This video provides a step-by-step guide on how to paint the exterior of a house using an airless paint sprayer. The video emphasizes the benefits of using an airless paint sprayer, which saves time and provides powerful and efficient spraying. To ensure optimal results, it is essential to apply multiple coats, clean and maintain the sprayer regularly, and store it in a clean and dry area.
Preparing the surface is crucial for any painting project, and using TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) to wash any surface is recommended. The video also discusses the use of airless sprayers for exterior house siding, highlighting the importance of banding the area to be sprayed. For inside corners, the spray tip should be aimed directly into the corner to ensure proper functioning.
When spraying under lap siding or the side of trim boards, the tip should be angled upward to get enough paint on the bottom portion of the board. The video also provides a DIY guide on using a paint sprayer for exteriors, highlighting its ease of use and faster professional finish. To achieve a consistent layer of paint, hold the sprayer tip about 30cm from the surface and keep the gun perpendicular to the wall.
For high exterior walls and peaks, the pressure control knob should be turned counterclockwise to reduce pressure. For garage doors, an airless paint sprayer is recommended, and the garage should be washed before use.

📹 My First Time Using The Graco Airless Paint Sprayer Outside My House | DIY For Beginners!
Hi Friends on this video I will be reviewing and also my first time using the Graco Airless Sprayer Outside My House! I love the …
Thanks for this demo FTH. I’m a lime putty plasterer who uses an electric sprayer to apply lime paint (lime wash) for all my internal and external paint jobs because not only do so when shopping in my local Lidl supermarket, near the fish and dairy in their tool section there was a Parkside airless spraying system for £120 ( $162.59) and had to have it. I’ve commented on many YouTube films, to ask if it’s OK for lime wash but nobody’s responded back, your film is the first that’s even mentioned water based paints, I like spraying, it gets to parts other beers cannot reach and is so much better than painting because you leave no brush marks or bristles and with care and consistency you cover the surface evenly and better and faster. For internal coloured paint jobs I’ll used a water based emulsion, the cheaper the better, and never use any pig fat in the final coat, there’s no point because you want a breathable paint and any fat will make it non-porous. I also noticed that you just spayed it once, and after spending so long taping and masking area’s, why not add at least 2 more, it would look even better and when you asked what people thought, I think you need 2 more and you should have filled/caulked along the wall top at 7:31. The rest of your house looks fine and there is no better feeling than coming home to your loved one and perusal a good box-set in front of a log fire on a cold winters night in your own domain. At the 800 year old Torre Abbey in Devon I worked on doing the lime putty, rough-cast finish as part of a £32 million project in about 2006 I just did the plastering, inside and out and some other contractors did the painting but inside one of the courtyards you could see the 200 year old (or older) lime paint and I counted 4 to 5 layers, this is because the old lime paint had a thickener like casein added to it up whereas with normal lime wash, if painted on too thickly it will later crack and peel off.
I think you and the machine did a great job! Since the paint is a thinned down version of paint, don’t you need to spray a second coat? I think I would feel much better having a 2nd if not 3rd coat of paint, just thinking about wear and tear on the finish. Also do you need to spray a primary coat of primer prior to the actual paint? Honestly I am presently struggling with painting my house with a brush! My mother and I did it 18 years ago and so I decided to do it again, but I am doing it alone! Therefore, this sprayer looks like heaven to me! Would you also be able to spray under the eves, which I hate painting!!!
I sprayed a rental property from top to bottom with this same sprayer. It worked good but inside tight areas like closets were tough. I had several areas than ran (I wonder if back rolling would have solved that problem) understanding when pressure should be high vs low was huge, keeping your wrist straight for 1800 sq ft of painting was HARD, and keeping your speed consistent when the trigger is pulled wasn’t easy but overall it came out decent (had to do a second coat the next day due to missing my 50% overlap in a few areas and not back rolling. This is a good starter article!!! Thanks
EXCELLENT article I have been “Flipping” Houses for 50 Years (I am 69 years old) I have painted Stucco Houses here in New Mexico (US) a few times… but I don’t know if it is my AGE or the fact this Stucco House I’m Painting has really THICK Stucco and it is Eating up my Rollers… and their expensive… So NOW… after all these years… I feel the need for speed… I mean a Paint Sprayer… I deserve it… LOL Thank YOU so much for for sharing this great article
Good Job Man! I bought one of these used but it’s in perfect shape. I’m afraid to use it because I have a 5 gallon can of paint and I’m afraid I won’t use it all the same day and I don’t want it to go to waste. The guy I bought it from also told me that there is an internal filter that needs to be cleaned as well.
