The Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon has been without clean drinking water for years, and the recently passed infrastructure bill aims to address this issue. The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, the largest Indian reservation in Oregon, are currently facing a water crisis due to pressure from the area’s hot springs, which have healing properties. The Warm Springs Housing Authority has been providing employment opportunities through construction, reconstruction, improvement, extension, alteration, or repair and operation of the reservation.
The federal government has failed to act on the issue, but donations can help support the reservation by donating to the MRG Foundation’s Chúush Fund. The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs is a federally recognized Native American tribe made up of three tribes who put together a confederation. They provide employment opportunities through construction, reconstruction, improvement, extension, alteration, or repair and operation of the reservation.
NeighborImpact’s Weatherization program offers free retrofit repair services, including insulation, sealing leaky ducts, and repairing heating. The development will rehabilitate 18 affordable housing units on the reservation, and the Elder addresses housing, home repair, and safety needs by helping with applications for home repair services and relocation for safety purposes. Warm Springs will use $2 million from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Indian Community Development Block Grant to build eight homes.
The Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs offers services such as home repair, information and referral/assistance, legal assistance, and nursing. To support the Warm Springs reservation, donations can be made to the MRG Foundation’s Chúush Fund.
📹 Broken Treaties (Full documentary) | Oregon Experience | OPB
For thousands of years, more than 60 Native American tribes lived in Oregon’s diverse environmental regions. At least 18 …
I am a native part of the Nihankuotana tribe (federally recognized as the cow creek Bank of Umpqua tribe of Indians) and know all too well about the broken treaties of the United States. My ancestors lost our land, language, culture, and my great grandfather fought to get our tribe federally recognized in 1982. I’m proud of my native heritage and am proud to know my tribe is working on reviving the Takelma language once spoken by our ancestors!
I am 53, born and raised in Oregon, and remember being “taught” in very rough, general terms, the history of Euro-American and indigenous interactions from the East to West coast. I learned nothing about the history of Native people in the state where I lived, until recently. It has been illuminating, painful, and necessary.
I’m Irish. I feel for the Native Americans as it is a reminder of what happened to my people. A message to all Indegenous peoples. Do not ever forget your culture. 90% of Irish culture has been forgotten. The traditional hunting, fishing, sustainable living, home craft has been almost forgotten by most Irish people. Salmon, trout and the like were a big reliant in villages, 1 halibut could feed many families. We even had our own unique hooks, nets, baskets, fishing styles ect. Traditional Irish healing is basically dead aside from few elders who know it and pass on knowledge. But unfortunately the elders often lose their memories. Places like the West are the only ones who have some of it still around. And it’s in dying numbers. So please don’t forget your culture. It ruins a country and a people
Tell me something new, White settlements have also devastated Aboriginal Tribes here in Australia, Missionaries, white settlements, Land grabs, the list of elimination/s of Aboriginals goes on E.G Kooris in Custody ( white people brought their diseases here, they brought alcohol, tobacco white religions, racism the list goes on ) . When Australia was first settled there were some 50,000 Aboriginal tribes and languages, now there are less than 5,000 and still the elimination of Aboriginals goes on, “God save the Queen”, not in my eyes, never, ever ! Some 3 years ago I was forbidden to fly the “Aboriginal” Flag at our Men’s Shed to celebrate “Naidoc”, week, yes racism is alive and thriving here in Australia !
I am Cherokee, Sadly my father passed away when I was very young and my mother and her family didn’t want me to know about Cherokee’s history, stories, past. I read all I can I learn all the crafts I can. I try to hold on to some a part of my history. I am glad that much more of the truth is coming out now. I am glad some of the wrongs are being repaired but there is such a king way to go. I hope the government doing pull a fast one again and things keep getting better and better.
I remember when my father 1st sat me down and told me about the Lakhota Sioux Indians. I was about 9 years old then he told me my grandmother who I never met was full Sioux Indian. She married a black man my grandfather. Who was half Indian as well. After hearing that I always wanted to visit my people. My father looks 100% Indian to most ppl. I always thought we were just black. Looking at the ppl in this article made mu heart fell warm. They look just like my dad.
When I see this and learn more about our brothers injustice from an over bearing lying government by showing this kind of power over a people they should have no power over! because of greed and individuals who think they are entitled. It just bring me to tears with a heavy heart. You know a change is coming and the earth will shake a third time and we know who will prevail. Prepare. ❤️🙏
“Mankind knows where genocide had been practice in history. For example, the extermination of the Native Indian (American} population in America is truly a genocide, and the consequence of the genocide still live in today, and there never been a full acknowledgement of genocide by the US Government. This is the reality on the ground.” – Victor Gao. “Wherever the European has trod, death seems to pursue the aboriginal. We may look to the wide extent of the Americas, Polynesia, the Cape of Good Hope, and Australia, and we find the same result…” – Charles Darwin
Sadly I lost my language, my heritage, my identity. I was taken from my parents and put in a white home and I was classed as being white, I’m not white, I look very native. When I was thirteen I went to court to divorce my adopted parents so I could claim back my Native Status. Thank Goodness my adopted parents where supportive. Now I can’t pass on our language and heritage to my children and they won’t be able to pass it on to theirs. I can’t help but feel bitter and angry when I hear what happened and what continues to happen to our people. We should be treated a lot better and our treaties honoured. As for the things that were taken it should be given back.
I wish I knew as much about California Indians as I have learned here about Oregon’s Native populations. This reminds me of Hawaiian history, where the missionaries came in, married into the Ali’i class, were eventually Hawaiian citizens (Hawaii was recognized in 1848 as a sovereign nation by France, England, Japan)and these “citizens” first made the king sign the Bayonet Constitution and later overthrew the queen. There is no treaty of annexation. It was never signed. Hawaii remains a sovereign nation, but it does Hawaii very little good. The US occupies it and has used it terribly. Most people have no idea.
