’m talking ’bout you-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh, gonna feel this in the morning Ooh-ooh, ’cause I’m going hard tonight So bartender, take my keys What do you want from me? Baby, I’m drunk, and I don’t wanna go home Not staying in to fight I’m staying out all night Baby, I’m drunk, and I don’t wanna go home We don’t gotta wait until the weekend There’s always time for jumping off the deep end So don’t you wait up tonight Don’t worry, I’ll be fine Baby, I’m drunk, and I don’t wanna go home, yeah We’re in the bathroom gettin’ chatty, there’s a line out in the hall Tryna be my sugar daddy, gettin’ handsy in the stalls Singing, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh I’m talking ’bout you-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh You like my gin and tonic kisses, ’cause you know they taste so sweet And I know you got your missus, but there ain’t no one like me Talkin’ ’bout you-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh Mmm, I’m talking ’bout you-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh Ooh, gonna feel this in the morning Ooh-ooh, ’cause I’m going hard tonight So bartender, take my keys What do you want from me? Baby, I’m drunk, and I don’t wanna go home Not staying in to fight I’m staying out all night Baby, I’m drunk, and I don’t wanna go home We don’t gotta wait until the weekend There’s always time for jumping off the deep end So don’t you wait up tonight Don’t worry, I’ll be fine Baby, I’m drunk, and I don’t wanna go home, yeah I don’t wanna (Oh-oh-oh) don’t wanna go home (Oh-oh) I don’t wanna (Oh-oh-oh) So bartender, take my keys What do you want from me?

When I was in college I worked at a tuxedo rental store and we rented to this very colorful wedding party. When the tuxes came back they were ripped, tattered, and some had bloodstains on them. Turns out the bride was pregnant and the guy she asked to be the best man was the baby daddy and not the guy she was marrying. Apparently this little factoid came to light at the reception and things went from zero to 100 really fast 😂
For the past couple of weeks, I have begun every day listening to this song. It makes me smile. It makes me laugh. It makes me sing and move to the music. I love both of these beautiful, talented ladies as artists, and this collaboration was over the top! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! Thank you for setting my mood for the day, every time I indulge in it!
