I think my favorite kitchen was the one from the guy who was a cook for several years. It’s nice to have everything within reach without walking across the kitchen. And it’s perfect for one person to work in the kitchen. Which I normally don’t like having anyone hovering around me while I’m fixing a meal.
Oh, I didn’t realize you were settled in Oregon these days! I’m in Portland, so it got my attention. Do you have a article that describes how you found a legal spot to park, and in which county? In your searches, did you find any particular Oregon (or Washington) counties that had few restrictions on THOWs, or on the occupancy of trailers? I’m hoping to buy some land, or a rundown house with land, that could also host a THOW and maybe a couple trailers, or a yurt. I just haven’t found any guides on where that could be legally done. I don’t want to pepper you with questions, but if you have a source to point to, for more info, that’d be so helpful! Thanks in advance! P.S. This article, compiling segments of different design features in tinies, is a great idea. I think these separate topics could garner a lot of views, and help others with their space planning. Thumbs up!
I love that you’ve combined intro-videos. This helps tremendously in cutting down on my article time. Yes, you have a new subscriber! I saw a few great ideas for our 1969 Hi-Lo camper, aka. Home away from Home, aka. backup home! I’m thrilled to incorporate more space into what they didn’t think about way back then, and especially in the the kitchen! I have stainless steel rods for a draining area. Now I need a new counter top that can withstand that extra moisture. The old top is worn. I’ve found a perfect little table for the bathroom which holds 3 rolls of toilet paper on the roller and holds an additional 12 rolls in the lower basket with a magazine or two, which leaves the table top for a purse or wallet and a cellphone. I’ve got plans for a lower shelving unit that won’t allow anything to shift or bounce out while we’re moving. I have 20 inches wide, 8 inches depth and 53 inches high to work with. Yippee, every inch counts in a small space. The Hi-Lo restricts what you can put on the upper wall, so I’m using polyester hanging pockets with the shower curtain that separates the bathroom from the kitchen, so I can hang my jewelry on one side and dish washing supplies on the other side of the shower curtain. I’ve got solar exhaust fans for the bathroom and kitchen that have a USB cable, in which I think is a priority in this 8 x 16 foot tiny home. I’ve also bought us solar charged batteries that can be charged with electricity, and they have flashlights if we need them. The camper came with battery/electric lighting.

I have never missed an episode on your website. If you were to ask me which Tiny Home was my favorite, I really couldn’t give you an answer. I love them all. The creativity, the innovation, and the over-all vibe…just always makes me happy. Thank you for bringing these to us. And no, I couldn’t decide which kitchen I liked better either.
I absolutely love this, I didn’t really have an interest in actually living in a tiny house until I came across a picture online of a kitchen that I fell head over heels for instantaneously and discovered that it was part of a tiny house and from that moment on I was hooked! It’s a farmhouse style with a huge kitchen and big windows and a traditional kitchen table and as someone who makes homemade pasta and loves to cook/eat it’s perfect for me so on impulse I bought the plans when they were on sale for $100 and I’ve been saving up to build it ever since! Mine will differ slightly as my kitchen table will double as a sewing table with the bench seating having storage for all of my quilting fabric and I’ll have extensions that lock into the side of the table to extend the size and fit my machine flush with the table to make things easier when quilting. Perfect for all of my needs!
Loved this article on tiny house kitchens! Even though I taught Nutrition courses for many years, I really don’t enjoy cooking. Being a vegetarian, I mainly eat fruits and vegetables. But I mostly enjoy seeing the various storage spaces in the kitchens. I do have plates, dishes, and glasses, which I treasure that take up 99% of my kitchen.
I don’t live in a proper tiny house. I do live in a 100 year old small let me say it again small bungalow. The kitchen in my home is quite small but by using some tiny house methods, I have managed to make it into a paradise and a place I love thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas about kitchens.