As an Irish man our history is something like the native people, The only hope is to educate your youth as best you can and hopefully they will reach top politicial positions and then you will some control and change your future, I wish you all the best and very sorry for all the horrible history that you have indured,Best Wishes
Thank you for a wonderful insight into the history, culture, and long overdue growing prosperity of the indigenous people of what we know today as the United States of America. I hope I live long enough to see all the unratified treaties ratified as originally intended and full freedoms restored to the true owners of USA.
I knew nothing of this treachery. I am publicly apologizing for any of my ancestors who may have been involved in taking away Native land. Most of my family as far back as I can see it, stated in the East, and did not immigrate to America until the late 1800’s. BUT….WHO KNOWS. We ALL need to help the Native people’s in ANY WAY possible. I am praying to my Dear Jesus to help me do what He gives me to do to make even some things RIGHT and BETTER for our beautiful, intelligent Natives who ARE our brother and sister Americans…..they were here first, lest any of us forget that in grabs for money gained from resources on Indiana lands (the little they have😢) MUCH LOVE AND MANY PRAYERS TO MY INDIAN FAMILY. GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU ALWAYS! 🕊💖✝️✡️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🏵🌟✨⚡️⛰📿
l am a member of a small European nation and throughout our known history our bigger neighbours were trying to erase us as an ethnicity but we survived by keeping our language and culture and finally got our independence back a few decades ago,so l uderstand the struggle of Native peoples quite good. Big support!!!
thankyou for a beautifully crafted documentary, with suberb cinematography and a sensitive portrayal of dispossession and loss. Very moving. I am now too old to even think of travelling to see the NorthWest, but you have brought this glorious landscape and natural wonder to me, here in my home in far away Australia. I grew up in a tiny remote school where most of my classmates were Australian Aboriginal. We here have our own story of dispossession, as well. Thankyou once again for a first class film.
Here in California where I’m living at where 180 acres for res then they moved them out Now on land is ware houses They had a reinforcements 🏫 There’s the last red bricks of the school to show a lil memorial in front of general electric ware house On a spirit journey I seen the old spirits and old town (lsd) when I walk through the fields I feel the energy
As a Native Ukrainian, I sympathise with the Native American people. My nation was also under the same threat, when Russians, Germans, and representatives of other nations came here and committed genocides and displacements. They looked down on our culture, language, traditions. Now we are fighting again for our right to exist, speak our mother tongue, follow our traditions, live on our own land.
At first pass it looks as tho great truths of Oregon history is being told. That even the story of Native oragon peoples are being told. Nope. You cannot tell this story accurately or truthfully without the fact it was GOLD that brought settlement to Oregon. It was GOLD that caused the algamation of all of oregons tribes. And now the Indian is reduced to history lessons. Pow wow dancing and good ol casinos. Indians claim they are sovereign nations. But yet they are all bound by law to practice and enforce colonial style self governance. That’s not sovereignty. They are not allowed to have a army. A requirement for sovereignty. And they cannot receive large sums of money from individuals or other governments around the world. This so called documentary is 100% Bull shit.
I know that treaties have been broken I myself am native American Indian Alabama poarch band Creek and Oklahoma Cherokee Indian wife is Oklahoma Cherokee and Choctaw our people and all the Indian nation’s of the USA and Canada have went through hell all the way back to our forefathers and mother’s we are still going through hell the trail of tears and all the other natives of this great nation have had atrocities
Masterpiece of work! It is so devastating how people take advantage of other people to covet what they want. They are doing fine where they are and they come over to a land and they rape, pillage, kill, commit genocide and think that’s acceptable and their right.. God is perusal! Be very afraid of his retribution!
It was very interesting perusal this article about the Native People of Oregon and the genocide they suffered. I feel that Jews who suffered persecution and genocide in Nazi Germany; Czarist Russia and the Spanish Inquisition during the 15th to the 18th centuries, ought to unite with the Native People of Oregon as well as the rest of the Great Turtle Island in having the latter people’s land back. Furthermore, Italian Americans ought to do the same thing in following Marlon Brando who did likewise over the issue of Wounded Knee in 1973.
I feel privileged to learn this history and at the same time to hear this horrendous treatment from the grovement this dark history that’s been white washed to keep this away from are history books and schools. I give my deepest apologies for the pain the treatment to all of the true people and nations of the lands
My German ancestors came to Texas in 1844. They were farmers. I hv always had a special place in my heart for the Indians from the East to West coasts. I understand the unimaginable actions from the white man. I am proud of the determination of the Indians and their ancestors. To hear this story up to today is gratifying to know they are still carrying on with their native lives. I would love to visit Oregon for a long stay to get to know them and their strong culture.
I am an American that support the rights of the Native peoples rights and the fair treatment by our over reaching governance upon us all. Living in unity and peace taking care of our resources respecting one another allowing all to be heard their opinions matter I’m the bigger picture of society as a whole. The Native people cultures provide the leadership of the management of the land as a whole, due to their knowledge applied from generation to generation, given the opportunity to teach those none Native people how to respect the land as our religions in our days if tribal period is told we are the Stewart’s of the land, we have forgot this very important fact is its all of our responsibility to take care of and not waste everything on the planet. It is all of societies responsibility to protect each environment and manage properly in this age of technology the values based on love everyone and everything that is the reality we must share equally, granting those bones of the past a voice of strength ro guide and properly lead the preservation of their cultures that is rooted in carrying forward proper land use that equity has to be maintained in its historic and now modern manifestation into societies reality based on facts and truth based in the origins of Love One Another accept each individual as a Severn member of the grander society to be achieved and equal with one another. No one is higher or lower accept through the appointment by the people as leaders with the intent interest of better good of all in pure integrity honorable efforts like all me are free in these freeeoms we all share as Sovern people.
