This video demonstrates how to reverse a lever door handle and install a new one. The program button on the interior side of the lock can be adjusted by removing the peg, which covers the “A” and “B” or “B” and “C” doors. For Schlage brand lever handles, changing the door handle is easy.
The top handle should be installed the correct way up, as it doesn’t dig into your hand when pushed. The “Reversible Lever” function allows for installation on either a left-hand or right-hand configured door. Interior privacy and passage levers, as well as keyed levers, come with a pin tool.
To replace an old indoor doorknob, follow these steps:
- Remove the old lever handle from the door. This allows you to check if the new handle will line up with the existing holes.
- Set the lock correctly by setting the lock button 45 degrees between the “lock” and “unlock” positions.
- Take the hinge pin out of the middle hinge on the door to separate it into its two parts, the door side and the jamb side.
- Turn the lock counter clockwise (CCW) to make it locked by rotating in the clockwise (CW) direction.
- Slide the tabs right in the hole and screw the screws back in.
- Turn the handle over to see the mechanism.
- Remove the circlip using circlip pliers and remove the metal retainer.
- Switch the levers inside for outside and press them back together.
In summary, replacing a door handle requires a Phillips head screwdriver and a new indoor doorknob set.