THANK YOU… THAT WAS… a super helpful and enjoyable article. Consider a article covering all the different options for sleeping arrangements. And a article of best bathrooms. Also, a lot if tiny homes are structured like a tunnel.. With things on both inside walls right and left…. It would be great to do a article featuring all the design aspects that deviate from the tunnel design, and enhance the feeling of openness and width
What a wonderful tour of some of my favorite tiny house kitchens. From perusal this chanel, I’ve learned about toe kick drawers, pull out pantries, using drawers for dishes and pots and pans, and the importance of mental space. I don’t have a tiny house yet but I am going to use many of these ideas to re-do the kitchen in my 100 year old Craftsman-style house. (Very bad remodel done by preveious owners.) Thanks for bringing us these wonderful compilation articles. 💖
My favorite line in this article is “Be prepared to thrown convention out the window to make sure that it works for you”. I love that! I’m saving up to have my tiny house built one day. In the meantime I’m thinking of the design so it can make my life easier and more efficient. Though it’s uncommon, I love the idea of having my wardrobe right next to the bathroom. It makes the most sense to me. I’ve seen a few tiny houses do that and if done right to protect against mold, I think it’s definitely worth.
there is a couple that you interviewed that you left out, I don’t remember their names but he is a police officer/farmer, she designed their home. The key takeaway from her design was that everything below the countertop (bench top) should be draws that pull out to you. Everything above the countertop should be cabinets that you reach into. One thing I hate to see is refrigerators and stoves right up against each other, too much heat on one side of a wall you’re trying to keep cold on the other. A 2″ counter raise is better for tall people, but a 4″ tall toe kick draw that can be used as a step makes the counter 2″ better for a short person.
We have a tiny 30 sq.m. country house and we have a very small sink. I’d love to have a bigger one, but I have a dishwasher. If you have one, then you can throw all your dirty dishes into the dishwasher and live with a tiny sink. Maybe it is not 100% comfortable, but it can be a compromise when you have no space on the kitchen top to have a bigger sink, but you have some space below and can place a dishwasher.
Gosh, Bryce and Rasa, that was a lovely re-visit of so many fabulous and inspiring kitchens – AND gardens. I have been a fan of this website since the beginning, and I don’t think I have ever missed a article, but I have forgotten some of these and it makes me want to go back and watch some of the old ones. I DO have to say that I am an exception to your statement, Bryce, that nobody likes to wash dishes. I certainly do! I find it very satisfying to wash dishes and clean up a kitchen (for which reason I seem to be a welcome party guest – though most people don’t seem to believe me)! I really enjoy these articles where you showcase great ideas!
Love all your articles! lMy question is what is the long term outcome for these lovely tiny homes? Do they stand the test of time, or do things need more regular repairs and replacements? Would love to see a article on how to make a tiny home last for years to come….or what the life span of them might be?

I love this episode! It would be super cool if you could link to the full episodes for each one featured here like you did in the one featuring storage ideas. It’s a great way to curate a full episode binge watch.. I’ve watched every episode on this website and would like to rewatch the homes featured here. Especially the one with a glimpse of the bed off the kitchen.
I loved this competition, it couldn’t have come at a better time since I’m currently designing my van. A much smaller space but the principles are the same. I absolutely love the very infrequent updates from you and Risa. Would love to hear what you are up to, or planning for the future. Any travel plans or changes to your tiny house? I’ve been perusal from your first year on YouTube.
I am 63 1/2, just 5 feet tall, with very bad arthritis and other health issues. So for me to design a great space for me would be a mainfloor bedroom with the bathroom right beside it. I would like a loft with stairs only that double as drawers, but a sunny loft to keep craft/art supplies. Maybe a small stuffed chair & small tv for days l’d like to work there. Downstairs a wee sitting area (with another tv!) where l can also paint & craft. Definitely a permanent table area because l like a nice place to write. A huge double kitchen sink (dishes AND crafts!) happen here! And a small washer & dryer for winter. Anywhere near a lake, river, even a pond, is my dream location!! And l would love love LOVE to have a dog to share my little nest with!!❤🐶 ☘️🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦🕊
Great work! At 6:37 while discussing storage under raised floors, you’re showing a clip of a guy pulling out drawers under a raised floor. Which article/show is THIS particular design from?? BTW, it’d be great in composite articles like this to provide links to the articles you’re using. Perhaps I’m just missing them here?!? I’d prefer to watch several of the articles you included clips from, I’m just not sure how to go about finding them!