Tomahawk is the language of 🇰🇷Korea. It was an ax used by the Indians, and was erroneously recorded at the time. In fact, the word tomahawk is TO MAK (cut = cut), which means to cut wood in Korean. This is mislabeled as a tomahawk. Dictionary records that the origin of the tomahawk is derived from the North American Indian Algonquin word otomahuk. In fact, “otomahuk” is 🇰🇷 in Korean, meaning a log house made of wood. This is what Koreans call “Oh Domak”. I discovered and restored the etymology of the first human beings, and the etymology of the Korean language and English. We also restored the history of 🇰🇷Korea.
I grew up spending summers on the Colville Res been to Chief Joseph grave hung out with the bears at the garbage dump. My step dad (BLACKFOOT)Was superintendent of the Hopi Navajo and the Souix res at Bamigee one of his biggest problems keeping the white Ranchers cattle off of Indian land (free grazing)he brought back fish in the lakes, turkey’s, deer he graduated from University of Montana with a degree in range management he was a very good administrator of Indian BIA land an etc. His Wilderness Wild Bill. Note read Burning Man Swimming
I have nothing but love and respect for the people of the indigenous tribes. Please know that not all Italians put Columbus on a pedestal. One side note, the story of the Native Tribe person traveling to Italy and claiming it for his people would have been better if he did that in Spain (or at least England).
My question to the descendant’s of the settlers. Do you feel good knowing you have your land stolen from these tribes. These lands are soaked in the blood of the Indians. This land is Indian land. Always will be Indian land. You are squatting on Indian land. Being British my ancestors are equally to blame for what happened to all tribes in a great many countries. I don’t agree with their claim to
I don’t mean to speak contrary to a great presentation, but the assumption that Columbus came to N. America is false. Columbus first landed in what is now Jamaica, naming them en dios. This is a very common misunderstanding of context. You mention Columbus, and pope Alexander, but leave out Boabdil, Queen Isabella, and ‘Treaty of Grenada ‘. This all had to do with the 1492 ‘discovery’ of a land the assumed was ‘Sypanso’. Most refered to the new land as the 3rd Indies, west indies, now the Carribean, named so because of the caribs. Wasbt until 1537 that de soto had his famous battle with Tuscaloosa in what is now Florida, and 1609 when King James sanctioned the Virginia Charter, chartered Jamestown, and published the bible. Please keep the information straight, as thus could hinder the truth of the copper colored aboriginal. Peace
I have learned that my West Virginia public education concerning American history was much more comprehensive than many other public school systems in other states. I learned of prehistoric peoples, Native Americans, and then European migrating peoples. I am appreciative that my orientation of North American history was a balanced experience. I am saddened that so many western states have been so deficient in the history of indigenous peoples before European invasions. It is my belief that this was an intentional disregard of early Native Americans in order to effect the subjugation of Native Americans to “white culture” (for want of a better term). Thankfully, not all public educational systems are so deficient of the histories of early North American indigenous peoples. There is so much more that we all can learn!
May Indian Native America get their civils right back and the Real Tradition, Culture and Relegion event ancient technology of Indian Native America prosperous and Wide-Spread in the entire Land of USA The Indian Native America is beautiful soul, Strong community and Wiser than White washing Or White Supremacy of US. Nature always find itself Way Mark Twain
“even though I’m French Canadian, I’ve been living in Australia for 40 yrs or so,, and it’s the same story here with the aborigines’,, they also got robbed of their land and children and culture,, it breaks my heart to see that our Governments do these these, but what ‘s worse is that most citizens don’t even know what is going on in the background,, except just these few couple of years things are starting to come out to everybody’s shame,, why are our Governments so cold,, but then again,, they did come to rob the land,, and all for the Queens of England or Spain or Europe,,, we are kept in the dark and ignorance for very good reasons,,, May the Natives of the lands forgive us, for as the saying goes,, we knew not what we were doing,, God have mercy, on us all,,
I am European. Also going back to my tribal roots, Pictish tribe, norse, and Irish. Before Christianity. I can’t understand how such a so called good religion could do such horrible things. They did the same to European tribal people too. Burned us at the stake, killed our kids, and murdered our shamans. But then they swear they are good people, and their God is the only one. If that was the case how could something so good leave such a massive trail of destruction? All over the world. I’m practicing my pagan roots, medicinal things too, praying to my God’s and ancestors. We should all go back to our roots.
I am so grateful to have been born and raised here in Oregon…such a beautiful, diverse and unique place on this planet with a history that’s not always pretty but fascinating nonetheless. My family immigrated from Japan in the late 1950’s and unfortunately my Obachan (grandma in Japanese) wanted her children to be looked at as Americans and not be held back by their race so I think that’s why she didn’t teach my mom or her siblings to speak Japanese when they were growing up. A few words or sentences at the most. I wish as a child the assimilation cycle could’ve been broken with me and I could have learned to speak/write in Japanese and communicate in my Obachans native tongue. I wish I knew the importance of passing down our culture then. Damn you colonialist bastards for the attempted eradication of non-European cultures/people/history. So much beauty and knowledge stifled and smeared with the blood of its own people. Native American and Japanese principles seem to align a lot more than at first glance. The respect for elders/family in the community, love of nature and spirituality being directly connected to the bounty of the planet, and robust populations of people making advances in technology/medicine/agriculture/art and music, without help from the outside world. To anybody reading this please don’t let anybody make you feel like your cultural practices/language/customs are wrong or lesser than. The Constitution was written with the blood of the Indians but nowadays we might as well take advantage of our right to freedom of religious expression and spread the culture we come from far and wide for the world to know.
