I have decided to buy a tractor direct from china after seeing your articles thanks. My question is You said you paid about $3000 dollars once the unit was in port may I ask for a breakdown what I want to know is how much was shipping and how much was other? Was it based on the cost of your unit? My tractor and attachments is about $16,000. I decided to go with an electric articulated loader with a telescopic boom with a bunch off attachments. Thanks David
I’m having a food trailer built in China. Like you, we skipped the Ali Buba and delt with the builder directly. The price included shipping but we have to take care of Customs. They will send us a list of Authorized shipping agents. Its so daunting because I think they just finished it. Thanks for making the article.
The skid steer you bought from “INFRONT” is a supplier not a manufacturer, you can check the items they have are all from other factories. For example they have the YF320 skid steer model was rebranded, the actual manufacturer is Shandong Derette Machinery Co., Ltd. and the model is DRT320, they are obviously identical, the only difference is the price from infront its 3990usd and from manufacturer its 3100usd
If you’re curious, he said spent about $15k in a reply comment last year, but the price of the equipment has come down, so you might be able to get one for $12k today. As a homeowner who wants to play with big tools Err… equipment…err yea. Stuff like this. If you want to play with stuff like this but your not making money with it, and your local equipment rental place wants $300-$400 per day (24 hours), you could rent this equipment for roughly 40-50 days for that same $15k. You also don’t need to store it or maintain it, but it might not always be available when you need it. You likely won’t rent it during the work week, so that’s a years worth of weekends.
All those Fees, maybe Elaine Chow (Mitch McConnels) Chinese wife and past Transportation Secretary could shed some light on all that and why all that non-disclosed fleecing was allowed. Each Chinese exporter should have an agent that can help walk-you-through each step, giving you a heads up on all fees that you should and should not pay.
@metaspencer Thanks for making this article! I am seriously considering getting this mini skid loader for my property. I will use in the hills to clear pathways and hiking trails. How steep do you feel safe using this machine? Also, are the customs/shipping cost calculated on the purchase price? Lastly, there seems to be a lot of interest in this machine from the comments. Perhaps if a few of us join forces, we could get better deals and lower shipping costs? 🤔
I am a freight forwarder in China, and my 13 years of experience have taught me that when you work with a trading company, I try my best to hide the factory’s contact information. If freight services are also provided by trading companies, then it is completely impossible for you to have access to the factory’s contact information. The only thing you need to do is to designate a freight forwarder to serve you, because the freight forwarder will pick up the goods from the factory and load them onto the ship, and has the ability and opportunity to obtain the factory’s contact information for you.
Hey Spencer, i really appreciate the time you took to make this article as well as the clarity you provided with entire process, Great stuff man! Was wondering if you could confirm if was the YF380 model you ordered. Im in the process of ordering one myself. Can you recall what the original price was and what attachments/upgrades you added to make the price jump to 9k? The machine it self right now is $3,000. Seems almost to good to be true lol
I learned all the shipping BS when i bought an engine from Australia, i got lucky and found a guy bringing in his own container full of parts so he arranged for his shipper to pick mine up and load into his container. Bad part is when it got to the Canada/US border Covid was just getting into full swing so they had plenty time to check ever box and unluckily ours had crating boxs made from some kind of wood thats been banned from coming into the US since the 50s so the container was sent back to Aus repackaged and sent back. In the end it was a good thing because i had more things i needed shipped here and was thrown into the container for a free ride and all the freight was absorbed by the original shipper for being at fault. Its a hassle for sure but in my case JUST the $350 engine was going to be $3480 in shipping to the warehouse in PA but in the end i got the engine, trans, spare trans and all the wiring/ECM and a lot of other parts shipped and delivered to my door for $2k…massive savings but about a year long wait. The engine had more miles in transit than it did being driven lol I have been looking at those mini articulating loaders thats about 1200lbs for yard work and other things my tractor and skidsteer are too big to get into or too much of a hassle, i like that little unit you have and with a home made grapple thats not as bulky would be ideal with tires for my dad to operate
Thank you for the article. I am thinking about some of the offers of machinery from China but I don’t trust that scammers haven’t been nesting around the opportunity to scam. I will probably go with a company offering the machinery. Many of the steps you mention I believe have been new regulations added to taxpayers expenses increasing the heavy loads of taxes.
Thanks for the update, This is your second article I watched on this little machine, all to hear how much the machine itself is, I am not sure why you keep jumping that in both articles, well shipping and custom BS charged you $3K & how much for did you pay for the machine itself? BTW these machines are already on eBay so just wondering if I should buy it off eBay or Alibaba. On the link you shared on the first article Alibaba price is $1900 so, please if you don’t mind to share. Thanks
Thanks for this article! I think it’s probably not worth it for me to save a thousand or two. I had no idea that it was so much to get the machine over here. There are a few folks around that buy a bunch of them and sell them for what I now see is a reasonable markup. I’ll just drive to Tulsa and pay $8,000 for a mini skid. I’ll paint it the color I want after I get it 😂 When it’s time for the dually dump trike, I might revisit this idea.
