I’m a Civil engineer. It’s a good educational article directed to grand public. Will it be good to complete information with articles about 1. Steps to build a tunnel, including design, financing cost, estimated time from contract to complete finished word 2. Possible financing sources 3. Estimated time from contract to received finished tunnel Will it be astonishing information. Specially about who gave the money to finance them. Could be dangerous investigations.
So all this underground works with tools many men working, taking dirt away, bringing the concrete arches, etc., all this went on for years and years and the poor, innocent, Palestinian people knew nothing about it. Wow, until Gaza was invaded, I always thought that Hamas just had a rather simple, and more amateurish approach just connecting one building to another in the same way the Mexican Cartels designed and constructed their tunnels underneath the border areas, but fast forward after October 7th, the quality, and sophistication used are very elaborately and successfully used to live, and operate their entire organization under all of Gaza!

You are wrong about the digging method. Because the soil consists of a rather soft packed sand no explosives are needed. Hamas used an electric motor driven drill installed on a shopping cart. The drill is made of a metal can, about 50 cm in diameter, on a meter long shaft. As simple as that. It has been shown on the news once.
If the barbarian Hamas put their efforts towards the upliftment and building industrial enterprises for Palestinians rather than building tunnels and underground structures just think how much better Palestinians would have been. there is a youtuber who makes a lit of combat futtage and he lived in kurds tunnel system for years. He claim that it takes 6 teams 2 weeks and 1000$ to dig a 1km tunnel. They are really good in it and have a lot of volunteers because its relative well paying jobs. He stated that some of the tunnels he lived in where 200m deep. And fully liveable. They had barbers, baths, kitchens a tailor, different workshops and more in them.