Native Americans have experienced the same thing as the Irish, Jews, Christians and others over 3000 years. Yah has made us to be part of His suffering so that we can know Him more fully. He is coming soon to restore all things. He is eternal. After the Sun, moon, Earth and stars melt away Yah is here with those who love Him and our Savior Y’shuah
I am a California mission Indian gabrielino tribe. Not federally recognized. Everything that was taken from us nothing has been given back to us. Maybe the wrong people were sent up to stand in for us years ago there’s something that we need to do because our ancestors suffered and our parents have died waiting, my grandmother died waiting to see what they would give us for stealing our Los Angeles and Orange County land from us.
Stop showing these whites or $5 dollar Indians or whites that are less than 1% aboriginal claiming to be aboriginal please. It’s sickening!!! Than you show the real darker skinned almost black mid-west aboriginals (in historical photos) after showing us a white guy supposedly Indian yet looks like David Beckham smh!!!! Yeah the guy with the red necklace.
I’m sorry I’m a black female descendant from slaves and listen to this documentary I’m sitting here crying…. It’s very upsetting to me and it’s breaking my heart. because my great grandmother told me about what happened to native American Indians before I was born. I’m ashamed and so disgusted that people can be treated so cruelly. It’s hurting me to the core of my heart and I can’t watch this documentary anymore I’ll have to wait when I think I can deal with it.
I am so sorry for what the whites have done to the first nations people. With my brief experience with the huppa, yurok, karuk and quinault people while researching Oma I found myself overwhelmed with guilt. Not just for what my ansesters did to them, but for the oppression that continues today. I pray for the respect and consideration from our government that they so justly deserve.
As a non-Native American, more importantly—just as a human being–one of the things that my conscience pricks me the most about is keeping my word. The last thing I ever want to do is betray anyone’s trust in me. And I have found over the years, the people in my life who have been the most trusting, the most willing to give the benefit of the doubt, overlook mistakes and not hold a grudge, have been Native Americans. And I say that as a credit to them as a people, its not a character flaw at all. The only reason anyone would see it as such would be to make a point that they are easy to take advantage of. But I know I would feel INCREDIBLY bad if it were even perceived that I betrayed any of them. They believed in me, and I don’t want to let them down
GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT TO TEACH OUR KIDS TO COME AND INDIANS OR INDIGENOUS TRIBES CAME FROM ALASKA AND TO ALASKA FROM YAKUTZ. OF SYBERIA WHO ARE ORIGINAL TURKS FROM 12000 years ago !!!!! From Alaskan they move trhough out to america and South America it’s why many words in Indian langues are some Turkic words!!!!!!!correct your facts !!!!
The native American Indian tribes and civilizations were the first reservation / POW’s in this republic. Bcus of federal governments created and installed by fork tongue white men, now we are all POW’s great POW camp the USA!!!! My prayer is for all native American Indian peoples and tribes I pray Wakang Tanka = Great Spirit= Yahweh = Creator of life = God bless each and everyone of you, now and in generations to come . Health and prosperity to you all. One day all the wrongs done to you will be made right by Wakang Tanka, he will not forget but will remember all the injustices done to you and your peoples. Those perpetrating those gross injustices on you will pay! Amen! I am Angel With Tatoos. White man, Lakota heart. Mitakuape !
Can we finally stop violating the ancestors and genealogy and saying “Indian”… especially now that we know better? That’s honoring the oppressor’s mentality over the oppressed here. It was a cheap way of making us seem ‘foriegn’ …America is not from here, and this is not India. Notice how they don’t even say for themselves The United States of India? 😂🤣 C’mon my people…
How did other tribes feel about that being YOUR land, who did you take the land from? you know you werent the first there, just because you were told stories.. were did you migrate from?, If your indian you migrated from Siberia, and became Clovis… Who did you push out or exterminate? This is HUMAN expansion.. Not just white man expansion… In early history, how many were persecuted? what if the Roman Legions or Atilla the Hun had been on this continent? you WOULDN’T exist… You got the bad deal, your far from the first or last…… I would say “get over it” but that seems to cliche’…..
I’m confused as to why they act surprised when a stronger power conquered them.. Other tribes conquered other tribes too..North America, Central, and South America.. It’s been the same since the beginning of time, in every part of earth.. Just because in our time of living, it’s different, but you can’t judge history in the soft and kinder world of today
I’m American of Irish ancestry. I lived in Ireland for 6 years and learned a lot about my heritage I lived there during The Troubles for a year. We moved to the US and returned 7 years later during the Celtic Tiger economic boom. My great Grandparents emigrated to the US in 1895. They spoke Gaelic, but sadly, my parents and I do not. My children speak some Gaelic (They are dual citizens) I see a lot of similarity between First Nations and the Irish. Similar history. It’s fascinating that two very different peoples can share these similarities.
And this is what our school system never ever discussed on when it was about History. Let alone discuss all the atrocities they committed against the women and children of these tribes. As I grew older with my own experiences it all began to form a pattern. You see…i myself being in school would have re-ocurring circumstances where the teacher would refuse to help. So what did this bring as a outcome?? Discriminated….un-educated….and a house of ignorance that was created by the system for me to dwell in. With time I eventually became aware of my surrounding forces and to my surprise…..I wasn’t in the car of success or meant to have only went so far. So then with the years that have gone by….ive done my homework and unfortunately have had to relocate my feelings when it comes to the United States😒 Everything these present laws tell you is illegal was everyday practice back in those day’s!!! I can keep going and going but I’m feeling that it’s not necessary. We all know what happened in the Americas 😞😠 when the Europeans arrived!!! They brought misery, sickness, death, ….and worst of all a giant eraser to make everything dissapear about the North American Natives💯👋👍🏼👌!!!! Sorry for the long expression on this bro😁 shows how this topic sits on the top of my heart when it comes to the all the lies I’ve been told!!!! Thanks and much respect💯👍🏼👌
Loved this program – well done and in balance – of the ugly that the Native peoples have had to deal with from the USA corrupt government. And yet their Spirit is Alive and Well … and look at the turn around they have done in spite of everything being taken from them. Courageous, Heartfelt, and filled with integrity. I pray you keep separated from the USA Government and stay independent with your beautiful culture. May all be Blessed
Our government should be ashamed of their self for doing the Native the way they did..Taking everything from them..Native were here before anyone..I have all respect for Native people..I was always told that I was part Cherokee..But I don’t have any way of finding out because everyone on my dad’s side is passed away..