Good vid. I just sprayed on clear seal coat on half my fence with the same model right before I watched the article. It is pretty much this simple. The most difficult part of the process is the clean up, but even that isn’t difficult at all. Using mineral spirits with oil based products would be a bit more difficult just because of proper disposal, but the process start to finish is pretty simple.
Thank you, thank you this is very helpful. I previously had an older Craftsman unit that weighed a ‘ton’. Painted my house with it, but very difficult to move around and priming was a problem, because the fitment of the plumbing was loosening up all the time. This Grace unit looks like a much easier unit to work with.
I was debating on buying this sprayer and perusal this article you just help me make my decision good job man. I retract my previous statement this paint sprayer is garbage!! i began spraying my stucco wall the machine started making noises and pressure immediately stopped flowing through the hose. i looked back at the machine and a pool of paint was now on the ground and under the machine. it appears the spray hose is faulty and does not maintain a proper seal when attached. paint continued to spray out covering the painters plastic i laid down. going over the reviews that I have seen about the sprayer that’s a common problem so I’m returning this junk back to Amazon and looking for a way better sprayer from a totally different company 👎
Great job and simple straight forward info without all the fluff. I just bought one myself and have exterior siding like you but I live in a double wide mobile home with a 2 car garage so this will be a great sprayer for my home. The question I have is the cleanup, after you are done with cleaning the sprayer and you have a bucket filled with wastewater what do you do with the wastewater? How did you dispose of it? Thanks for a great article.
I also bought a hardwood dolly and I’m going to build a stand for the sprayer unit and a 5 gallon bucket so I can pull it along as I spray large rooms. Dolly is 18×30 inches and I figured I make it so I can place a one gallon bucket of paint or 5 gallons on the cart to provide stability and I’ll have storage under the spray unit for hoses and supplies.
I’ve never used a home paint sprayer before. I borrowed one of these from a friend and had great results and was easy to use. I do feel like it wasted quite a bit of paint vs rolling but the painted was way faster. Clean up was a little messy and slow but otherwise everything went well. No issues with runs or anything. I was impressed and may buy myself one in the future.
when u come to the top and bottom when u let go of the trigger i flick my wrist up to feather it so it doesnt make a stop mark. but for my first coat i always back roll it in with a roller then before it drys put a quick coat over it and that gives the best end results for durability coverage and look on exteriors. Looks good though man great job
I been using this same sprayer for awhile now complete houses with it they say it’s not good enough to do big houses but I have painted thousands of square feet at first was kinda slow with it but after awhile I got different tip for more spray and wider spray and rough spray and fine spray just got experiments with it and it will surprise you something that isn’t worth the money is the roller for the Graco sprayer not a big fan
Thanks for the creation of this article. I have a small handyman business and I’m going to purchase a Graco model in the spring of 2023. Now, I have a question: What would you (or anyone else who does this for living) charge for just the complete job you did in this article – taping, plastic, trim… the whole job for this one wall (square feet ?). Thank you.
Yes I have the exact same machine. And I got mines just last year during the summer afterwards I painted my whole entire house. I too was tired of using brushes I wanted to experience it with a sprayer the outcome was excellent. Not to mention I’m going forward to spray my outside of my house this coming summer. Yes it does drip a little bit and I realized and like anything else you have to get the hang of it but always good to have a Roller and a brush handy just in case. It’s definitely a great investment to have. And not for laziness. But for shear time cutting. GREAT JOB!
I purchased this to do home…it is not fun…all the accessories (respirators & a lot of extra paint equal $$$$)… fumes…the paint mist leaking out of enclosed area… Is it faster…maybe, but if you factor clean up times…maybe not. Is it cost efficient…HELL NO…respirator 60$ plus extra paint. Hell No…I used 4 gallons 2 coasts with sprayer…I used 2 gallons 2 coats with roller.
I saw overspray on concrete..and and area that you completely missed above front door. And biggest mistake was cleaning machine ontop of concrete without any dropcloth protection under your equipment and work pails. Other than that this Greco seemed to do a nice job. However you didn’t mention how much product was lost due to spraying on breezy day.. just saying
