How To Fix Loose Legs On A Dining Room Chair?

This video provides a quick and easy method to fix a broken leg on a dining room chair. It shows how to tighten up loose joints without requiring advanced carpentry skills. The process involves cleaning off old glue from the ends of the legs or stretchers and applying new glue to both the tenon (end) and the crack.

To fix a broken leg, use good quality glue and a wedge in the tenon joint. If no bracing is used, loose legs can be mended by forcing glue into the joints, but this may work loose again. For a more permanent repair, carefully disassemble and re-glue the loose glue joints.

Driver screws are used to hold loose joints, and toothpicks and wood glue are used to stick them into the hole and mark where they reach the end. Cut the toothpicks and apply some glue. A common solution is to dismantle the joint to clean the joint of degraded glue and allow a conservator to check for the soundness of the timber.

The chair legs are usually dowels inside holes in the legs, and an expanding glue like Gorilla Glue can be used to tighten them up. This guide provides a simple and cost-effective solution for fixing wobbly wooden chair legs using metal L-brackets.

  • Im not sure if you are still answering here but…the long round metal cylinder attached in a hole….inside the chair leg has detached and is stuck to the inside of the chair. Its the cylinder that the nail is supposed to screw into to attached the leg to the chair. What Adhesive do i use in order to glue the cylinder back to the leg?! Thanks in Advance?!