All around the world, the white man has really wounded the human race. At the same time, the white man has changed the world for the better. Those of us in other skins now, might have been that white man. We need to find deep within us the will to forgive these horrible atrocities and embrace the Human Race. That day, when all shades, shapes, sizes, and cultures of people would honor the same divine in each of them is coming. I’ll live to see that day.
I was thought in school to dislike the Indians. The great europeans. What a crock of crap. I’m ashamed of what was taught to me. I had a rough time in school. To much controversy. I’m Cajun from Nova Scotia. They ran us out as well. Living in Louisiana most of my life. I knew then that government is nothing more than evil bureaucrats. I met a few Indians and love there culture. Now our so called government wants all of us in poverty. I wish we could have learned what the Indians had to offer.
I love the Indians I’m part Indian myself but a very small part, I think the Indian should be always included in all decisions about our country about our land and it’s resources but their not,why is this? they were the first to be here in this land we call america. this was all Indian land back then before the white man came and stole their land from them. we should listen to the Indian more, for they lived here for thousands of years before we showed up. it’s just common sense to treat the land as the Indian did, they never abused the land for it was their source for food and water.
A sad state of affairs but with some good coming out of it, it happened in most Countries over time. In Britain for example, the Barons stole land from small tribes, the Kings stole land and being stronger than the Barons, became the Government, a collection of Baron Landowners headed by a Royal family. With time passing by, these European kings sent out armies to invade other lands, . Spain Holland Germany,Britain, and others, all spread out across the Globe, in search of bounty. It may have caused millions of deaths, but it did bring over time education, modernisation and other good things. So you are not on your own in the US, the working classes in Britain have been used for cannon fodder, to enable these land grabs many many times.
As a child, I was told my ancestors were Cherokia. They lived in Oklahoma. I have seen pictures of great-grandparent and they look very native. My grandparents were almost ashamed of being native and rarely spoke of it. It was considered a lower class of people and treated horribly. I’m in my 70s and would love to share my heritage with my grandchildren. Does anybody know the term Cherokia ? Thank you !
It’s not too late for the U.S. government to give back land and property to the natives. How hypocritical of the U.S. government to worship their god but mistreat native people just because they are a minority. Native people are the original owners of the land. U.S. government also needed to throw away their current history book and teach history correctly to the children in school such as showing this type of article is the first step.
nothing wrong with holding onto your culture as immigrants of all nations do. But if anyone really cares about Native peoples they should be helping the tribes in the Amazon. Those languages are being forgotten, those peoples homes are being mowed down for lumber and they are still living as their ancestors. They could sure use some help from literate tribes who can deal with the laws of land on their behalf
We Indians are always with Native Americans. We were lucky enough to get independence from colonizers i.e., Europeans. But it was not the case with indigenous people of North, Central and South America. They were butchered, they were converted into Christians, their population was decreased deliberately so that Europeans can become a majority. As and when they became majority indigenous people disappeared and were pushed into poverty, drugs so that they never become aware about their culture and rights. It’s time for them to take the issue to the UN. It’s very important for Native Americans to increase their population rapidly and make every native aware about their history, only then world is going to listen to them. Natives need to protest massively throughout America for their civil rights. Even the prime leader, i.e., President in USA and Canada should a native American.
For ten thousand years Indians have existed on the North American continent. They had plenty of time to band together with other tribes and develop weapons. They also highly valued their worth as warriors. Then within around two hundred years the white man came and wiped the floor with them. It turns out they weren’t as good of warriors as they thought. Then they cry because the winners don’t honor treaties (I wonder how their ancestors would feel about cry baby tribes). Maybe the Indians should read about the history of mankind around the world. The vanquished not only don’t get treaties, most of the time they are eliminated.
It would make me very sad to have had indigenous lost. I was born as who I am when I came to the planet. Not indoctrinated by religion, but if I had to chose one to describe me, it would be Native. Either my last life or previous, the strongest DNA cellular memory is that traditions of N. A. Something in My soul is The People. My kids are grown, and I can follow my souls wants. So I am. I am learning to Remember .. living much off the land last 3 years.
Expat from U.S., perusal from Costa Rica.🏖 Prior to my relocation, I lived in Oklahoma and Arizona. My heart was saddened to see the living conditions, and 4th world status of Indigenous Americans on reservations! Unfortunately, this is similar to conditions Indigenous Indios of Costa Rica, Brazil and throughout Central and South America are also facing!
