The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is the longest-established and largest membership organization for the interior design industry, founded in 1975. It currently has 48 U.S. chapters and is a part of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), which is dedicated to nurturing the community and future advancement of interior designers. ASID is a result of the merging of the American Institute of Decorators (AID) and the National Society of Interior Designers (NSID), which were founded in 1931 and 1957.
The choice between residential and contract or commercial interior designers is an inherent dichotomy that forces a professional schism within the industry. ASID favors residential interior design practitioners, while IIDA favors contract or commercial interior designers. This dichotomy has led to a lack of a singular focus on interior design, which has affected the entire profession.
Interior designers can differentiate themselves and demonstrate their professionalism through certifications and credentials. The appropriate credential can set an interior designer apart from other professionals. ASID has a mix of residential and commercial designers and a broad set of skill levels. IIDA is more commercial interior design-based and tends to serve the interior design community.
The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is the most prominent association in the interior design industry, welcoming everyone. ASID advances the interior design profession and communicates the impact of design on the human experience. ASID is a community of people committed to interior design through education, knowledge sharing, and networking.

Nina Campbell….I have always ONLY bought your gorgeous king size comforters, they feel glorious and the colors are yummy…..I miss Steinmart…because I would buy two sets a year…I’d have to hide them from the hubby…..you are so talented and I have loved and enjoyed all that you have made for a king size bed…….just heavenly!!!! Thank you so very much. Hugs carolyn from Columbus Georgia
Instead of having those God-awful plastic flowers in the little courtyard off the spare bedroom, you’d have thought someone with her background would have put some lovely cacti in there! They’d have been aesthetically stunning (especially tall ones like Euphorbia) and given a bit if life to the area.
I know there will be some interior decorators perhaps in the USA, not casting aspersions, but they do have a different perspective which is a laser focus on symmetry and balance. But my eye is attuned to comfort, colour, atmosphere or mood and function and that’s where this Townhouse inspires me in reworking spaces adorned with pictures, paintings and objet d’art. I draw the line however at plastic plants – they are hardly biodegradable. Bold or subtle ceramic art pieces would be better placed at least you can dust them.
Lovely house, BUT, I remember you lived in a spectacular and flawless cottage, isn`t it? that house was a dream, it was a sort of fabrics, masive chine in your dishware, lot of color and mixed of styles and magically all looked perfect. Why do you move to the center of London ?, any way cogratulation,!! I admire you .