Thanks Bryce and Rasa! 😀
This is great, love the info and will incorporate some of these aspects shown into my tiny home when I finally have the funds. One thing I would LOVE to see highlighted is the focus of the tiny home to be the living room! For me, cooking is not the main focus, but the living area is. Would LOVE to see some examples of a large, ample living room with tv, fireplace, mantles, or other things that people have come up with to make a rockin’ living room.
Impressed with the variety of kitchen styles. I like Jess’s with the tall slide out pantry, stove & sink on one side & bench & seating on the other. We designed a 900 high benchtop but think I would also incorporate a lower bench as well. I believe in universal design for all ages & abilities so would make the width for a wheelchair or wheelie walker with an exit at the end gallley style so there could be a ramp instead of seps & deck. The outdoor cooking is a great idea but requires space & love th3 vege garden. Downsizing things, have found you really don’t need a lot of things, remembering as a teenager, I only moved with two station wagons of possessions including two single mattresses & a bolster & a couple of boxes of records for music.
Bryce – We have been perusal your tiny house website for years and saw so many houses in this kitchen article that we’ve never found/watched on articles! We would LOVE to watch the full episodes of the houses with the kitchens you actually featured and talked about. Any chance you could add the links to those articles in this episode description?
That was a very interesting episode and fantastic you went through so many of your previous articles. A few particularly interesting ones there. The minimalist home in Melbourne, The homes with the under floor floor and kick panel storage, particularly using incorporating the kick panel into the bottom draw. I hope Rasa is actually comfortable with the bench height in the tiny house, Thanks for the great compilation Bryce, Rasa and Sarah.
I really like the idea of using hotplates. Depending on how much you cook (e.g., if you are a single person household), a four burner stove may not be the best use of your space. Hotplates give you the flexibility, when needed. I also love the cutout chopping boards over the sink – supersmart use of space and materials.
This article is jam-packed with inspiration! Just lovely! In my experience, a well-designed custom kitchen creates a more joyful cooking experience. I’ve lived in about 20 different homes and one of my favorite kitchens to cook in was in a 200 sf tiny home. There was something about it that felt so much more functional than a traditional kitchen. If I ever get to design my dream kitchen, it will be a little bigger than that one was, but I’ll definitely be bringing in some of the same elements. And definitely some of the element in these kitchens. perusal these articles makes me dream of being a tiny house designer. Thanks for a great article!
I have designed more tiny homes than I can count. Every time I watch an episode of LBTH, I think of something better than the one before. I particularly like this article of concentrating on some of the best kitchens. Additional articles that highlight other rooms. Even one on the best ideas for storage, or accommodating the family pet(s).
Kitchens are always my favorite part of tiny home articles. You did an absolutely awesome job with this article I think it maybe one of your very best articles.! My second favorite part would have to be the lighting, natural lighting from lots of windows and Skylights as well as the unique and creative ways people have used artificial light. It is amazing how light really sets the entire tone of a home.
I’m obsessed with the tiny houses since i’m perusal your website.Although i live in a 125sq.f house the kitchen is tiny and it blows my mind when i see those efficient designed kichens with wonderful lay outs.❤Thank you for the wonderful images and ideas.I live in Greece,we have a huge house ptoblem and young people still live in parenting house and this is a great idea for starting your life
I completely agree regarding storage space. Not only in a kitchen, but for clothing or hobby gear, kids stuff etc. I’ve seen too many tinies that look like a bomb blew up in them after being lived in for 6 months. With no realistic storage for the above mentioned things, those things then just become clutter all over the house. And for me that’s what would give me constant anxiety!