This just breaks my heart. I want to learn all I can, though, about my people. I feel bad, but I know this made us resilient. Strangely, I feel a connection to the Plains Indians, even tho I’m a coastal native. I see the native population growing again, and indigenous peoples getting some of their lands back…&& guess what, we speak English now so no more taking advantage of us. lol
Mr. Means is a very intelligent, informed, and truthful man. Thank you for doing this article info wars and Thank you Mr. Means for trying to educate the American people and trying to help your/our people ( my grandmother was Cherokee Indian). I learned many things from her and and my daddy and I miss them greatly. They made me into a strong survivor with many of the old ways from their ancestors (Cherokee parents) building structures, living, eating, beliefs, and gathering of wild food ( foraging) and hunting, trapping & fishing. That education is and has been priceless. I was blessed God made me her granddaughter and my father’s child. Very wise, humble, strong, respectful, generous, and loving people.
we had no running water and parrafin lamps an outside toilet consisting of small brick building which housed a bucket with a wooden seat with a hole in the middle . The bucket was emptied into the river next to our home daily . Mum cooked all food on a big black type iron fireplace and we got fuel from the forest across the river and found hens eggs that were running free from the nearest farm so we never went hungry then . as a young child I loved the freedom of living next to river and woodland but eventually we moved into a council house in next village where we had running water, hot if you could afford coal which my Mum struggled to buy coal every week she even went on bus gave her name and address as no money and we were given bags of food from the government welfare for the whole family of 7 as dad had gone off again leaving mum to cope. I hated the new house but we eventually moved from scotland to England to a town which I hated .I was 18 and married with a child then but my brothers three of ended up as Engineers and travelled the world. My sisters and myself did not travel but brought our own children up and worked I ended up in local government and another sister went to university so Mum might have had a rough time but she remarried a lovely man and we all turned out to be model citizens. I miss this village in a place called Mid calder, Mid Lothian in Scotland to this day and I am 79 now. . Bonnie Scotland I miss you so much.
Not only do I love all creations on Earth. I believe I was a native American and a past life thus I empathically feel the pain. Thank you for showing this though in case somebody doesn’t realize how cruel white men have been and women and to other sacred vessels. I can only hope to forgive myself for any past lives that I have help do negative acts and pray there is forgiveness in the hearts of the native Americans that are here here today. And I pray they have power in their souls and reignite their sacred beliefs! 🙏🏼♥️
Not all suffered to the same degree. Those tribes who own casinos are wealthy. In one tribe, when a child is born, an acct. is set up where 20k/mo is given to them and paid out in one lump sum on their 18th birthday. Therafter, they get an annual income for life. Most turn to drink, drugs, and crime. They repair or maintain nothing. They buy new and when it breaks they buy another but won’t maintain their property and the broken stuff becomes piles of junk. When the house gets full, they move. It seems insane to have the means to do so much, but chose to do nothing of value with their life.
This is history; man has been driven to conquer and command other lands and people since Adam and Eve. Our country has progressivley evolved quite rapidly compared to any and all countries around the globe. Atrocities were inflicted by indigenous people as well; on other tribes and also on whites. We have grown past this; may that continue. I so admire the tribal determination to preserve their culture for it is the essence of the strength of the group as well as each individual. We need to give our children a deeper understanding of this history. I hope we find agreeable ways to raise to enable them to raise their standard of living on multiple aspects while being respectful of their culture.
Most of these people don’t look like the Indians in the pictures only a few. One must realize to love God and love people, so that the whole truth can be no longer hidden. I am not African, or American, I am Seminole, hmm TSqaw. Shoshone some call it a tribe, I grew up knowing it was a Great Nations of tribes. Thank you for the article, I do hope to see more.
I’m Irish and Roma and the way the colonialists used ‘Manifest Destiny’ on the indigenous people of America is exactly the treatment my ancestors got from other Europeans. I am also Autistic and they are still using a thought pattern very similar to put my people down now. The ‘Other’ is never welcome.
I just hope that all these other nations that are coming into our lands will finally pull together with the First Nations and realize that we only want to be equals with everybody we do not need you to think that you’re better or richer than any one of us because that’s not how First Nations people are we love and share everything so the only way that you can be here is will give you 50% of whatever that we have as long as you don’t become an undesirable in our communities
Peoplea have been invading other peoples’ lands since time immemorial: the Romans,Mongols (who NA Indians are likely descendants of), Huns, Zulus, Aztecs, Cherokee, Inuit, etc. All invaded other people’s lands…The US govt built a base in Guam and didn’t compensate my relatives…sh*t happens, time to move on and not dwell on the past and use it as an excuse for today’s problems. 90-95 percent of all natives in north and south America died of old world diseases. It’s called survival of the fittest. It happens in nature too
WHY NATIVE PEOPLE ARE BEING SINGLED OUT? Dev04: @Al Yared Nesher, I’m just not sure why natives are not as incorporated into American culture as their white and black counterparts. Arnulfo: You mean more set for marginalization… for destruction… Arnulfo: @Dev04, I have my guess. The songs and chantings of native peoples — that sound vibrations produce healing frequencies… so also the calls or sound of the dolphins. And you will be shocked to discover that there has been work to kill both the natives and the dolphins! Why? My take: They interfere / hinder the goal of the Satanist cabal to reach the sum total of all dissonant frequencies to, pls take note, 1 billion gigahertz. And why? Answer: it is this frequency by which the planet will explode! The HAARP wifi towers are powerful frequency generators. They said, Oh we closed down already the HAARP facility in Alaska. O sure, but more than a million ones have been established all over the planet to replace it! Seldom can you hear sounds from these towers, but nevertheless, they generate negative frequencies more than any device and very fast to achieve the 1 billion GH goal. We need positive music including or most esp the chantings of the natives and the calls of the dolphns for they are designed to neutralize the negative sounds and negative frequencies that are fast building up!
