To create a slate walkway, follow these steps: plan out the design, prepare the ground for concrete, and use a hand-held 6-in Carbide Stone Fluted Rubbing Bricks. First, plan out the design and prepare the ground for concrete by clearing the patio or path area. Use a 220 grit wet and dry paper tightly around the white polishing block to draw a pad along the edge.
Using a ruler and pencil, draw a line across the slate 90° to the edge of the slab. Ensure to use an angle grinder or circular saw with a diamond-cutting tool. Install the tiles over the cement using sand.
The brush-on method involves using a paintbrush or roller to coat the surface evenly, working it into all nooks and crannies of the slate. This process involves using diamond abrasives to remove thin layers of slate, gradually reducing pore depth and achieving a smoother surface. Cut joints across the walkway in strategic locations, making the cuts at least an inch deep in a 4″ slab. Deeper cuts are better, but don’t cut the edges or corner tiles.
When installing the tiles, calculate the room length starting from the first row of slate tiles. This will help you create a smoother surface and prevent the slate from shifting.

I have a slate walkway that is coming very loose. The slate is laid on top of concrete. Can I just glue the slate to the concrete and then use polymeric sand to fill in the gaps after? How would you go about re attaching the slate to the concrete? I live in VA, where it normally doesn’t get any colder than 0 F or hotter than 100 F.
