Kitsch and bad taste at its highest level. It feels like until yesterday this guy was making shows about how to properly milk a cow and today he landed on the Upper East Side and was forced to talk about interior design. I’m not rich or privileged & have never experienced high-end luxury but I know what I don’t like – the entire interior of this townhouse. Only the front doors were tasteful to me. The moment the hosts went inside, it just felt like a brothel. But then again they did mention this townhouse wanted to emulate “Parisienne” vibes & it does feel very Moulin Rouge to me.
This is very ornate and may not suit everyone’s tastes. It does resemble the kind of decor that would’ve been popular among French royalty in the Marie Antoinette era. Although it is opulently styled, it would be too dark and formal for me, but I appreciate the effort and attention to detail that Ivana put into it. Most important of all, it made her happy. It is beautiful in its own way.
I think the decor was “IN” during her time. Remember she’s also Czech so it has European influences. And she’s gone now. So i think her family decided not to change anything bec it will bring and hold memories for them. Sometimes we just need to think for a moment before we comment ya know. No hate, just understanding.

I love the pink onyx, the Venetian mirror, one of which I also own, the French fireplaces, and my favorite colors are pink, red and gold. My husband and I went to look for our dream house. It was hard to find an all one level house in the size and finishings we wanted. Rich people have dropped living rooms and step downs to outside spaces. I got my seed money to riches from a settlement from hobbled legs in a car wreck so I need NO step downs ideally. We got close but I guess to have none I’ll have to build one day. I live in a hilly area too so it can be a challenge to get an all-flat lot. I may have to raze an old house in a good area to build new. To me living rich is not supposed to be a fall risk. I liked her, and I couldn’t believe that simple stairs killed her.
The sad thing is the new owners will “rip everything out” in an effort to show what great taste they have. a’la HGTV, which is not a good idea. It doesn’t have to be that way. I can make this home into a breathtaking one by removing decorative items and refinishing the existing interior architecture alone. There is no need to rip out the cabinetry and millwork. There is no question about it. It is about refinishing, painting, laquering, and simplifying the look of some of the finishes.
Not one functional kitchen in the whole house!!! It is going to take a king’s ransom to redecorate this entire house from top to bottom. You gotta strip the walls, floors, and ceilings. Plus add a million dollar chef’s kitchen along with a dumb waiter and a basement level kitchen for patio entertainment. This place has to be taken down to the studs. Idky that real estate agent retained all of that knowledge about Ivana’s decor and taste. Nobody is going to live there with red fabric walls and outdated use of space. I am going to address the elephant in the room. Ivana had an elevator, but used the stairs at 73 years old. WHY??? She died from falling down the stairs!!! Its dull, like an old ladies house. A house that doesn’t have high ceilings (at least 13ft) should never be arranged and decorated in baroque, neo gothic, second empire, Versailles etc. it just doesn’t work, looks cluttered and not splendorous, those themes only work in truly palatial houses. Also too much red, 80s mobster vibes.
It looks more like a hotel or historic place of visit then a house I can see why people criticize it but honestly I’ve seen way worse home decor and it’s not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. The painted walls are beautiful. red is thirty years old decor.. lightened they would be very different. The small butlers kitchen is how I like the kitchen, out of sight, out of mind, lol! Skylight chandelier clever, entry has dignity, that studio in the attic, with more light, would be brilliant as a painting studio. Piano would have its own concert room.. could be a cosy home then!
Spectacular, people forget this was in 30 yrs ago.I’m sure the beige, neutral, minimalistic, boring style which is favoured by many at the moment, would also look ridiculous in 20 yrs. Opulent and very European old style, not sure I can live there, but still beautiful. It was Ivana’s dream, a remarkable woman.