It’s very disgusting, cowardly and barbaric.. 😭❤️ it makes sense why they still own 98% of the state of Nevada. Because they knew and understood the medals and different Earth elements inside the mountains and rock faces in that specific state.. they knew the native Americans understood how to open up portals and use different universal divine spiritual energy and they came here and ravaged and raped killed and murdered and stole the land that is still righteously theirs.. The Romans,(the majority Catholic priests), along with the ancient Egyptians and Sumerians… Mostly all diabolical demons and devils👿👿👹👹… It’s so simple 🎼🎶🎵🥁❤️ Unconditional love and compassion for oneself and another is the key 😇🙏🙌✨🌙🪐🌐🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️♑ I love you all humanity and stay strong and protect our children from such despicable evil 💯😇 May Divine Grace, Father/ Mother God. The One And Only True Creator!!$& Our Beautiful Precious Planet we ALL call HOME(Mother Gaia).. Forgive and Bless us All with unconditional love, strength and protection to see past ourselves and guide us through the faith and Truth we hold for you Creator I love you and I love you humanity sorry this message is so long you’re awesome if you made it the whole way LOL 🎼🎶❤️❤️♑♑♑♑
This sounds familiar to clearing the Highlands of Scotland, today are our lands are full of jumped up squatters. many destroying the land, and the natural animals that lived there, the lands pass to people with no love and connection, the meaning of the names of everything. Today people using our land for second homes, these are lands they could not conquer or did not originally want. Many sent as slave indentured to other countries. Having seen how this worked these arrogant people moved in and claimed ownership!! We were a test case for what was to come elsewhere including AMERICA!! For a caring people we understand, but some of us bribed into this robbery!!!
I’m so happy that the injustices has been partly restored for the Indian people, seem as though everybody has been compensated to some degree, but we as black.people continually get disrespected and left out of the equation, trust me when I say it, God is perusal, and there is a price that you Caucasians are going to pay for the mistreatment that have been imposed upon his chosen people as if we’re not worthy !!!
Umm… Not sure how you didn’t get the memo… But back when Europeans landed in the Carribean and then later explored what is now known as America…. But they actually thought they were in India. So…this Is a little awkward…but if you look at a globe,, you’ll see that the country we now refer to as India is NOT adjacent or even CLOSE to the United States. Maybe I’m crazy wrong.. but…. THAT’S why they called the indigenous people/Native Americans “Indians” It’s a little weird to discuss because I’m in my 30s and learned this as a kid. However, later in life.. I found that calling Native Americans, “Indians” is entirely idiotic and retarded. But I bet you have a lot of GREAT content to share. (facetious comment) Maybe you agree with our school-house history books Maybe you completely disagree. Either way…………Indians are native to India Not the United States So… Stop spreading misinformation, that’s been misinformation….for centuries…that everyone knows is misinformation… Jesus….
As a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints in the early years we went through a lot of the same persecution being pushed from New York all the way to Utah In 1848 which was not even a state until Sometime in the 1890s. We worked very well with the Shoshone and the southern Paiute as well as most the time with the Utes in the area. The federal government also sent two armies into Utah to babysit us Mormons but ultimately ended up almost wiping out the shoshone nation. I know my church tried to help and we had our differences even settings aside land for the natives that live there many of them became members of our church and still are. As I get older and wiser I’m beginning to see it’s not the people of America that’s the problem it’s the government of America. We were never able to talk face-to-face just pushed around by militia and United States government. I think if there would’ve been no government and we were able to talk face-to-face with our neighbors this would’ve been a pretty darn good country. It grieves me sorely. I do promise you though hold on with everything you have the created is coming and we will live in peace. PS it would not surprise me to see you someday the church give the native lands back to the people I’m almost sure that’s the way it would be if the United States government was not involved. Two different cultures clashed and the government would not let us work it out between ourselves.
Sad story as to what was done to the Indians. If anyone deserves reparations, it’s the Indian Nations. Appear to be wonderful people who were great stewards of their lands.you take care of the lands and waters and they will take care of you. I always thought the movie, Avatar, represented what life would be like if the indigenous people were in control of their Environment. Sad but real part of American History.
The Native Indians had many Tribes, many Languages many Cultural styles, different landscapes, different geographies and hence different food habits… just like my India, but Each and Every Tribe worshipped and celebrated Nature. Everything came from Mother Earth. No ” my One book is everything” bullshit
Gambling is a blight upon society, it’s disappointing that this has been seen as the tribes socio-economic solution. It’s not right to make money off people losing money through gambling. A true blessing upon a society will not add sorrow to others. “The blessing of the LORD enriches, and He adds no sorrow to it.” (Proverbs 10:22) If the tribes really want to be blessed they need to seek the Lord-he will bless them and add no curses with it! “The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.” Proverbs 3:33 I pray that God will deliver and save all the tribes out of all curses in Jesus holy name amen.
This is missing the part that explains that those western explorers like Lewis and Clark were Pamonkey Algonquins of VA (Who were now blood of Rome through the English explorers) that had been the 1st people of America from 18’000 years, and that these natives were like the westerns encroaching on their native lands. Algonquins do not have Asian ancestors.
Holy cow my dad’s grandpa’s first name was Brainard I live in Washington State. My great grandpa was born in Meckler, Clay County, South Dakota. But then he moved to Montana where he married my great-grandmother and they moved to Orroville, Okanogan County, Washington where they had my grandpa and his eight siblings and are buried there. Out of my father’s entire line of ancestors Brainard is the only name I’ve never been able to find an origin for. I was in 9th grade in Madras, Oregon, and had to ride a bus to school. I lived on the highway about 2 miles north of town. And the bus could only pick me up heading out of town on its way to Warm Spings. Because I lived literally 50 ft back from highway 26, the school district would not allow the bus to stop on the opposite side of the highway on the way back into town to pick me up. So for an entire year I rode the entire bus route from Madras out to Warm Springs and back into the high school at Madras everyday. Then about 3 years later I took a job working at the school district as an assistant riding that same bus route for a year helping train a new driver.
As a non-US citicen, I just cannot understand how is it possible that a documentary like this and all these horrible history about genocide on Native American tribes, does not drive current US people extremley mad, ashamed and even deppressed when thinking about it?. May be people just does’t care at all and/or don’t even think about it? Honestly, I cannot understand it.
