What should you not clean vinyl with?
Vinyl records can be damaged by various factors, including abrasive scrubbers, alcohol-based products, tap water, common household cleaners, paper towels, and high-pressure air. Abrasive scrubbers can scratch vinyl records, while alcohol-based products can degrade sound quality. Tap water should only be used as it contains minerals and contaminants that build up in the grooves. Common household cleaners, such as soaps, shower gels, glass cleaners, and furniture polishes, can also affect sound quality.
Paper towels or tissues can leave behind lint that gets stuck in the grooves. High-pressure air can push contaminants further into the grooves and damage the record surface. Proper storage is essential to keep vinyl records clean. Store records in the inner sleeve of the cover, vertically, and avoid storing near heat sources. Store vinyl shelves or crates vertically, leaving space between records to prevent warping. Place sturdy dividers on shelves, using wood, plastic, or suitable metals.
How to make car interior plastic look new?
ColorBond LVP is a paint that can be used to restore car interior plastic to a new condition. It bonds with leather, vinyl, and plastic while remaining flexible, preventing cracking and peeling. It is highly opaque and can be applied with a thin film thickness, making it suitable for spot repairs on assembly lines. The paint is used by Ford Motor Company for spot repairs. For example, a vintage Datsun 240Z door panel was discolored due to aging and the owner wanted to retain it rather than replace it with a reproduction unit.
A specialist recommended ColorBond LVP to restore the panel, which not only allowed the panel to be retained but also cost less than a restoration door panel. Chris Ito’s original red vinyl and plastic interior was a nightmare after being stored outdoors with the top down, and he decided to repaint it with ColorBond LVP to make his car interior plastic look new.
How do you take care of plastic and rubber?
Rubber and plastic objects should be stored in cold, dark, dry, and oxygen-free conditions. Cold, dark, dry conditions can be found in the refrigerator section of a frost-free refrigerator or in a low relative humidity cold storage room. To reduce humidity, objects should be placed in sealed glass or vapour-proof plastic containers with dry indicating silica gel. Monitoring should be done at least once a year.
Oxygen-absorbing materials like Ageless can be used to achieve oxygen-free conditions for many plastics and rubbers. Museums are adopting this technique to stop oxidation of objects or eradicate insects. However, materials that release acidic gases as they degrade, such as cellulose esters and Ebonite, should not be stored in this way, as their rapid emission creates an acidic environment that speeds up degradation.
Qualified conservators or conservation scientists can help with the Ageless technique. More elaborate systems used before the Ageless technique include rigid containers flushed and filled with inert gases.
How do you clean and protect vinyl?
To clean marine vinyl, use a soft bristle brush and marine vinyl cleaner, and use sunscreen for ink marks. Avoid household cleaners like 409, Goo B Gone, or window cleaner with ammonia, as they strip the vinyl of its UV inhibitor properties. Avoid degreasers and gasoline, as they can clog the vinyl’s pores and damage the protective coating. Never use bleach or a power washer. Once clean, apply sealants and conditioners to protect seats from drying out and cracking, especially in dry climates.
Avoid using automotive vinyl treatments with silicone, which can break down key marine vinyl properties. To protect vinyl, keep it covered and well ventilated. This can help guard against UV damage and minimize mildew during storage.

Never throw away your old toothbrushes as theyre great for getting in nooks and crannies on a car trim. The mainline products like Meguiars and Autoglym are good but so pricey
