How To Take Off A Suburban Vehicle’S Interior Rear Panel?

To remove interior panels on Silverado crew cab and Suburban model trucks, follow these steps:

  1. Release and raise the rear hatch using the unlock button on the inside of the driver’s door or a keyless remote.
  2. Locate the hatch release on the inside of the hatch, depress the hatch pins using a flat-head screwdriver, and remove the hatch panel holding clips with the trim panel remover.
  3. Remove the three 10mm bolts from the door panel with a door panel clip tool or putty knife. Lift the door panel up and off, press the button to remove the panel.
  4. Remove the small dent in the back door on a 2020 Suburban. The plan is to remove the door panel and punch the dent back out.
  5. Press the automatic seat release button to fold the seatback.
  6. Open the liftgate to access the controls for rear doors.
  7. Remove all items on the seat, including the skinny panel between the 2nd and 3rd row (with a big torx screw holding the seat belt in place).
  8. Remove the small trim panels at the back and the locking pillar trim panel in the front, then pull out the bottom of the panel.
  9. Remove the trim panel armrest retaining screws.
  10. Insert a flat-bladed tool between the trim panel and the door to carefully pry the panel off.
  11. Remove the door handle bezel.
  12. Remove the door trim panel upper extension.
  13. Gently pry the manual out of the door.

  • Hmm. I did this today on a 2000 Suburban, and I didn’t realize that there are about 5 plastic L-shaped hooks on the inner panel, opening pointing down. So, on my vehicle, you pull out the lower plastic snaps, and then lift the whole panel upward to release the hooks. Unfortunately I broke two of those hooks before I realized how they work (don’t just pull straight out). The vehicle you show is somewhat different, with no lower plastic snaps but you do have at least a couple of those L-shaped hooks. Lift up to release before breaking (grin).
