Interior design legislation has been enacted in 28 US states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and eight Canadian provinces since the 1970s to protect the rights of interior designers to practice and allow them to provide services independently. The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is a nonprofit organization that promotes the profession of interior design, with chapters throughout the country. Key amendments include the title of Registered Commercial Interior Designer (RCID), stamp and seal pro visions for RCID, and an additional ID seat on the Georgia State Board of Architecture.
