To stretch leather shoes, heat or cold methods can be used, but for non-leather shoes, a zip-close bag filled with water can be used. Test the bag to ensure it doesn’t leak and fill it about a quarter way with water. Place the shoes in the freezer and leave them there until the water freezes. Once frozen, remove and let thaw. If the shoes don’t fit after one round, try this technique a second time.

For wet shoes, like canvas and water shoes, wet them with water and freeze in the freezer. Remove and let thaw. If the shoes don’t fit after one round, try this technique a second time.

For shoes that can get wet, stuff them with newspapers or socks. The pressure and shape of the tightly bundled paper will slowly and gently stretch out the shoes. If crumpled up newspaper isn’t available, try overstuffing socks into the shoes to achieve the same effect. In a few days, the shoes should feel noticeably roomier.

  • I’ve decided to sew quite a few pairs of these with the vinyl liner in the middle to protect my feet from getting too wet & two or three layers of towel on the bottom to wear inside the house as foot mops. We have two acres & quite a few pets with the luxury of mainly working from home. We are in & out all day, which is crazy on the tile floors. I have an auto vacuum I let loose but this would be a great way to walk around & spot mop. I often find decent used towels to recycle fairly cheap & I can just throw them in the wash. I might make some for the other people in the house. Most of us are used to removing our shoes before we come in. Awesome, thank you!