ThisWas Amazing How The Native We’re Moved Like . Cattle Through Out The History of This Conntry .Bottom line is The Government of This Country An From The Earliest Contact Being From colonial times 1600 and 17th & 18 &19 centuries. Just Pushing The Native People off What Land They Had .. My mother was Ourouquois,as her mother was . The more I learn about how the American Indians were treated, the more unsettling I get ! One of the speakers mentioned the US Government wanted the Indians to learn English, take up Christianity, and not have more than one wife . The thing that got me, was the US didn’t want the Indians owning slaves !? The US Government themselves had slaves, and they were African decent . The Indians have lost a lot from the US Government, land, hunting rights, the right to speak their own language . I myself would like to learn my Native tongue . To my brothers and sisters of Indigenous tribes, you speak the truth on how our Ancestors were really treated . I send my blessings to you all of our great Indian traditions, and may you all have a long and prosperous life . Thank You for telling your stories .
If not already done, these Amerindian tribes could sue the U.S. Gov’t for taking action under color of law; for, government forces acted on an unratified treaty as if it were already ratified – which is akin to police breaking in & searching one’s house, seizing one’s possessions, & removing one’s person with only an unsigned warrant as their “legal authority” to do so (that is, the unsigned warrant is evidence that they had no legal authority to do so). In these unratified treaty cases one should determine who all was involved: the U.S. president as C.I.C. for sure as he’s ultimately responsible; the U.S. Army certainly; & perhaps even U.S. Congress had a hand in such (especially if one can show that the U.S. Senate had a pattern of deliberately not ratifying treaties knowing that the president &/or military commanders would still take action as if the treaties had been ratified). And, don’t forget that for each branch of U.S. Gov’t there are 2 branches of the U.S. Gov’t responsible to oversee/check its actions – & take any appropriate action within their respective jurisdiction. Now, it appears that the U.S. Army didn’t build bridges – requiring old, young, & inbetween to have to traverse dangerous waters on horseback or afoot (reckless endangerment of all, plus both elderly & child abuse/endangerment). And why weren’t bridges built by the Army Corps of Engineers along the planned route(s) prior to starting the relocation(s)? 🤔 One could develop cases for many counts of both murder & attempted murder – in addition to unlawful seizure(s) & kidnapping(s).
The supreme court’s decision on Oklahoma vs Castro-Huerta just set back native sovereignty by 200 years. It gives the government power to enter Native reservations and arrest “non-native” peoples on rez land. Before that, if a crime was committed on rez-land, the tribal council would have handled it unless the TRIBE decided the FEDs need to get involved. Not anymore. The government is breaking treaties TODAY. If you read information on Wikipedia and Encyclopedia Britannica today, it speaks on the IRA (Indian Reorganization Act) enacted by Roosevelt, accompanied by the Howard Wheeler act like it was a good thing for Native Americans. It wasn’t. We prospered DESPITE the IRA, which undermined our sovereignty, reestablishing our society around gambling. See, we people of color are allowed to have our faces associated with vices like gambling, tobacco, violence, etc…Ask any Black man living in America. They know all too well.
It would be an interesting thought experiment to see what the American continent would be like today if the Chinese would have followed through with their plans to send ships across the Pacific. I read many years ago that they had ships built and ready that were more than capable of making the journey at about the same time period that the Europeans were crossing the Atlantic. It was only the last minute change in Emperor that scrapped it. Invasion was inevitable, but how would the dynamics between the British, French, Spanish and the Chinese struggling for dominance have played out? A clash of the titans. The indigenous people would have been caught in the crosshairs from all sides at once and it could possibly have been even more brutal.
I being a French Canadian with some Indian blood in my family from the east side,, Quebec,, would like to say that concerning so many treaties that the Governments keeps breaking with our native people is very shocking,, but I would like to say that I being white,, and now 72 yrs old,,, the Government makes their own people to pay taxes whether we like it or not,,, we are born into a slavery system even though people would not see it that way because we all need to work to earn our bread and pay rent or mortgage or whatever,, so this reminds me of the times of the Egyptians when the ‘slaves workers were forced to work or suffer the consequences one way or another,, even being on the welfare system is not something to boost about because the Government gives you barely enough to live on,, white people are forced to work to pay taxes,,, or quite often lose our jobs,,, I’m sorry to say that at least you people still have a reservation to live on,, I would encourage you to built up your community somehow, with water supply to grow your food and perhaps small farming,,, or fishing,, help each other survive,, and stay off the damn booze which is truly destroying your spirit,, I lived on the reservation for about a year on and off or lived in the woods with my indian boyfriend as well at the time,, I’m not saying anything to hurt you,, I want you people to kick that chip off your shoulders and don’t let the white Government dictates how you should survive,,, you survived before in the past without the whites, start getting creative and get into survival mode,, I wish I could live out in the bush but I’m getting to old for that,, but you guys can do this, and support each other,, mother nature is calling you back to where you belong,, and God Almighty is also telling His children to return to the mountains or wilderness to survive the great holocaust that will hit mankind like a ton of bricks,,keep away from the cities,,, please get out of the cities before white people attack you out of frustration more than anything else,, live in peace with everybody as that is what our heavenly Father wants us to do,,, pray for guidance always,, and do not be afraid,,, move on,,,prepare for what is coming,, and move forward as the Virgin Mother Mary would say,,, God is perusal and guiding you if you let him,,please consider,, as I am your friend and sister in blood and land,, and in the spirit,, I’ve heard that my secret nickname is,, ‘silent echo”.
And they assumed you were just dumb savages😂! I dont want to appear like I enjoy vengefull behavior, “ego”. It can do no Good. Harmony. Amongest all the breathing living creations. Thats whats required. Appreciation of one anothers existence owing only unto our Mother and Creator who gave us breath and will to move forward.
